Kukasoko (Burundi's online marketplace)
Explain your project in details:
KUKASOKO is an online marketplace in Burundi that aims at bridging the gap between buyers and sellers. We prioritise small businesses and young entrepreneurs that have products/services to offer. We publish products for free for sellers to allow them to access
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
With over 12,200 companies created in the last 5 years, Burundi is a fast growing market. Unfortunately, the online market is not being exploited. Around 54% of Burundians use mobile phones and 800,000 access internet and the number is still growing. Kukasoko was launched with the aim to bridge the gap between buyers and sellers and expose young small business owners to a larger online market. In a period of 8 months, the website has reached over 18,500 views, published more than 600 products that have a value of more than $1.6 million and have reached more than 500 downloads on google play store. Our Facebook platform has reached more than 5200 followers with more than 280,000 posts reaches. Our pilot launch proved how potentially big the market is.
Sustainability and future plans
We project to implement a storage facility and delivery service which will be one of our main income sources. Our other projected source of income is advertisement. We also plan to launch international delivery services to promote Burundian small businesses by exposing them to international customers that are interested in local products.
