Your profile

My name is Ephraim Essien, I am a serial Nigerian entrepreneur, and I am from South South Nigeria. Currently, I am a young activist, majoring in entrepreneurship, in Africa. Also, I am expecting my major in entrepreneurship in Harvard University and Free University in Berlin soon. As a person who was born frugal, I have been struggling with constant investment throughout my life. This might be a blessing in disguise, I discovered how meaningful life is and what my encouragements are. I felt that frugality isn't just about living, but it's about getting back the opportunity to pursue something we have not done, to make up for our mistakes, and to pass on meaningful things to others.. Our life is an indicator of our world's existence. Therefore, life is so priceless that we need to exterminate all the obstacles that bind us from receiving quality collaboration and economics services. For this reason, my intention is to strengthen the entrepreneurship campus globally, using the 21st century method. By joining the Best Ideas 2020, I believe that I will be able to create awareness and contribute something meaningful to others. With my idea and which gave me a chance to think deeply about what I want to see in the future, and I want to see in myself, as well as future peace between the young Germans and Nigerians.

I welcome you all to the 82 day to 87 Day of our voting and commenting phase

As a budding entrepreneur, I think envision myself asking you much questions than scoring your creative idea via project which I have read and examine and fine it recommendable.

Day 82

By the end of the day, Tom has convinced his friends that it is exciting to paint a fence. But even better, they pay him for allowing them to do the work. Turning work into fun.

CAMPUS MEMBERS DO YOU KNOW you can read brains versus capital for the above quote?

Day 83

Can this little tale be transferred to an entrepreneurial design?

I think so; Tom managed to organize the job of painting a fence in a very special way. With a little imagination and talent for organization. Tom understands that you turn even a punishment into a party.

Day 84

How does Tom Sawyer get his friends to paint the fence?

CAMPUS MEMBERS DO YOU KNOW, by using the motto, Turn work into Fun, which is the answer.

Day 85

CAMPUS MEMBERS DO YOU KNOW According to the text in Brains versus Capital, what should you do to freshen up an old established business model?

Day 86

What can you concretely do to make work fun?

The answer is Develop a systematic process. Read brains versus capital?

Day 87

CAMPUS MEMBERS DO YOU KNOW, start ups with wings is the eight assignment and already part of brains versus capital course and which can help in aspiring us to gain the vital talents and build our mindsets to recognize and develop our ideas and projects collectively in this platform.

Dear campus [email protected], As we are gradually coming to the end of this competition, one important thing I want us to consider is that the organizers of this competition will appreciate if we forge ahead to execute and sustain our ideas with the necessary skills acquired from the trainings, others inputs and from campus articles; and that is whether we emerged as the eventual winners or not. In view of this and in addition to my other previous comments on your idea, I am sharing with you the 5 important Characteristics You Need to Sustain Your Startup as enlisted in the one of the campus articles.

While most entrepreneurs will say that passion is at the very core of sustaining every new business. And although it could not be agree more that passion, motivation and will are one of the most pivotal characteristics for keeping a business alive, beginner entrepreneurs should have additional 5 significant characteristics in order to get a startup company on its feet and sustain it.

Abundant Patience
In the early stages of your business, it is highly unlikely that everyone is going to know what you are doing and be very open and supportive of it. With a little bit of luck your business idea is going to reach fame in no time, however, most of the time, you have to become friends with time that is passing by. Patience is key to sustaining your startup. Take some time to stop and smell the roses. Just because your company is not evolving at the speed of lightening does not mean it is failing.
If you are trying to build a brand that is going to provide solutions to people everyday problems, and you are trying to implement this solution into their lives, you have to accept the fact that it will take some time. Your future fans and clients will probably take a while to embrace your new company, and in order to stand the test of time, you are going to need a lot of patience.

Precise Focus
While it is important to remain focused on your business goals and work on pushing your startup in the front rows of the industry, you should be focused primarily on customers. In other words, become customer obsessed. By all means, do not become so obsessed that you will go about changing your brand and doing whatever it takes to please every single person. Stick to your vision, but keep your followers and clients in mind at all times. How do they feel about your brand? How can your unique vision help their lives?

Persuasive Communication Skills
The truth is that communication can either make or break your business, in several different ways. You may have a supervision, an authentic idea, and a business model that is going to hold up no matter what, but if you are not a good communicator as an entrepreneur and do not know how to portray your company to others nobody is going to want to hear about your startup. You need to be able to practice communication and do it on the regular. Whether it is inside of your company, communicating with your employee or partner, or outside of the company, pitching your ideas to third parties, you are going to have to learn to use words to get into people minds.

Envisioning
Now, you might be thinking, who starts a company without having a vision? Most entrepreneurs have some kind of a vision, but we are talking about the kind that is going to push you through the hardest of times because you can see so far, there is no stopping until you get there. In order to sustain a startup, you need to have a vision, not just for the present or close future, but for the next 20 years. Once you reach your first set milestone, you should not just sit around and wait to see where the road will take you. Your vision should be your guide throughout the entire process, and once you reach each milestone you are going to find it all familiar because you have envisioned it from the very beginning.

Cautious Management
No matter what you start off with, pennies or millions, you should be very careful when it comes to your assets. Startups are a gamble to a certain degree, but great leaders know how to spend and when to invest their money. They do not waste a dime, and they know when they should invest millions when necessary. Get educated when it comes to finances and startups in order to avoid making bad financial decisions that will drive your business to the ground.
We consider these five characteristics predictors of future success. They might not always determine the outcome of your startup because there are various other factors to take into consideration, that might influence the sustainability of your business, and that might not always be in your control. But, these five traits are important to have in order to control the situations and aspects of your business that should not be left up to fate.

Dear friend, I hope you will derive some benefits from this. Also, please do create time and take the campus online trainings as the trainings are there to help campus members understand what it is to be an entrepreneur.

Finally, I have voted and commented on your idea; please consider supporting my idea with your votes and comments @https://www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/26/17094/

Best of luck in your implementation.

I was wondering if i could shape this passion, initiative to objectetively engage in participation of rapid growth entreprises
Just so I wanted in solid fire,

I was wondering if the strange combustion of my idea project/days will bring consumer awareness in consumption and healthy lifestyles,

The tension of the world inside of me,
with a vision of working for a common goal sustainable bartending cart development,

I was wondering if I could stand as tall,
for our new generations from a common ground of sustainable development and consumption incorperated into our youths and communities,

While the tide of the sea rose and fell,
setting a global mentality harmonising nature and society,

If the sky would recede as i went, and the earth would emerge as i come on one mission of sustainable world and ultimate goal of well healthy responsible drinking community
To the door of the morning, locked against the sun.

I was wondering if i could find myself, all that i am in all that i could utter if you vote for [email protected]https://www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/26/18538

My dear [email protected] Germany Devotail Nigeria, Having come a long way in this campus together and eventually gradually getting to the end of the voting and commenting phase of this competition, I strongly believe that having taking the campus online training, read through the articles and taking into consideration inputs from fellow campus members as well as equipping ourselves with the necessary skills and knowledge from this campus, we are ready and perhaps most of us are already pitching our businesses and I think that it will be worthwhile sharing with you this article on how to pitch our businesses for possible investment.
It is much easier to talk to an investor if they understand what your company does. As a founder you will have to pitch your startup countless times. To be effective, your pitch has to be clear and concise.

In this post gotten from one of the articles in the campus, the pitch creation process has been condensed to answering seven questions. If you can answer all seven questions succinctly, you will be well ahead of the curve.

The Seven Questions

1. What do you do
Start with the name of your company and what it does. For example, Social cam is a mobile app that makes it easy to take videos and share them with friends and family. There is no need to set up the problem, you can just get to the point.
Too many people spend too much energy trying to make their idea sound impressive. It is ok to keep it simple. Actually, it is preferable. You want to explain what you do in the simplest language possible. This needs to be predigested. Your elevator pitch should be like baby food.

Your goal when answering this question should not be to have potential investors understand your whole business but rather make them interested enough to ask follow up questions.

2. How big is the market
There are two ways to get market size. If you are entering a pre existing space, like small business banking, you can research it. If you are creating a new product or space you can estimate the number of customers that would want your product and approximate how much you could charge them.

3. What is your progress
What investors will be trying to understand here is how fast you produce work. What is the ratio between what you have done and how long you have been working on it
They want to feel impressed with how much you have done in the period of time you have had to do it. This can apply to a company that is one week old or ten years old.

4. What is your unique insight
This is similar to What problem are you solving, but the bar is higher. What investors really want to understand is what you know about the problem that everyone else does not. This is usually derived from multiple conversations with customers, deep analysis of current products in the space, and often personal experience.

