Beep Your Doc

Explain your idea in details:
This came from the idea of a pager. The pagers will be in the hands of community healthcare workers who can signal the hospitals around when need be. Therefore, it should simply be able to sound an alarm but can distinguish the different areas where this idea will be implemented. For this to work, there needs to be a system formulated to connect different pagers to a central system which will dispatch the calls based on the area to the respective hospitals. The gadgets also need to be designed and created to be able to have the prototype to be able to pitch to the hospitals and the community health workers. On the ground, the community workers need to be located and each one of them informed and trained on how the pager will work. Although, it will only be given to the people in the village, depending on the size, that the residents go to, or call on, in case of an emergency. The hospitals need to be checked to see whether they can handle an emergency, by having ambulances. The hospital staff should also be trained on how to handle emergencies and how to answer the calls of the community health workers. In cases where the public hospitals do not have ambulances, the County Government in conjunction with the Ministry of Health will be involved as to ensure that the basic facility is available. If after discussions it does not work, public-private partnerships may be the next step but this is the last resort.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The Beep Your Doc will see a decrease in the maternal and child mortality rates due to lack of services and will ensure that the hospitals have the necessary facilities to provide for its patients. I hope to target up to 10 hospitals and health centres at the beginning in Turkana county so as to work per county and reduce the number of officials involved. The locations should be at least a 30minute drive from the hospital. The reason for this is, most communities within that area have easy access to hospitals and it's only until you go further that you realize that there are no medical facilities available. As long as the ambulance is well equipped and know in advance what they are dealing with, they may not have to go back with the patient.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
This is a non-profit solution and the monies got from this venture will be used to train the community health workers and venture into other counties with the same mission. The source of funding will be majorly from charities and organization that will help bring this cause to life. I will be targeting counties with this product which may, in turn, involve the ministry of health. With the product being locally made and assembled, the manufacturing costs will below. The most expensive part may be the configuration of the systems that will connect each pager to the health care providers. The product will be sold to the county to ensure that the venture is sustainable.
I am 22 years of age. Growing up, health has been a number one priority for my family since my brother and father have been on medication for as long as I can remember and therefore I know how important it is to have a hospital nearby. Seeing on television and reading on the situation of healthcare in the northern region of Kenya, I know how much they are lacking. That's why I came up with this. I am very compassionate and caring for everyone. I am the first person in the office to notice when one is sick and make sure I recommend a remedy but always push myself when I am unwell. I am also a leader and in the university, I was elected the vice-chairperson of the acting group at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
