Explain your project in details:
Navigaia Journeys creates spaces for holistic travel education. It encourages to travel inwardly and outwardly, to go confidently one's own life path and to explore the unknown. We work to ensure that individual travel experiences are accessible to people with diverse backgrounds and that they are not a privilege for a particular segment of the population. We encourage people to travel culturally sensitive, sustainable, responsibly, consciously, and mindfully so that travel can unleash its potential for a positive impact on our society. In addition, we provide an orientation and reflexion framework for people around the topic of conscious travelling. We put our vision into action through holistic training, workshops, coachings, events, and online/offline inspiration. Navigaia Journeys offers a comprehensive and systemic approach to individual travel combined with personal development, international understanding and holistic learning. Our different programs and activities are: Navigaia Education: In our training Learning through travelling high school students with diverse obstacles (socio-economical) get encouraged to travel, gain intercultural competencies and become more confident to follow their own path after graduation. Navigaia Travel: We offer workshops and trainings for people before and after their travel journey to support travellers to find the courage to travel and their deep travel purpose, to create awareness for responsible and conscious travelling, to gain intercultural competencies and to create a frame for reflection and personal development. A travel education academy is planned. Navigaia Inspiration: We offer events about accessible and responsible travelling and also Daily Journeys events to inspire people to travel within their daily life without having to leave their own place. Moreover, our inspiration compass on our website offers hand-picked inspirations for conscious, accessible and meaningful travelling.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
1,5 years the founder, Veronika, started her journey with Navigaia Journeys by herself. Already within the first months, people joined her vision. Since the start of Navigaia Journeys the following achievements, among others, can be mentioned: The school project Learning through travelling has been run already in cooperation with two schools and one foundation in Germany, having reached 45 young people. A one-year university course from Psychology students of the University in Hamburg evaluated one of the training. Our international Youth Exchange EnCourage got funded by Erasmus+ and will reach 50 people from 9 different European countries. The exchange takes place in September 2019 and will be evaluated by a pre-and post-testing. We've already reached around 130 people through our workshops, trainings, events and talks in Berlin and Hamburg with our topics around travel education. Around 10 people from different countries contribute to the vision of Navigaia Journeys in different areas - website, workshops, international youth exchange, strategy, etc. The founder Veronika got selected to become a member of the Changemaker X Change community of Ashoka. Our Facebook page counts nearly 500 people who receive regular information on conscious and responsible travelling. Measures to evaluate success: We've conducted surveys after our trainings and workshops. As mentioned above, Master Psychology students evaluated one of our school trainings. A pre- and post testing as well as qualitative interviews will evaluate the youth exchange.
Sustainability and future plans
Our business model bases on a mix of different revenue streams. Currently, Navigaia Journeys operates under the roof of the NGO Ideen hoch drei e.V.. By the end of 2019, we intend to found our own gUG. Our current revenue streams: Schools and institutions in the field of education pay us for conducting the trainings learning through travelling. For those schools that cant afford the whole prize for the trainings, weve received money from foundations. Individual participants of our workshops, talks, events, etc. pay a participation fee, usually on donation base. Our youth exchange is funded by Erasmus+. Our intended revenue streams: Robin Hood Principle: Cooperation with companies will allow us to cross-finance parts of our educational programs - offering micro journeys, daily journeys, etc. for their employees. We intend to find foundations that support in financing us the costs for one-two employees for the year 2020. We want to offer our workshops, trainings, talks in the field of travel - conscious travel preparation and reflection for after the travel journey - to clients such as educational institutions, gap year companies: work & travel, etc.; international voluntary organizations, tourism organizations, companies in the fields of sabbaticals, universities, etc.. On a regular base, we will also offer a Travel Education Academy and single workshops for individual people with a scale prizing system that asks more money from those who can afford and less money from those who can't to create a fair paying system. We also intend to use the possibilities of Erasmus+ for financing different international training courses. We plan to cooperate with sustainable travel brands in the field of sponsoring.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I am Veronika and I was born in 1988 in Berlin. I learnt the most in those moments of my life, where I didnt sit in any class room, but when I did something practical, when I experienced life and when I travelled. This is why I want to create holistic and experiential learning experiences. I was searching for my own path in life for quite some time until I realized that I want to be part in creating the way we learn through experiences. I love travelling, personal development, intercultural understanding and non-formal education. My passions led me to create Navigaia Journeys. My motivation for it is that I believe that travelling can have a big potential for the personal development of the travellers and also for a positive impact in our society. However, travelling can also be harming and destructive. I wrote my Master thesis about the potential backpacking could have for intercultural understanding. I worked in the field of education and have been interested in recreating education for a long time. I believe, that a holistic travel education is needed nowadays, as more and more people are travelling, flights are getting cheaper, etc.. Travel education for me consists of different parts: personal development of the traveller; sustainability; cultural sensitivity; intercultural understanding; making travelling fairer. My formal experiences & qualifications: Bachelor in Public Management Master in Intercultural Communication further qualification in Design Thinking Co-founder of the educational NGO Weitblick Berlin e.V. working experiences in different NGO 2 years school experiences in Germany as a Teach First Fellow several living abroad and travelling experiences the founding of the educational initiative Navigaia Journeys working at the Helga Breuninger Foundation in the field of teacher trainings further qualification in Experiential Pedagogy process work in nature