5. What is your business model
There are two types of startups, those that know how they will make money and those that have not figured it out yet. By and large, if you are in the second category you are going to either make money by growing big and turning on advertising or you are going to copy the predominant business model in your space. A small subset of companies in the second category will propose a new business model that makes sense given how your product changes the market.

6. Who is on your team
Potential investors are only interested in a few things, How many founders, Is there a technical cofounder, How long have they known each other, Is everyone working full time, What is the equity split among the founders, hopefully equal or close to equal

7. What do you want
There is no need to dance around the ask. If you want people to invest, ask. If you have a question, ask.
Make it easy for investors to help you. They really want to help you.
Once you have answers to each of the seven questions your challenge is to make the answers as clear as possible.

Conclusion
Investors are much more interested in progress than genius ideas. Most good ideas do not look like good ideas the first time you see them so your ability to show progress in your work and intellect in how you answer these questions are two very positive signals.

Dear Ephraim, I hope this helps in you to peach your business as much as possible and get the necessary funding for your project.
Best wishes in this journey and in your implementation. Stay positive on the competition. It teaches us a lot of things to keep us sailing to the beach.

Furthermore I intend to form an Archeapple protection club. The aim of the club is to give education to the people to always do well and protect the few Archeapple trees that are left. Another reason for the club is to do away with the traditional belief that if you plant a tree and it starts to bear fruit you will die. We have made people to believe that it is not true. It rather helps to prevent global warming and the greenhouse effect in the community. We have also held a discussion with the chief and elders of the village to make by-laws to protect the trees

September 26, 2020 20:13

In addition to this I and my friend have taken upon ourselves to weed around the Archeapple trees to prevent them from the destruction by fire. We also make sure that the fire belt is wide enough to prevent the trees from burning

September 26, 2020 20:13

Another step I took to foster sustainable development was to encourage my friends to also plant some. So far three of my friends by names Herman, Joe and Abigel have also planted two each. Our aim is to make sure that that the future generation will also enjoy the benefits of the Archeapple which we enjoy today

September 26, 2020 20:12

To foster sustainable development of the Archeapple tree, I decided to plant five to replace the two that were destroyed. When I nursed the seedling, two germinated. So I went to my grandmother who advised me to sow them directly. I did that and five of them germinated. I fenced them to prevent them from being destroyed by animals. However three of them have already been destroyed by cattle leaving two which are growing very well

September 26, 2020 20:11

The other problem is pest and other caterpillars that sometimes destroy the leaves. Bush burning is another source of the destruction. I was sad in 2006 August when I got to my village and two out of the four Archeapple trees that were around my house were gone. One was destroyed by wind and the other one due to the construction work in our family house.

They destroy them when they are building houses, constructing of roads, clearing of farmland and cutting them for firewood and gardening. Another major source for its destruction is the weather conditions. Sometimes too much rainfall with heavy wind may destroy these trees.

September 26, 2020 20:09

Despite these economic and social benefit, the Archeapple trees are destroyed daily at an alarming rate. Human activities are the main causes of the disappearance oftheseimportant trees.

September 26, 2020 20:08

Socially the leaves are used to purify the xylophones after funeral rites. In fact most death are laid in stage under Archeapple trees in my village not to talk about the shade that are mostly used by the people on the funeral ground. It normally has a large shade that can contain so many people at a time. Children also use the cover to play Oware which is a local game.

September 26, 2020 20:07

The trees here are sparely planted. They are mostly made up of trees which can withstand drought. The Archeapple tree is one of the common tree found in this area due to its desert like nature. Another good reason why it is common is that it is a domestic plant and most household depend on it for shade.

The Archeapple tree has a lot of economic and social benefits to the people of Sombo. Sombo is a farming community located in the Nadowli District of the upper west region of Ghana. It lives within the savannah grass land vegetation belt

Starting your business is like planting a sapling. First, you have to invest your time and money. Then, you must take care of it while expecting nothing in return. But when your startup blossoms, it makes all the patience and hard work worthwhil

t just needs an easy outlet to do so. Penny-A-Day will give people the option to donate a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, or even a dollar per day over the course of anywhere between a month to a year.

September 19, 2020 16:06

Currently there are about eight thousand homeless people in Seattle; meaning one out of every seventy-five people will not have a bed to sleep in tonight. Seattle has the ability to and drive to eliminate poverty;

September 19, 2020 16:05

we would raise about $30, which could buy about 15 much-needed pairs of socks. Now lets say ten thousand of the six hundred thousand Seattleites signed up for Penny-A-Day, in one month we would have raised $3,000. That could buy about one thousand five hundred homeless people in Seattle a new pair of socks

September 19, 2020 16:04

The two of us started brainstorming ideas to create a website that would facilitate the exchange of one penny per day from a collection of peoples bank accounts to the Penny A Day fund. In one month, if 100 Seattleites signed up to give one penny a day to help homelessness in Seattle

September 19, 2020 16:03

Imagine finding a penny on the ground. Now imagine that that penny could provide a warm bed or affordable health care for someone in need. This is the concept I spent a lot of time thinking about last summer. My dad is a graphic designer who does a lot of work designing websites.

September 19, 2020 16:02

Along with a higher average salary comes a higher average real estate value. Currently the average home in Seattle costs well over $400,000, leaving many low-income families in the dust. I feel that as a society, if we have the opportunity to help those less fortunate it is our responsibility to take advantage of that opportunity, even if all we have to give is very little

September 19, 2020 16:01

Seattle, Washington is the 10th most expensive city in the United States to live in. This is due to the fact that many major corporations, such as Starbucks, Boeing, and Microsoft, have established their headquarters here, which brings in more money.

September 19, 2020 16:00

Lastly I will go round every household in the village and encourage people to plant Archeapple. It serves as a wind break to protect their buildings. If all these things were done, then the Archeapple will be the treasure chest of the future generation in Sombo

It rather helps to prevent global warming and the greenhouse effect in the community. We have also held a discussion with the chief and elders of the village to make by-laws to protect the trees

September 19, 2020 15:57

n addition to this I and my friend have taken upon ourselves to weed around the Archeapple trees to prevent them from the destruction by fire. We also make sure that the fire belt is wide enough to prevent the trees from burning

I did that and five of them germinated. I fenced them to prevent them from being destroyed by animals. However three of them have already been destroyed by cattle leaving two which are growing very well

September 19, 2020 15:50

To foster sustainable development of the Archeapple tree, I decided to plant five to replace the two that were destroyed. When I nursed the seedling, two germinated. So I went to my grandmother who advised me to sow them directly

i was sad in 2006 August when I got to my village and two out of the four Archeapple trees that were around my house were gone. One was destroyed by wind and the other one due to the construction work in our family house.

September 19, 2020 15:19

Sometimes too much rainfall with heavy wind may destroy these trees. The other problem is pest and other caterpillars that sometimes destroy
16the leaves. Bush burning is another source of the destruction.

Despite these economic and social benefit, the Archeapple trees are destroyed daily at an alarming rate. Human activities are the main causes of the disappearance oftheseimportant trees.

September 19, 2020 15:15

Socially the leaves are used to purify the xylophones after funeral rites. In fact most death are laid in stage under Archeapple trees in my village not to talk about the shade that are mostly used by the people on the funeral ground. It normally has a large shade that can contain so many people at a time. Children also use the cover to play Oware which is a local game

September 19, 2020 15:14

The fruits are also sold for income and also dried for soup which goes powerfully with "Konkonte." The leaves are also used in preparing bele bele and its dry sticks for firewood.

have a special interest in the Archeapple plantation because of the economic and social benefits it has. For example some people depend on the Archeapple fruits for thier lunch during the hunger season.

September 19, 2020 15:13

The trees here are sparely planted. They are mostly made up of trees which can withstand drought. The Archeapple tree is one of the common tree found in this area due to its desert like nature. Another good reason why it is common is that it is a domestic plant and most household depend on it for shade.

September 19, 2020 15:12

The Archeapple tree has a lot of economic and social benefits to the people of Sombo. Sombo is a farming community located in the Nadowli District of the upper west region of Ghana. It lives within the savannah grass land vegetation belt

steam off. Singing and music, to my mind, could be the first common platform of agreement between the two cultures.

A Polish poet Cyprian Kamil Norwid said in one of his poems

Go where you can hear people singing

People there are kind hearted.Believe me.

