Explain your idea in details:
Wi Yon FarmSalone will offer customers with decent presentation of our ingredients onion paste, Onion Powder and essential oil, My main objectives includes offering consumers who are more press about time while cooking various sauce recipes with fresh bulbs to produce the onion cooking paste under hygiene conditions and packaged with labeled to be sold at affordable cost to the middle class and low income earners. The price of my product will be affordable to our target customers. In addition, the activities involved in this onion production process will help our customers to save household cost as the shelf life is twelve months and also rich in protein, iron, less calories and magnesium for infants and children. Our innovative approach has to do with the branding and packaging process which my business will be using paper and plastic sachets with attractive label design on it making it very appealing to potential customers which includes individual working in the corporate world and restaurants. Our competitors are market women who are selling onions at retail and wholesale prices, There was no hygiene and organic onion cooking paste available in the market before my intervention. Because onions are perishable goods that cannot be kept for a very long time but through my innovative approach also I will offer consumers with a cooking paste that can be kept for a long time without losing it's normal flavor by adding some ingredients which will give my cooking paste a good aromatic flavor to satisfy the taste of all our customers.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
WiYon FarmSalone will offer targets customers which includes hotels, restaurants, supermarket, local cookery shops, Canteens and markets place within my area of establishment. In addition, the business aims to make a 65% investment on returns in two years time. The business hopes to gain 70% of market share in three years times. And the business will covered 50% of the country in 10 years time. And will attract one thousand new customers in five years time. My onion cooking paste will be different from my competitors because it will solve the problem of consumers who are more concern about how to preserve onions with large quantity without losing it normal flavor, 60% is expected to be restaurants and supermarkets. Our suppliers who are improvished male and female farmers will have a constant source of income to take care of their families on a monthly basis. On a wider basis farmers will be expanded and increased jobs will be created for our youths in the Bombali District. As we increased our production farms will be expanded to provide more opportunities for local farmers about twenty to thirty women and their families will benefit from my project. Export opportunities will be provided and even greater opportunity for onion paste will be established.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
My business will be working with 50 local farmers whom will be my primary suppliers, and two bags of onion seeds will be given out to each one of them for planting as a start for the financial year. Meanwhile, after harvesting i will collect three and half bags of onions from each which will sum up to 175 bags of onions under a legal agreement between both parties. Out of that three and half bags that will be collected from the farmers; i will be using 150 bags for production and support another set of local farmers with the 75bags to increase the supply flow of onions for my production process. Onions are seasonal products that is my business will collaborate with different farmers just to have a constant flow of supply for the production process, In order to avoid delay in production and also to sustain the smooth running of the business. Out of the 150 bags that will be received from the 50 farmers in total will be used for the production process to generate more funds for the business. In five to ten years my business will acquire five acres land mainly for planting of onions and will employ 250 local farmers from my area of establishment and the production level will increased from 150 bags to 600bags per month for the production of onions paste and this will also increase my monthly sales turnover.
Mohamed Koroma is an Agripreneur born in Sierra Leone, 23 years old with two years of experience in Agripreneurship currently working at WiYon FarmSalone a youth led agribusiness which focuses on the cultivation of onions and bent in value addition of onions into cooking paste, powder and essential oil. Mohamed Koroma holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Makeni, Sierra Leone. My motivation is bent upon value addition towards Agricultural products especially onions, which will be used by potential customers who are pressed about time in preparing delicious food recipes using onions as a ingredient. However, 70% of the onions consumed in Sierra Leone is imported from other countries and the government normally spends about $24 million dollars per year according to Minister of Agriculture press release. This urge my aspirations to start a project on cultivation on onions and value addition of Onions in order to cut down the amount of money government normally spent only on onions per year. However, I will used my entrepreneurship skills been learnt from Young African Leadership Initiative Program (YALI) to help improve the Agro-processing system within my community and the whole country at large.
