Urban Dignity (Dignidade Urbana)
Explain your project in details:
I would like to develop a series of nuclei of resilient urban solutions, this project would allow community spaces of the "know-how, make and communicate" of the region, together with a group of professionals trained to work in the socio-environmental area, focusing their actions on integrating the communities to the legal city and in the sustainable development of local quality of life. The aim of the centers is to jointly develop urban solutions for their neighborhoods and cities, through urban planning, training and qualification of local leaderships, production and re-qualification of common and green spaces, teaching of civil rights and duties, and awareness of all. I think of interdisciplinary teams composed of architects and urban planners, social workers, sociologists, civil engineers, pedagogues, geographers and other categories of which knowledge and practice may prove necessary, these professionals may be from within or outside the region of the core. In addition to traditional academic technical knowledge, the core will include local knowledge, "masters of knowledge", residents who are references in the local community for their knowledge and community participation, as well as the political leaders of the region, companies interested in socio-environmental development and all possible instances of the country's public powers. Through the integrated action of the core of solutions with the community, thinking, accompanying and visiting the implemented actions, plus respect for the participatory process of the residents and the exchange of knowledge that can be perpetuated in this relationship between people, aims to conquer the sensation belonging and the affection of the residents of the region, providing each project with a solution resilient to the time, presenting crafts and new possibilities for the population. It is through these routes that we aim to reach resilient urban solutions, empowering communities and transforming the development of quality of life into culture.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
The project aims to transform development of quality of life into culture. The result of the union of the members of the community and professional experts can generate the formation of community leaderships; employ, as many professionals as possible in the region, to think, execute and participate in local subprojects; promote professional training and presentation of new jobs to local residents; to bring the members of the community closer to the interdisciplinary knowledge and form of work; improvement in the health, safety and aesthetics of housing by technical assistance in construction; improvement of public spaces resulting from participatory interventions; preservation and improvement of the environment; contribution to the broad access to drinking water, sewage treatment, solid waste management service, electricity distribution and public transport, using the support of the public administration and the concessionaires of these respective services. In this way, it seeks to maintain the capital allocated to the subprojects in the same communities where it is invested, in addition to valuing and monetizing the work of professionals who choose to work and specialize in the socio-environmental area. In line with the participatory and empowering process, specific working groups will be formed to compile the results of these actions. The groups will be responsible for establishing, comparing and widely disseminating data on the number of completed subprojects, mortality rate, unemployment rate, family income, number of public equipment and services, always focused on the regions where the project is present. The growth in the number of active participants, spontaneous publicity, investors and community leaders formed in the nuclei of action are concrete goals of success. It is necessary to go beyond the activation of communities, it is essential to help communities obtain autonomy in the production of their projects and to claim their universal rights.
Sustainability and future plans
A multiplicity of investments from the private sector, governments, sub-governments, non-governmental organizations, contests and socio-environmental funds is necessary, along with this, a self-financing fund directed to the economic self sufficiency of the project must be achieved. The work done by the effective workers of this institution must be duly paid in order to guarantee the valorization and dignity of those who dedicate their time and effort to this noble type of practice. Further elaborating this process, the project aims to create a large database of community members and other people interested in working in the general workstations of this project, as well as in the implanted subprojects. An example to be mentioned is the construction industry: Builders and designers (preferably residents of the region who are served by this project) would be mapped and as the demand for reforms and constructions exist, those registered workers who demonstrate interest and participate in the activities of the project will be activated and duly remunerated for their activities. In this way we guarantee housing improvements and local income generation. It is worth mentioning that the above example is part of my current experience with a private company that aims to offer constructive credit assisted technical assistance in construction for people with low purchasing power, this company seeks the sustainability of its business by practicing this strategy. The project I write has the initial objective of starting to serve the city of Vitória, capital of the state of Espírito Santo, precisely because its territory is not extensive. When it reaches success, the project can expand throughout the Metropolitan Region of Vitória and thus gradually reach all Latin American territory, always adapting the regionalities and difficulties without losing the high quality standard that the communities need, listening and incorporating their own solutions.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
During my five years of urban architecture graduation, I had the opportunity to participate voluntarily in Pipa, the architecture and urbanism model office of my higher education institution, and I worked there for a period of four years. Pipa operates in the city of Vitória, more precisely in the community where the educational institution is located, in order to provide services to families who can not afford the costs of an architect and urban planner. I had the opportunity to work for the low income population of the place, together with community leaders, and always with the guidance of the teachers of the architecture and urbanism course. I participated in workshops, as well as volunteer social programs in the city of Vitória, capital of the state of Espírito Santo, implemented by the Ateliê de Ideias Association, an NGO focused on helping the sustainable development of needy communities, there I approached the practice of joinery , in a more in-depth dialogue with local leaders, as well as to experience the low-income communities of this metropolitan region. I am now 27 years old and I am one of the founders of Palete Parque, a group of architects and urban planners motivated by the desire to deal with social inequality and its consequences, with the aim of promoting harmony, universal social inclusion and development of environmental awareness in urban spaces, making use of the best practices possible under the conditions available to our company. Seeking improvement, I chose to participate in the entrepreneurship education program conceived by the United Nations (UNDP, UNCTAD) and Brazilian institutions, Empretec. Aiming at my role in the conventional architecture market, I have also become one of the partners in the Roda Arquitetura office, which focuses on the development of architectural design, technical consulting in construction and electronic modeling.