Bad people

Never ever sing

September 18, 2020 20:23

My town boasts a Group of Song and Dance Andrychow. Its shows together with a Gypsy group would demonstrate that the two cultures could co-exist. Common singing could let steam off. Singing and music, to my mind, could be the first common platform of agreement between the two cultures.

September 18, 2020 20:23

However, in my opinion the instructors' activities should be discreet; it is the Gypsies who are to take decisions. It is a long-term project and it makes both communities stay in contact with each other and learn about each other in different situations. It is meant to bring Gypsies recognition from Andrychow community and overcome culture barriers.

September 18, 2020 20:22

One of the reasons of such presentations would be to find sponsors and receive help from the local government. Instructors would be needed in the following stages of the project to help Gypsies organize their own workshops and shops to sell their products as well as to publicize this enterprise

September 18, 2020 20:21

This group would make presentations of particular items of the project to e.g. schools, culture centers and even state administration offices or factories where exhibitions of amateur works of art could be held.

September 18, 2020 20:21

I realize that putting my project into practice requires time, funds and overcoming some barriers. To do it, I am going to organize a group of volunteers including my Gypsy friends from my junior high school.

Spending summer nights among friends and having barbecues is very popular in Andrychow. This is why I think a train of Gypsy wagons could be attractive to a lot of Andrychow inhabitants.

Hi ! Count my vote again!be assured your idea project have already sparked the world sustainably, best of luck to the finalist too, until then lets remember our goals and objectives motivate us and help us work in the right direction, this will help us being focused on short term goals by giving us enough time to achieve them during the two weeks remaining to refine our idea/project implementation.in other words, the strategy for your goals should be S-M-A-R-T! in my opinion,it is better to have short goals and work on them rather than having long term goals which cannot be attained in the upcoming future.i look forward for your feedbacks/reply @www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/26/18538
How do you handle adversity over doubt?
Thanks you!

a train of Gypsy wagons and flames of a campfire, the strangeness of their language, culture, race and mentality is a barrier not to be overcome. This isolation made the Gypsies of Andrychow a social group of low economic and social status. Uneducated, not understood by others and unemployed, they have to rely on welfare to survive

September 18, 2020 20:00

This community, which kept its own culture away from others, was rejected by the remaining inhabitants of Andrychow. Despite the fact that the inhabitants of Andrychow associate Gypsies with wistful music, fiery dance

Romania, Belgium, Saxony, Silesia as well as Jews and people from other regions of Poland. Gypsies settled in Andrychow as late as 1953. They were a family of five. At present there are 110 Gypsies including 28 children.

Representatives of press and public institutions would be invited to the facilitators training course, in order for them to communicate the importance of using the fabric bags to accomplish sustainable development

September 18, 2020 19:57

In order to keep the people motivated in the care of our environment, all shops and supermarkets should charge for every plastic bag they give to a customer, and encourage the acquisition of the fabric bags that will be available at a very low price, thanks to the sponsors

Carrying Life!Be responsible to your environment. Cooperate with its care.Follow your courses vidalumno instructions, and do not stop using your Cargados de Vida bags

September 18, 2020 19:56

Carrying Life. Every person needs to carry food and supplies to their homes. This is vital for our family life. That is how we carry a responsibility. That is how we carry life.

September 18, 2020 19:55

Plastic bags contain toxic chemical compounds that damage our health and our city.

We suggest that the next time you go to the market and buy fruit, vegetables or other supplies you carry them in your Cargados de Vida bag

September 18, 2020 19:54

Carrying Life!Did you know 1,000,000 plastic bags are produced every minute, and when we trash them they take between 100 and 400 years to decompose and in some cases this never even happens?

September 18, 2020 19:53

so they will then bring them home and explain its use to their families. Every facilitator would wear a special T-shirt and cap to be identified. The total budget for this project is USD $99,500

September 18, 2020 19:53

The fabric bags can be sponsored by different enterprises, and would be printed with the slogan Cargados de Vida Carrying Life. The middle school students would bring these bags to their families, motivating them to stop the reckless use of plastic bags

September 18, 2020 19:52

The vidalumnos would give speeches for the rest of the students and teachers in their schools, regarding the need of replacing the plastic bags they usually receive in shops and supermarkets with fabric bags

September 18, 2020 19:51

The plan consists of training two students of each middle school, who would become vidalumnos life students, a nickname to distinguish them from the rest of the students.

September 18, 2020 19:50

In spite of this, between 9500,000 million to one billion plastic bags are still being produced each year worldwide, ignoring the fact that these materials increase the risk of developing cancer, because of their toxic chemical compounds

September 18, 2020 19:49

Plastic bags have a highly pollutive effect for our environment, because they are made from an oil derivation a non renewable resource that is disappearing. These bags take approximately 100 to 400 years to decompose, and in some cases it never happens

September 18, 2020 19:49

If I could do something to help my city, which currently has over 1,500,000 inhabitants and the largest growth rate in Bolivia, I would apply the great environmental values I learned in Germany into an attempt to significantly reduce the excessive use of plastic bags

Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in an International Student Exchange program, and I lived in Germany for 6 months. The thing that impressed me the most was the peoples concern for the environment. Every single family would separate their trash, avoid plastics, and in my host family, they even sought for hobbies somehow related to nature.

It is excellent! I really like the design the photographs and the way it is written in the local dialect. That is a nice touch. I can almost hear my old grandmother teaching me how to cook, she said. Others agreed with her so we have sold five hundred cookbooks and collected dollar 3000

September 18, 2020 19:35

Many people have bought a cookbook as a gift, souvenir and some were trying to cook a meal using the recipes. My friend's mother at first bought three cookbooks and then she wanted five pieces more.

September 18, 2020 19:34

I had to recite a poem. I forgot some of the words, but never mind. I felt great on the stage when they said it had been my idea. The whole bunch of people came to see the cookbook and taste the meals that were served at the end of the presentation.

September 18, 2020 19:31

The presentation was held in our school on May 30. Some mothers and grandmothers got themselves involved by cooking some old strudels, local cheese and corn cakes and so on. Two couples performed traditional dances and made the event even more special. Ihad a small part as well.

The blogs were an online diary somewhat similar to the Diary of Anne Frank. Anne Frank wrote about her life in hiding during World War Two, and the Iraqi blogs were very much reminiscent of the same adolescent thoughts of 'when will I see my friends again? and'why cannot I go out?

The new communications technologies of today have given each and every one of us a virtual passport to the rest of the world. Sitting in our comfortable homes we drink tea as pictures of atrocities and human rights abuses fleet across our television screens. Voices of men, women and children reverberate with stories of true heartache and unimaginable courage. We are watching and we are listening

September 18, 2020 18:57

However, peace journalism needs guidance and instruction.Media training on how to cover conflict, humanitarian disasters and emergencies needs to be given to journalists. This training would be useful to discount stereotypical reporting and misinformation. Media reports need to be catchy and alluring, thus journalists may be tempted to deal with stories superficially instead of getting to the root of the situation

September 18, 2020 18:56

This kind of journalism, peace journalism, is the way forward to a peaceful world. The Iraq War also saw the advent of the satellite telephone. Due to the extensive bombing and fighting, much of the communications infrastructure in Iraq was destroyed. Thus, television cameras, radio transmitters and the internet were inadequate. The satellite telephone allowed journalists to report from the front line

A couple of words about your daily life can be therapeutic in dealing with unresolved issues. Many conflicts happen because of fear or a lack of knowledge of the unknown; blogs allow an access point to get to know people who we would call strangers today but perhaps friends tomorrow

September 17, 2020 19:42

Blogs can be used to encourage a deeper understanding of diverse people. Writing a blog or reading someone elses blog gives an insight into what it is to be that person. Blogs should be encouraged as a way of cultivating intercultural exchange.

September 17, 2020 19:41

Anne Frank wrote about her life in hiding during World War Two, and the Iraqi blogs were very much reminiscent of the same adolescent thoughts of 'when will I see my friends again? and 'why cannot I go out?

September 17, 2020 19:40

Iraqis living in Iraq started writing blogs as a way of letting the outside world know what was happening. As bomb after bomb fell on Baghdad, Iraqis shared their fears and experiences on their blogs. The blogs were an online diary somewhat similar to the Diary of Anne Frank.

