The main objectives of the Institute Besouro for Social Development are to promote public and social activities with relevance for society. That way, it uses entrepreneurship as a cultural change tool, while facing the environment adversities, to contribute to education, culture, social assistance, sports and job creation. The institute uses the knowledge and potentialities of each and every person involved with its projects to make actions such as research and scientific content. The institution listens to people from the communities to build activities that are designed to that social and economic context - it happens because we know that every locality has its own dynamic and necessities. The institute acts in many different fronts (all of them aimed to social changing) but one of the strongest is composed by the free entrepreneurship classes. The methodology developed for those courses was born on shantytowns, with the base of the pyramid know how and its peculiar eye for innovation. With that said, its important to say that the classes have an innovative approach because they can ignite the entrepreneur desire inside people who didnt and knew they had it, and more: the course teach effective tools to make those business become real, while maintaining and improving them. To make all that happen, the Institute Besouro for Social Development bonds with with national and international entities and governments, creating public and private partnerships to reach as many base of the pyramid people as possible.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
The institute is present in eleven countries around the world and it has proven that the entrepreneurship classes are effective. After the course, the business go through a period of incubation during three months that the institute evaluate the impact of the business in the entrepreneur lives and help them to keep the activity healthy. Through that monitoring, the following data has been collected: + than 4 thousand people have already learned the By Necessity method; + 220 cities were attended; + than 3.750 business opened; + 70% conversion rate: people that became actual entrepreneurs; 100% of the businesses are generating income; 400% increase in income after 90 days of businesses opening; + than 15 thousand people indirectly impacted; + than 60 million BRL accumulated income by entrepreneurs in one year.
Sustainability and future plans
Through an eleven step class, the student learns to create a business plan using their own empirical knowledge, which is converted into a low cost business. During those classes, they learn -the following concepts: networking, the entrepreneur profile, innovation and creativity, strategic business plan, communication and marketing, market and client research, cash flow, payback,profit and working capital, overcoming difficulties and the building of an action plan. Two main projects involving the Institute Besouro for Social Development are due the following months: one of them is the result of a partnership with brazilian government and the other is done with the guinean government. The first one, happening in Brazil, is the biggest entrepreneurship program in the country and its objective is to capacitate a hundred thousand people in all the twenty-seven national states - most of those people live on the base of the pyramid. Its called Brasil + Empreendedor (Brazil + Entrepreneur) and its designed to cover over ten social groups, as: LGBTQ, elderly people, indigenous, inmates, black people, woman, refugees, rural youth, truck drivers. The second program, scheduled to start in 2020, was constructed for the guinean people and its name is Hub do Futuro (Futures Hub). It mission is to qualify and incubate a hundred local business and capacitate 1.800 locals through the By Necessity method. Besides that, the hub project also includes two annual international events, two foruns with social institutions, support for public policies creation and researches about entrepreneurship, work and income.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I was born in the suburb of Porto Alegre, one of the biggest cities in Brazil, and since Ive been working since I was little. My motivation is to change peoples lives and minds, showing them that it is possible to find something that moves us and use this to build anything, including a profitable business. I'm master in Strategic Marketing for Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales, in Argentina. I'm also a professor at Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universidad Nacional de Luján and Ive published three books about entrepreneurship in vulnerable communities. I'm experienced in private, public and third sector organizations and Ive got global and strategic vision of the market. Wide openness and objectivity for decision making and problem solving. I dream, I plan, I make it happen.
