IbuildNigeria Sociapreneurship Academy
Explain your project in details:
All too often in education, we are preparing children for whats next instead of whats now. Kids do not have to wait until they are adults to change the world around them, to make a big impact, to accomplish something great. They already have that power, today. In exploring how we can cultivate creativity, empathy, problem solving, and civic engagement skills in students to tackle whats now, IbuildNigeria Entrepreneurship Academy engage young adults in experiential entrepreneurial learning sessions which helps them develop critical thinking in discovering who they are (uncovering their talents and gifts), identify problems in their community that they can solve using their talents, consider strategies for addressing the problem, and create solutions of their own design. In general our learning empowers students to grow into agents of change in their classrooms and communities.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Based on an evaluation of our pilot group of 20 scholars, 10 of the scholars went on to take youth leadership roles in their local church. Furthermore, 13 of our scholars were nominated and eventually became school perfects in their respective schools. Our scholars as a cohort were able to carry out various community projects such as having events for children with disabilities, contributing money and goods to take to orphanages and teaching elementary school children after school to help them pass their national examination to middle school. We have trained 220 young people Ewekoto LG and our goal is to reach over 17,000 young people in the next 5 years
Sustainability and future plans
Our operations are currently funded by individual donors and foundations. The sustainability of our model will be based on raising funds through profits from our scholars social enterprise.