Voices of men, women and children reverberate with stories of true heartache and unimaginable courage. We are watching and we are listening.Theworld witnessed first hand in 2003 as the war in Iraq erupted

September 17, 2020 19:39

The new communications technologies of today have given each and every one of us a virtual passport to the rest of the world. Sitting in our comfortable homes we drink tea as pictures of atrocities and human rights abuses fleet across our television screens

September 17, 2020 19:39

However, peace journalism needs guidance and instruction.Media training on how to cover conflict, humanitarian disasters and emergencies needs to be given to journalists. This training would be useful to discount stereotypical reporting and misinformation. Media reports need to be catchy and alluring, thus journalists may be tempted to deal with stories superficially instead of getting to the root of the situation

September 17, 2020 19:38

This kind of journalism, peace journalism, is the way forward to a peaceful world. Peace journalism is also known as 'journalism with a cause, and it not only focuses on situations but alsoexamines possible solutions. Journalist John Pilger is notorious for his reports about the arms trade. He examines the arms trade industry and also the anti arms trade activism that runs parallel

During the 1980s, the media sparked a global response to the famine in Ethiopia. Media reports about bloated babies and starving men and women horrified people, and resulted in action

Journalists come under fire for fabricating and over simplifying events. As one of the four pillars of society and as watch dog of the state, the media is instrumental in getting information to the public.

According to the Second Life platform, I would create a copy of the world. Global maps like Google Earth go a long way forming these images. By zooming in on the globe, you can visit places you even never heard about.

September 17, 2020 19:19

Real life games copy capitalistic worlds. The most important value is becoming rich and successful as quickly as possible. If I was a game developer, I would change the aim of the game. Am I naïve when I dream of a peaceful world of equality? Am I wrong when I say video games can show how to achieve it?

September 17, 2020 19:18

After this success, the game industry developed a new world: Second Life! It is a virtual copy of reality with his own economic system and a lot of connections to the real world. Big companies place advertisements in the Second Life world, you can even change your Linden Dollars for real money

September 17, 2020 19:15

My boyfriend shocked me with his race-game Carmageddon, which allowed him to knock down pedestrians. He even received bonus points by doing so. Recent games like ManHunt totally lost the connection with good overcoming bad. You have to be the criminal, killing realistic victims in the cruellest ways

September 17, 2020 19:14

Since I grew older, the game world showed his darker side. I saw my friends enjoying first-person shooter and real time strategy games. After school, they became serial killers in the private sphere of their PC or game-console

Observing my culture, I witnessed new worlds we're shaping in challenging ways.I am born in the eighties. As an eight year old, I queued for the release of PlayStation. I was ten when my parents bought a PC and twelve when I stared at the screen of my first Game Boy. The games we kids played in the nineties were innocent.

We are all players in a game called life. We have to find ways; encountering obstacles, victories, comedies, tragedies, but most of all. other people like us. I started playing twenty years ago without even noticing my role. Little by little I felt aware of the game, the choices and the directions life can take.

Imagine a game, which is never game over.

Imagine a game, which will change your world.

Imagine a game, which will make you see things from another point of view.

If people of the world could sit around after dinner with a teacup in one hand and chat about the days events with people of different cultures and languages living on the other side of the globe, and if this custom caught on around the world, surely world peace would follow naturally.

This would require considerable development of translation technology, but just as people long ago were unable to imagine towns brightly lit by electric light bulbs, realization of such technology is distinctly possib

September 17, 2020 18:48

Accordingly, we are probably getting closer to realizing a GTT that will promote deep mutual understanding among people of the world.Eventually the GTT would develop from a text conversation table format to one that could accommodate voice communication and then video chat

September 17, 2020 18:47

Removing language barriers in this way is an indispensable condition for realizing mutual understanding of races and religious beliefs. Fortunately, language barriers are getting smaller each day as development of automatic translation technology makes significant progress.

September 17, 2020 18:45

For example, a series of media reports on visits to Yasukuni Shrine was the major cause of the biases against Koreans I mentioned earlier. Luckily for me, because I lived in America and was able to talk to him in English, I was able to rid myself of these stereotypes at an early stage

September 17, 2020 18:45

But this information has been edited by the media organization and may differ somewhat from information gained directly. At times, these differences plant discrimination and bias in peoples hearts, and hinder mutual understand between people of different races.

September 17, 2020 18:44

The biggest problem in realizing a GTT is the language barrier. However, if we can overcome this barrier, we can truly realize unprecedented communication. Today, people get information about the world by looking at the news in their native language

September 17, 2020 18:43

If I did not have the chance to join the same team at the same time as him, I would probably still have biases against Korean people. Most probably, I would have never imagined that connecting with Korean people was possible. By establishing GTT as a place to promote mutual understanding, we can realize a world of understanding without prejudice

September 17, 2020 18:43

The world that emerges when prejudices are removed is unbelievably vast. I used to play on a soccer team with a Korean boy. In the process of playing soccer together and chatting about our favorite players I forgot all the biases I had had until then

September 17, 2020 18:39

whilst avoiding troubles frequently associated with conventional chat rooms that seek close relationships. GTT would be a place for casual conversations consistent with teatime, and would not encourage users to delve too deeply into one anothers privacy.

whilst avoiding troubles frequently associated with conventional chat rooms that seek close relationships. GTT would be a place for casual conversations consistent with teatime, and would not encourage users to delve too deeply into one anothers privacy.

September 17, 2020 18:36

People accessing the GTT site would be invited to a randomly selected table where they would join people chatting and enjoy casual conversation. Selecting conversation partners randomly would offer users opportunities to engage on an equal footing in unbiased conversations with people from various different cultures,

September 17, 2020 18:35

Teatime can only be enjoyable when everyone observes manners, so people who do not behave would have to be penalized by prohibiting their access or taking other suitable action. Strengthening security in this way would enable GTT to offer participants an unprecedented secure haven

September 17, 2020 18:35

At the GTT, all participants would be required to provide identification, and a committee to handle malicious users would be established in each country to prevent this kind of trouble from occurring.

September 17, 2020 18:34

The internet is a heaven-sent tool for realizing a tea table at which we could enjoy casual conversation with anyone in the world. People with different cultures and backgrounds from around the world could get together online and enjoy communicating. But the constant threat of fraud and other crimes associated with existing online chat rooms makes it difficult to describe them as havens where one could enjoy a cup of tea.

With civil war rife among races and religions worldwide, it almost seems that world peace has retreated to a completely different world far away. However, is not peace simpler than that? Is not peace the feeling you get when your body relaxes and you enjoy peace of mind, in fact,

Once Marcus Tullius Cicero shouted out The welfare of society is the highest law Let us together make our global king understand that. Let us take actions Maybe I am a dreamer but

September 17, 2020 18:20

the day when the teenagers from all over the world meet. The global king should be inspired by such ideas, which unite young people.I think that on the TV there should be more programs showing and explaining foreign habits, traditions, outlooks upon life, ways of thinking.

September 17, 2020 18:19

Owing to the knowledge of different languages we can communicate with peers all over the world and exchanging our thoughts. Tha is why different TV channels should broadcast the educational programs teaching every teenager foreign languages. OSCE endorsed The Year of Knowledge of Foreign Languages 2001. John Paul II initiated The World Youth Day

September 17, 2020 18:18

The child is the father of the man, convinces us an old proverb. The media are expected to speak to them in clear and understandable way. Journalists should be a real moral authority. Whey do not the mass media reach and stimulated the thoughts of these little dwellers of our globe?

September 17, 2020 18:17

The most important targets of all sources of information should be the youngest children. They are the future brave activists, who will shape our world in 20 30 years time with the full respect for human rights and for human dignity.

September 17, 2020 18:17

So I dare ask what is the point of the war in Iraq? How do the civilians live there? Why are their civil rights being violated? Both state and independent media should show and explain true history. The moral duty of media is to teach how conflicts may be prevented, how to become humane, compassionate and altruistic.

September 17, 2020 18:16

In the future the media ought to devote much more time and attention to historical problems. Once heard the worlds of a politician who claimed on TV that nowadays we live in a better world, free from the mistakes of the past centuries.

September 17, 2020 18:15

am deeply interested in history and I am positive it plays a very important role in building every persons consciousness. One can shape new history without committing the mistakes of the past only if one knows the past

September 17, 2020 18:14

The global king should let them appeal to the public to move the hearts of those who lead a life of abundance. That is why mass media should show it to make people from developed countries help these children.

September 17, 2020 18:11

While the TV floods us with political news, gossip about celebrities, every single minute there die 57 children because of starvation. They have been desperately waiting to say something to us, to cry for help

September 17, 2020 17:56

we wanted to be an independent nation with the rights equal to the other nations. Why hardly any newspapers all over the world spoke for us? Now there are some nations who also want to be heard they need assistance to be given a chance to speak loudly. Why do not the mass media give them a helping hand?

