Yankee Travel and Tours
Explain your project in details:
To improve the communities we live in. Employ the youth and get them involved in tourism.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
To see smiles on the faces of the youth makes us happy and Seeing the communities lives improved through agritourism, art tourism, food travel and we see how they understand the service industry through trainings and how our culture and way of life through sustainable tourism can help grow our societies and educate them on how to conserve the environment that surrounds us. Best part is involving Agriculture and Tourism - Farmers , community members benefit from the produce through tourism. People have become more interested in how their food is produced. They want to meet farmers and processors and talk with them about what goes into food production. For many people who visit farms, especially children, the visit marks the first time they see the source of their food, be it a dairy cow, an ear of corn growing in a field, or an apple they can pick right off a tree. Farmers and ranchers use this interest to develop traffic at their farm or ranch, and interest in the quality of their products, as well as awareness of their products.
Sustainability and future plans
The business is owner run and managed who is much involved in the development of community based tourism. The finances were funds from owner's savings. We would like to get more funding to help through the operations and trainings. We would like to see growth not only in Namibia but in other parts of Africa. To introduce Agritourism in other parts of Africa through partnerships. We would like to see many farming tours available such as grain, vegetable, fruit, dairy, and livestock. The farms to display the lifestyles and work of active farmers, farming processes, farm products, and the opportunities and positive aspects of a life in the countryside. Tourists can learn how food is made from the field to the final product whilst also engaging in harvesting if possible. The pairing of arts and culture with tourism can lead to economic development by bringing visitors to the area, while also contributing to community wellbeing by invigorating local areas through creative practice. Its about focusing on the visitor experience, which also of course, is extremely relevant to those who live here too. Another common theme for cultural trails in the region is food and art. We will draw together a culinary itinerary to make it easier for visitors to explore the region. In the end, it goes back to the experience of the visitor. For cafe owners their main business is serving food and drink, but they also recognize that people sitting in the cafe enjoy additional levels to the experience and visual arts or music are the obvious ways of increasing that experience.
