Musicales Maria Manuela
Explain your project in details:
When I was 12 years old I entered a music school to learn violin. There they lent instruments to students who did not have, but they had no enough instruments for all the 200 students who studied there. Searching a solution to that problematic I decided to found María Manuela, an alternative for the cultural education, social inclusion and ecology. We make musical instruments from recycled materials, caring the planet to the beat of music. With María Manuela I have attended several entrepreneurship fairs, like Expocamello, Pereira Recicla, Picnic Festival and Dosquebradas Emprendedora. I also have a TEDxPereira Talk, which name is "Violines Con Alma". It is about my entrepreneurship, its philosophy and its beginnings.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
As of right now, what I have done is to help people be more aware about the needs of children that come form low income communities and the opportunities that could be taken if they could have Access to music. My role has been to bring awareness to people that can do something about it. My goal is to be able to start a program in a guetto here in Colombia where I can start teaching music to these children and teach them how to build their own instruments out of recycled materials they can find easily in their homes or neighbourhoods.
Sustainability and future plans
Musicales Maria Manuela is an alternative for the cultural education, social inclusion and ecology. We make musical instruments from recycled materials, taking care of the planet to the beat of the music. We sell acoustic and electroacoustic violins through social networks like Instagram and Facebook, we participate in several trade fairs in our cities and give conferences to expand our philosophy and search allies. We have been able to finance Musicales Maria Manuela through 3 different sources, the first one is seed money received from an NGO that has accompanied us since the Project started, the other source is a contest where we won an amount of seed money that helped us buy tools for the production of the instruments and the third source is my family. We want to start a program with children of low income communities really soon and teach them not only music, but also how they can pursuit their goals through entrepreneurship.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I was born on October 25, 2001, in Pereira, Colombia. At my 5 years old I started writing poems and stories about the environmental consciousness. When I was 6 years old I started playing sweet flute at the school, realizing how beatiful is that world is and wishing to venture further into it. At my 8 years I learned to play piano online. I started to participate in story contests, wining the second and first places at my 10 and 11 years old, respectively.