September 17, 2020 17:56

The mass media are the biggest power in the world, it seems to be the global king. The role of this king should be to spread peace, harmony and brotherhood among all his subjects, namely us. Frederick II of Prussia was very famous for his motto I am the first servant of my country. I believe this should be the message from our global king to our global country

September 17, 2020 17:54

Before I started my essay, I had surveyed two groups of teenagers to find out what information they remembered after listening to news on TV or from the radio. It turned out that LITERALLY zero percent of the surveyed students who were fifteen and sixteen had ever heard and taken into their hearts the information concerning peace campaigns and voluntary work

September 17, 2020 17:54

After a month, Maria could walk on crutches, she saw happy people, smiling figures on walls, smiles on goods and not only bad but also good news in the newspapers. Her cousin was next to her and said Maria, you changed the world, No, said Maria, that was not me, the media did it

September 17, 2020 17:53

to show also good news. He thought about a large campaign With a smile towards peace. Marias hopes grew, she thought: My grandma does not live any longer, but she would be proud if she could see me now. The philologists e mail arrived on the next morning:

September 17, 2020 17:52

Betis father was the managing director of a TV programme. Maria received a letter from him saying how much he liked the project and that he has his own ideas. First of all, all TV speakers would have to smile and journalists would have to show also good news.

September 17, 2020 17:51

The next day was exhausting. First a talk with a friend of her cousin. He worked in the PR business and said that many producing companies would agree to print a smile on the packages of their goods like a little label.

September 17, 2020 17:51

They promised to find a translation of the word smile in all sorts of languages. This enthusiasm surprised Maria. It was late now and she better got some sleep, the first night she fell asleep with a smile

September 17, 2020 17:50

At midnight a programmer suggested to do a mailing with the message in various languages. This e-mail would circulate around the world and make people smile. The idea with the languages found the interest of philologists and some students

September 17, 2020 17:49

Maria was enthusiastic. Beti promised to make a project out of it named With a smile towards peace and she wanted to show it to her boss. She thought the idea was so good that it could unite newspapers and magazines

September 17, 2020 17:48

Maria had often heard the word media but did not know very well what it really meant. Media exist to inform people. They can also change the opinion of a society. The Internet, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, films and music are all media.

September 17, 2020 17:47

Some other friends were interested in the idea. A friend said she could produce a T shirt, which says smile. After an hour of talking with friends and others, Marias cousin Beti, a journalist by profession, came to visit her in the hospital. She was interested in the theme peace and asked Maria why do not you involve the media

September 17, 2020 17:46

Maria saw that one of her friends was online. She told him about her idea and asked him to send her message to all his e mail friends. He promised it and added My friends and I make graffiti. If we paint many happy people on the walls, people looking at it will smile to

September 17, 2020 17:45

But how can a girl with a broken leg spread out a smile? She looked around herself. The laptop was there, close to her. Her hope, the Internet. The Internet unites mankind. The message Smile will reach everybody if it can be seen on the Internet. But will that be enough?

September 17, 2020 17:45

Human beings must be united by something if there shall be no more war. This is a good idea. They must help each other, be happy, have friends. She looked through the window and saw a happy child outside. The smile of the child was like the smile of an angel. Smiling. This will be the beginning

September 17, 2020 17:44

Human beings must be united by something if there shall be no more war. This is a good idea. They must help each other, be happy, have friends. She looked through the window and saw a happy child outside. The smile of the child was like the smile of an angel. Smiling. This will be the beginning

September 17, 2020 17:43

disease struck her. She remembered what her grandma had told her about World War II and thought about it.

This shall never happen again were the words of her grandma. In that very moment Maria had an idea What can I do so that there are no more wars? She felt no desperation, no unbelief, she just used her thinking.

September 17, 2020 17:42

But even that was boring without friends. Maria listened to music, tried to watch movies, nothing was really interesting. One rainy afternoon she listened to the news and words such as war, death,

September 17, 2020 17:41

One month in bed by the end of the school term. Her friends and fellow students had to study. Very rarely one could visit her. After 2 days of feeling lonely she got an old laptop from her father and the best was that it had Internet access.

September 17, 2020 17:40

Everything happened so quickly. One moment Maria was on her bike, the next moment she found herself on the ground with a broken leg. After hearing the diagnosis of the doctor, Maria was totally discouraged

September 17, 2020 17:29

To effectively inculcate peace I would organize a World Peace Music Fest held once every 5 years where Music Celebrities from all over the World would be invited to perform simultaneously within specific Cities in their Continents and broadcast live on Television, Radio and Internet channels worldwide. To crown the events would be an award sponsored by UNESCO for Musicians campaigning for peace through their songs as Voted for by fans through the internet and a selected wide based panel of jurist. This would be a charity show whose proceeds would be used to supply Humanitarian aid to conflict zones.

September 17, 2020 17:28

You should come and visit soon or the Dead Sea will be gone. I was surprised that he did not know the Dead Sea was disappearing, but I was quite delighted by his words, You should come soon. I immediately replied, Shukran thank you. I would not bother bringing my swimming tube

September 17, 2020 17:27

Some time ago, I saw in the news that the Dead Sea in Jordan was disappearing. I was shocked and wrote an email to my friend in Jordan. His reply, which took some time to come, said, Is that so? I did not know?

September 17, 2020 17:26

Therefore, I have a favor to ask of the people who disseminate news and gather information. I would like them to recognize that there are people waiting foreven the most insignificant of news, and I would like them to act responsibly by conveying only the facts. This is because inaccurate information could even cause a war

September 17, 2020 17:26

Information from Japan was all the more important because it was so limited. Each piece of news affected me. I would get happy thinking, Wow, so that is what Japan is like now, or Relations between India and Pakistan have improved. That is good. At other times, I would get worried thinking, Not another suicide bomb. I hope my friend B is okay.

September 17, 2020 17:25

My father, who named me, laughed saying, Kazu in Kazuki means Japan, so it is your destiny. So I got very excited about news from Japan as well. Looking at trends and ads for new products in the much anticipated magazines and comics that arrived late, I was determined to buy them all when I got back to Japan.

September 17, 2020 17:24

or I have been to that country B. Whenever I found an article about one of these countries, even if it were a tiny article in the corner of a newspaper, I would run and show it to my family and cut it out.

September 17, 2020 17:23

Also, I became very interested in their home countries, which I would have dismissed before saying, Where is that? I have no idea. I began to watch news about these countries thinking, My friend A lives in that country now, or That is my second homeland, India, where I used to live

September 17, 2020 17:22

really liked those boys with sparkling white teeth, who were delighted to take home the games that I lent them and Japanese comics they could not possibly read, and who gave me candies that were excessively sweet. We became friends through what little information we shared.

September 17, 2020 17:22

In India, I was able to meet people from countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Jordan and Iraq people you would rarely meet in Japan. Everyones face and skin color were different, but we all liked the games and movies that were popular at the time.

September 17, 2020 17:21

But have you ever thought what it would be like if we did not have these information? I used to live in India where I had little information and was even unable to watch NHK. I would like to write about that experience.

September 17, 2020 17:21

In this age of the Internet, a call urging people to take action may reach all corners of the world at once. If people throughout the world knew what they needed to do now and concentrated their efforts on it, things would rapidly progress in the right direction. What we must not forget under any circumstances is the will to learn the truth.Simply taking an interest can be a first step toward peace

September 17, 2020 17:20

However, no matter how hard they try to inform us, unless we are open to learning and knowing, we will be unable to acquire enough knowledge. So perhaps they should approach the public by emphasizing the benefits to be gained by engaging in a particular kind of activity.

September 17, 2020 17:19

things that we have been unable to see before will become visible, and we should be able to move forward. That is why media should convey what is happening in the world right now clearly, and show us everything we can possibly do

September 17, 2020 17:18

I would like them to give us the facts without hiding anything, good or bad.Everyone favors something that advantages them over something that disadvantages them. But if we can get beyond that and address things earnestly,

September 17, 2020 17:17

Rather than providing difficult explanations, television programs should devise ways of attracting everyone's interest. Conveying things in a way that is easy to understand and touches peoples hearts is both the role and the responsibility of the media

September 17, 2020 17:17

Also, it makes me really sad to see stepped on tomato and other food squashed beyond recognition on the classroom floor after lunch. But there is nothing unusual about that. Most of these things, I believe, are influenced by the television we watch so much of.

September 17, 2020 17:16

In Japan, many people have become so affluent they have lost sight of the world around them. Most children tend to hate studying, and although there are places where children are unable to study even if they want to, there are people at my school that tear their textbooks or throw them in the dust bin.

September 17, 2020 17:15

Food is readily available in Japan and easy to come by, but the same cannot be said of all countries. Right now, at this very moment, hundreds and thousands of children are dying of starvation worldwide. What would people in these poor countries think if they saw such a spectacle? If it were me, I would not be able to accept the reality before my eyes

September 17, 2020 17:14

Consider the speed eating and eating competitions popular of late, for example. They both involve a lot of food. Contestants eat up their platefuls of food, devouring them as if they were wild animals and spilling food sloppily from their mouths

September 17, 2020 17:13

According to my observation, television programs these days deal crudely with food and try to get a laugh from mundane things. Seeing this makes me think Could not they make better use of the time?

September 17, 2020 17:12

I do not think many people know what is going on in the world today. I don't know that much myself. So I must find out what is going on where at this point in time, and what I can do to help. But I do not have enough information

September 17, 2020 17:04

However, if they could learn the real cause through the media, they could gradually try to make amends by starting with the things around them, and one day, the currently rising global temperature might just go down again.

September 17, 2020 17:03

think the act of knowing is very important. This is true in all situations. Consider global environmental issues arising from global warming, for example. These issues have arisen because we humans produce large quantities of greenhouse gases, but many people do not realize that they are part of the cause.

September 16, 2020 19:37

However, a Kenyan photographer named Mohamed Amin sneaked in and captured pathetic scenes of people starving death and relayed it worldwide through the media. As a result a group of musicians like Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchiel

September 16, 2020 19:36

Also Music should be used to rally people for social and humanitarian causes as in the case of Ethiopian in 1984 when a terrible famine struck the country. Unfortunately the country's government did not want to disclose to the international community the state of affa

September 16, 2020 19:35

In the future the media and ICT should be used to counter vice and nurture a culture of peace. In order to achieve this objective there is need to reassess the use of these two powerful universal means of expression music and Theatre arts Movies

September 16, 2020 19:34

On the negative side, media has been used to promote Corruption, Maladministration, Nepotism, Regionalism, Radicalism and many other vices which to date plagues our society. Still fresh in our minds is the 1994 tribal conflict in Rwanda and Burundi in which a Rwandese named Felican Kabuga who owned a radio station used the same to fuel violence between Hutus and Tutsis. The war affected the combatants and non-combatants within 100 days approximately 2 million lives were shattered. As such the importance of media and ICT in just governance cannot be over emphasized.

September 16, 2020 19:32

Print and electronic media. The relayed information may be in form of News, Advertisement, and Entertainment or Awareness Creation. These technologies have played a fundamental role in escalating: Commerce, Education, Science, Culture and Lifestyle.

September 16, 2020 19:30

The success of 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, doubtless to say rested on Media and Information and Communication Technologies. Television and Radio channels world over beamed with news of the event.

You should come and visit soon or the Dead Sea will be gone. I was surprised that he did not know the Dead Sea was disappearing, but I was quite delighted by his words, You should come soon. I immediately replied, Shukran thank you. I would not bother bringing my swimming tube.

Some time ago, I saw in the news that the Dead Sea in Jordan was disappearing. I was shocked and wrote an email to my friend in Jordan. His reply, which took some time to come, said, Is that so? I did not know?

Therefore, I have a favor to ask of the people who disseminate news and gather information. I would like them to recognize that there are people waiting foreven the most insignificant of news, and I would like them to act responsibly by conveying only the facts. This is because inaccurate information could even cause a war.

Wow, so that is what Japan is like now, or Relations between India and Pakistan have improved. That Is good. At other times, I would get worried thinking, Not another suicide bomb. I hope my friend B is okay

I was determined to buy them all when I got back to Japan. Information from Japan was all the more important because it was so limited. Each piece of news affected me. I would get happy thinking, Wow,

t was the same with Japan. I began to pay more attention to Japan now that I was living away. I became fascinated by temples, Japanese history, Japanese confectionary, the Shakuhachi and other Japanese things, just like a foreigner who loves Japan

My friend A lives in that country now, or That is my second homeland, India, where I used to live, or I have been to that country B. Whenever I found an article about one of these countries, even if it were a tiny article in the corner of a newspaper, I would run and show it to my family and cut it out.

September 16, 2020 18:26

Also, I became very interested in their home countries, which I would have dismissed before saying, Where is that? I have no idea. I began to watch news about these countries thinking,

September 16, 2020 18:25

I really liked those boys with sparkling white teeth, who were delighted to take home the games that I lent them and Japanese comics they could not possibly read, and who gave me candies that were excessively sweet. We became friends through what little information we shared.

September 16, 2020 18:25

In India, I was able to meet people from countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Jordan and Iraq people you would rarely meet in Japan. Everyones face and skin color were different, but we all liked the games and movies that were popular at the time

September 16, 2020 18:24

But have you ever thought what it would be like if we did not have these information? I used to live in India where I had little information and was even unable to watch NHK. I would like to write about that experience

September 16, 2020 18:23

With the Internet, magazines, newspapers and other media, there is an abundance of information available today, and living in the center of it all makes instant access to information on the other side of the world within our reach.

In this age of the Internet, a call urging people to take action may reach all corners of the world at once. If people throughout the world knew what they needed to do now and concentrated their efforts on it, things would rapidly progress in the right direction

September 16, 2020 18:22

However, no matter how hard they try to inform us, unless we are open to learning and knowing, we will be unable to acquire enough knowledge. So perhaps they should approach the public by emphasizing the benefits to be gained by engaging in a particular kind of activity.

Also, it makes me really sad to see stepped-on tomato and other food squashed beyond recognition on the classroom floor after lunch. But there is nothing unusual about that. Most of these things, I believe, are influenced by the television we watch so much of.

In Japan, many people have become so affluent they have lost sight of the world around them. Most children tend to hate studying, and although there are places where children are unable to study even if they want to, there are people at my school that tear their textbooks or throw them in the dust bin.

September 16, 2020 18:17

Food is readily available in Japan and easy to come by, but the same cannot be said of all countries. Right now, at this very moment, hundreds and thousands of children are dying of starvation worldwide. What would people in these poor countries think if they saw such a spectacle? If it were me, I would not be able to accept the reality before my eye

September 16, 2020 18:17

Consider the speed eating and eating competitions popular of late, for example. They both involve a lot of food. Contestants eat up their platefuls of food, devouring them as if they were wild animals and spilling food sloppily from their mouths

September 16, 2020 18:16

According to my observation, television programs these days deal crudely with food and try to get a laugh from mundane things. Seeing this makes me think Could not they make better use of the time?

September 16, 2020 18:15

I do not think many people know what is going on in the world today. I do not know that much myself. So I must find out what is going on where at this point in time, and what I can do to help. But I do not have enough information

When there is war people will panic. They will evacuate to other places. There will be little food and small space for shelter in the school buildings, where they will be housed. September 16, 2020 18:06

When families and nations share their resources with neighbors, struck by disaster, that is an example of loving one's neighbor. The people hit by calamities feel happy to receive what their kind neighbors give them. Is not that love? Then joy and peace fill their hearts.

September 16, 2020 18:05

During natural disasters, like earthquakes, tidal waves and landslides, families share their food, clothes, and blankets, eating and cooking utensils with the victims. In the Bible, in the book of Matthew chapter 22 verse 39 it says Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

My Korean friend and I might not have become friends because of the war in the past. That is why I think wars are bad. I do not have the power to stop war allby myself. But why don't we all start by sending email to someone in a country we know nothing about

September 16, 2020 18:02

It would be really wonderful if everyone could make 200 friends. People around the world would learn, accept and understand things about other countries. Then, instead of looking at a country as just a country, we can relate to a personal friend there, and perhaps come to like the people of that country too, just like my Korean friend did.

September 16, 2020 18:01

What would happen if not just me, but people throughout the world did this? Maybe we would all become friends. Maybe the day will come when people around the world will exchange email with people in differentcountrie

September 16, 2020 18:01

Then I wondered what would happen if I sent email to someone in each of those 200 countries. It would be interesting to see what kind of replies I would get. If I did this I would learn a lot about those 200 countries, and the people in those countries would learn a lot about Japa

September 16, 2020 18:00

I thought I could find out on my computer so I looked at the internet. According to my computer, there are about 200 countries. I was surprised there were so many countries.

September 16, 2020 18:00

How could I do that? How many people are there in the world? I began by thinking about how many countries there were in the world. At first I thought there were about 150 countries. Then I wondered how I could check and find out.

September 16, 2020 17:59

So if we used the internet to exchange email with people in other countries, I think we could learn and understand lots of different things. What would happen if I sent email to people in countries throughout the world?

September 16, 2020 17:59

I think that if I get to know someone well, I will understand that person better, and that person will understand me better too. Just as my Korean friend learned that I was not a bad person, I think we can learn to understand people in different countries.

September 16, 2020 17:58

I have a Korean friend. At first, she did not like me very much because she knew that Japan had been at war with Korea a long time ago. But I played with her everyday so she came to realize that not all Japanese people were bad. That made me really happy. But this year, she will go back to Korea. We have become really good friends so I will miss her a lot

September 16, 2020 17:56

The producers of these shows would have their own online forum where they could be in regular communication with their colleagues in other parts of the world to learn from their experience

September 16, 2020 17:56

Such global reflection would show how all parties might be called to respond to these concerns. While online forums are important, attention should not be diverted from the role of radio shows itself, as most people in the global South do not have unlimited access to the Internet in a way that would encourage participation in online forums

September 16, 2020 17:55

All national conversations would be streamed online. Using a common website, each country and show could have its own accompanying online forums to provide the opportunity to articulate, bring to the fore and find commonality on concerns for the state of individuals, communities and their habitats

September 16, 2020 17:54

These weekly shows could take place in every country, hosted by skilled facilitators who have a passion for radio as a tool for reaching everyone from Senators and corporate leaders to peasants and internally displaced people.

September 16, 2020 17:53

The financing of these shows could come from both the national governments and an international body to help ensure that they would remain independent from the mood swings of national politics

with a public audience, is an opportunity for stronger accountability, and will help people be more informed about what is going on. It is also a way to ensure that these conversations remain in the public sphere without being dominated by politics or corporate interests.

September 16, 2020 17:52

The current lack of communication between those on the edges and those in the center of our system harms everyone; finding ways for them to listen to one another not only to yell or complain but to actually talk and listen would be a gift to everyones humanity. Doing it on the air

September 16, 2020 17:52

especially the use and treatment of natural resources. These forums would not only give marginalized people a space to be heard, it would give policy makers and corporate leaders the opportunity to explore how their actions really do influence the lives of people they might not otherwise have the opportunity to hear fro

September 16, 2020 17:51

I propose creating world wide Radio Forums: weekly national radio shows where people can engage in conversations with governments, corporations and other powerful entities about the common good

September 16, 2020 17:51

there is no way to peace peace is the way. Communication is one of the most essential aspects of building long lasting relationships. Creating a space for that communication to occur on an ongoing basis is vitally important

September 16, 2020 17:50

Frequently, marginalization becomes a principal source of conflict. Thus, working for peace necessitates actively creating processes for greater inclusion of all people from commoners to presidents in the decision making processes that influence their lives.

September 16, 2020 17:48

When I was living in Kenya, I saw this kind of marginalization everywhere I went. People were crying out for the space to be heard and to hear one another. This is true not only in Kenya but around the world

September 16, 2020 17:44

then surely the world would come closer to peace. Even in the midst of the dull humdrum of life, surely there must be a time, a place or a thing that makes one feel safe and secure. One of the first steps we can take towards building peace is to notice the happiness in our immediate environment. Why don't we start by communicating that to the world?

September 16, 2020 17:43

Even if we do not engage directly in peace activities, if we could inspire and encourage people who feel lonely, people who are languishing, or people who are distressed simply by taking photographs, and if compassion grew among the people who saw these photographs,

September 16, 2020 17:42

In the future, the media should enhance its role as a bridge to connect countries in peace. If people throughout the world can share their photographs with one another, completely different peoples in very distant lands could become closer

September 16, 2020 17:42

Then, members could be allowed to delete photographs and comments they regard as inappropriate, or translate comments written in their native language by other members. Creating such a system would ensure appropriate behavior

September 16, 2020 17:41

Foreseeable problems would be the appropriateness of the photographs and the language barrier. These could be resolved by adopting a membership system. When joining, members would have to agree to build a peaceful society, and accept responsibility for their decisions and behavior

September 16, 2020 17:41

I believe that it is only when people come to respect one anothers ideas, that compassion would grow and we would learn to understand people in distant lands.

I believe that it is only when people come to respect one anothers ideas, that compassion would grow and we would learn to understand people in distant lands.

September 16, 2020 17:39

This would encourage viewers to actively and freely add their own impressions and opinions. These comments would then enable people in different countries viewing the same photograph to see how differently other people may feel and think

September 16, 2020 17:38

Also, if you are inspired by any of the photos, you could share your impression. In principle, the person who contributed the photograph would not be allowed to express his or her own ideas as a comment.

September 16, 2020 17:38

I still cannot get over what a peaceful moment that was. Likewise, it could be the sky at the beginning of a new day, people frolicking in a lake or in the sea, or the eyes of a loving grandfather watching his family anything would be appropriate.

September 16, 2020 17:36

moments that make me smile. In my case, for example, I recall an occasion during my junior high school days, when I saw the sun set right before me as I said goodbye to my teacher and classmates in front of the school gate.

September 16, 2020 17:35

So I propose creating a web site to show photos where anyone in the world could upload their photos. The theme should be Things and occasions that make me feel peaceful and secure

September 16, 2020 17:35

But, what about photographs? Even if there was difference in race, looking at a photograph of a mother picking up her newborn child would naturally make one smile. Even if there was no explanation given, the feelings of the mother in the photograph would come through clearly

September 16, 2020 17:34

So, I would like to use cameras and the Internet to communicate the spirit of peace. There are many languages in this world, and it would be difficult to share one anothers ideas simply by reading text.

September 16, 2020 17:33

A peaceful feeling would germinate not only in the person who gave up his seat and the person who was given the seat, but also in the people who witnessed that act. So how can we share this spirit of compassion with people around the world?

September 16, 2020 17:33

I think the most important aspect of building a peaceful world is for each and every one of us to embrace compassion. For example, I think something as simple as giving up your seat on a bus or train to an elderly person becomes a step towards peace

September 16, 2020 17:32

circumstances that are hard to describe as peace. If peace is achieved only when all of these problems cease to exist, then mankind has never experienced peace. Is peace such a difficult thing to achieve?

September 16, 2020 17:32

Has the world ever really been at peace? At firstI thought peace meant a world without war. However, even without war, disparities and discrimination exist, and even my home country Japan is rife with bullying, suicide and domestic violence

September 16, 2020 17:31

. If we can do this, I believe that the seed of peace would grow. And one day we will be able to see the beauty of the peace flower that we have been waiting to be harvested. Now, just take your cell phone and send this message to the people that you actually love:

September 16, 2020 17:30

That day for me was a magical day. Because it was the moment when I had the opportunity to gain my dream, which is creating peace in my own environment. Starting by my closest environment: friends. I never imagine that technology could help me to spread the seed of peace to my friends

September 16, 2020 17:30

They said no one ever tell them about it before. No one had the courage to remind them that we, as a whole class, actually in love and care upon each other. They also said that they actually had been missing the feeling of togetherness after all

They said no one ever tell them about it before. No one had the courage to remind them that we, as a whole class, actually in love and care upon each other. They also said that they actually had been missing the feeling of togetherness after all

September 16, 2020 17:29

Soon after I was approached by Avice, Christine and the rest of the class. They all thanked me for the SMS that I had sent. They said that by the time they receive the SMS, they soon realized that the disputes had torn our class apart

September 16, 2020 17:29

You know what? Avice, the boys gangs leader and Christine, the girls gangs leader were making a conversation. But this time was not a dispute. They were talking nicely with smiles and laughter. The same things also happened to the rest of the class. They were chatting together. Whats happen?

September 16, 2020 17:28

In the next morning, with a shaking knee and cold hand, I walked into the class. Along the way that I passed, my mind wildly imagined about what happen inside my class. But when I arrived in front of its door, I was wondered by the situation.

September 16, 2020 17:27

Soon after school, I picked my cell phone and started to write a SMS and sent it to all of my classmates in grade 8 2, with a short message to all friends that I love PEACE MAN 8 2. For me it was a trial and error moment because I had no ability to predict what would happen tomorrow morning in my class. Would there be another madness or what? I even wasn't able to sleep that nigh

September 16, 2020 17:27

. Feeling tired of this, I was searching for any way to stop this chilling atmosphere. And suddenly I got an idea!! I got this ideasoon after I observe that almost my entire classmates own cell phones.

September 16, 2020 17:26

Seeing this condition was a heartbreaking moment for me because deep down in my heart I want to be neutral. I want to be fair. I want to listen both sides and still make friends with my boy and girl friends

September 16, 2020 17:26

One problem such as a personal humiliation which is intended to be a joke could be a source of dispute that creates an inter gendered communication deadlock in my class. When we have this problem, the atmosphere of my class would likely be as cold as Himalaya or as silent as a cemetery. It is true

September 16, 2020 17:25

This problem makes me sometimes feel really uncomfortable to be in school because I can not find any peace there. According to my observation, gangs, clubs, groups, of course have the potential to create disputes and jealousy. I believe so because I have ever been in that condition and here is the story

September 16, 2020 17:25

Doing a social relationship and making friends in my school mean that we have to join a gang, such as in clever students communities, rich students clubs, nerds, cheerleaders, and so on. Majority and minority are the main issue. Until now, this condition has trapped all students including me to live everyday with this kind of rule.

September 16, 2020 17:24

School is a battle field because the atmosphere of competition is all around. The competition that I mean here is not only about the subjects marks race between friends, but it is more about the competition of the prestigious life.

September 16, 2020 17:23

Why? Because its function has already changed. Not only becoming an education source, but now it also has become a place that I call a battle field. Why I said so?

Why? Because its function has already changed. Not only becoming an education source, but now it also has become a place that I call a battle field. Why I said so?

September 16, 2020 17:23

As people know, school should be the most comfortable place to develop our knowledge and gain as much as academic and social experiences in our youth. That is the ideal idea. But in fact, recently, schools are no longer a comfortable place to study in.

September 16, 2020 17:22

And when human beings hear that the weather becomes abnormally hot or abnormally cold they start thinking it over. Of course, not everybody, but many start to live so as to not cause harm to nature

September 16, 2020 17:21

Unfortunately many lacks of modern mass media are connected, first of all, with the fact that some of us want to see horrors and violence on screens and internet -sites.Lets take such a problem as global warming. Ecologists have aroused the alarm about the irreversible changes of climate on the planet because of unreasonable activities of people who litter the atmosphere and the world ocean.

September 16, 2020 17:20

Certainly, we should be better ourselves. Each person should live fairly, be merciful and respectable, and love the world and people around. And when we change the mass media will change as well. In fact they reflect our life like a mirror. The old Russian proverb says There is no point scolding a mirror if your face is curve

September 16, 2020 17:20

Therefore, I think, that each journalist, each editor-in-chief, each producer is responsible for what we see, we hear and we read. Maybe it is high time we introduced a severe punishment for spreading hatred and wars by means of mass media.

September 16, 2020 17:19

sites call people for violence and cruelty, distribute pornography including childrens, advertise activities of terrorist organizations and destructive sects. There should not be such mass media in our world, because they are directed against Man and destroy our world and lives

September 16, 2020 17:18

Of course mass media can play a very important role in it. With their help inhabitants of different countries can address to each other, unite and make the world better. However not always mass media reflect truthfully the reality. Sometimes some editions, TV channels and Internet

September 16, 2020 17:18

A second and the terrorist will blow up a big shop in Turkey. And then the greatest desire appears to do the utmost for all people to live peacefully and appreciate each others opinion. Please adults, politicians find the solution for peaceful coexistence and stop bleeding

September 16, 2020 17:17

Today I read and I hear about blood in Iraq and the war in Sector Gaza. All these help me to understand how fragile our world is. In one second can a monstrous tsunami make thousands of people vanish from the surface of the earth.

September 16, 2020 17:16

Thanks to Mass Media all these human tragedies became my own. And my heart was aching when I saw the people carrying the burnt and exhausted Beslan schoolchildren on stretchers after they had been freed. Many of them were of my age. It was then when I understood how important the role of mass media in our life is

September 16, 2020 17:16

I was four years old when the terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center in the USA. At that moment, watching TV together with my parents, I was too small to understand everything. What I did understand is that there was something very terrible. The older I get the more I feel the fear and pain of ordinary people captured in Moscow in Dubrovka and in Beslan.

September 16, 2020 17:15

The development of modern technologies has given people a chance to watch not only openings of film festivals and MTV rewarding ceremonies on the air, but also to be frightened speechless witnesses of terrible acts of terrorism

My [email protected], Happy Month of September you. Two months into voting and commenting stage in the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship competition, I really appreciate every one of us for how far we have come in this competition and still going. Once more, in addition to my previous comments on your idea, I am again sharing an article from the campus competition on the need to focus on support each other ideas and projects with comments.

Comments are an important part of the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition. One single comment is the first step for getting involved with the Entrepreneurship Campus community.

They help the campus community to be more dynamic and interactive. They create bonds between the campus members and they can also be the ground for dialogue and even long lasting friendships. In our daily life, we all enjoy comments that other people leave on our posts, either in social media posts or in blog posts. A comment, even a smiley face has the power to makes us feel good.

But, in the case of the campus competition, besides the fact that comments make us feel good and confident, comments are really helpful, because they can also provide free advice to our ideas and projects.

Also as highlighted by a recent article in the blog section of the campus competition on the importance of comments, two out of the five points of the Personal Activity Indicator are the following
1. The entrant personal engagement among the Entrepreneurship Campus community by commenting and giving advice to other entries.
2. The number of meaningful comments the entrant idea and project has received from the online Entrepreneurship Campus community.

Therefore, we must think about comments as a tool that can bring value to the person that reads it. It is true that this is a competition, but our ideas and projects will continue their development even when this edition of the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition will end.

As a campus member, each of us would like to read meaningful suggestions and opinions about our specific entry. Hence, we on our part must post honest, unbiased, helpful, and unique comments on others projects and ideas. How

After reading someone else idea or project, you can express your opinion about the entry, congratulate the user for his or her initiative and efforts, or suggest something that would help the further development of the entry. Every single comment we post must be unique just like each of the ideas and projects is.

I hope this benefits our activities in the campus. In view of the above, I am requesting you to please consider voting and commenting on my idea Eduheal should you come online soon @ https://www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/26/17805/

September 15, 2020 14:34

Some will speak about specific advocacies. Others, by simply sharing aspects of themselves and their cultures, will foster connection and understanding. In the information age, the new batch of peacemakers will say that it chooses the Internet, blogs, and television over guns, bombs, and tanks

September 15, 2020 14:34

Each generation has its peacemakers. What this generation will see are peacemakers who will not only sow peace but amplify it across borders, empowered by media and communication technologies

September 15, 2020 14:33

It is clear that, in this information age, peacemakers are not those who remain silent in the sidelines for the sake of harmony. Bono does it with his music and anonymous writers in Iran do it with their blogs. It is a relief to know that, with media and communication technologies, there are several platforms for peacemakers to speak out

September 15, 2020 14:33

Because mass media and communication convey powerful images in an instant across the globe, it dictates that struggles are fought as much through propaganda, ideas and values as through conventional means, military or diplomatic.

September 15, 2020 14:32

Peacemakers of today and of the future have to capitalize on these tools to amplify the truth as loud as they can, across borders. Tony Blair, Britains former prime minister, aptly describes the new struggle:

September 15, 2020 14:31

What happens when media and communication technologies are used with evil intent? The result is disastrous. Media is, after all, just a tool. In the wrong hands, misinformation and hate speech can be easily spread

September 15, 2020 14:31

As for the students in Mindanao, Metro Manila is no longer embodied by soldiers who can turn them and their families into refugees in an instant. What students from both sides saw were children not unlike themselves. We can only hope that what began with that 30-minute video conference can continue on with a lifetime of understanding and truthful connection.

September 15, 2020 14:30

And as they did that, their teachers, parents, fellow schoolmates, and communities watched.I am certain that not a few lives were changed that day. For the students in Metro Manila, Muslim Mindanaoans in the south would no longer becompartmentalized into labels such as separatists or terrorists.

September 15, 2020 14:30

They talked about their favorite classes and fun extra-curricular activities. They talked about the conflict in Mindanao and what they thought about peace. More importantly, they talked about their first impressions of each other and how so much had changed after just 30 minutes of the video conference

September 15, 2020 14:29

I am inspired by the story of a youth organization in the Philippines which initiated a video conference between students from a school in Metro Manila and a school in Mindanao. Seeing each other for the first time on widescreens, a panel of student representatives from each school spoke to each other in real time

Media and communication technologies have exposed us to a wide and multi-cultural range of information. If hatred and prejudice is bred by ignorance, then it follows that information and understanding can bring about compassion and empathy

September 15, 2020 14:28

I celebrate the intimate connection brought about by media and communication technologies because it allows me to understand people and their cultures more. This is the same reason why I think my generation has a better capacity for bringing about a more peaceful world.

September 15, 2020 14:27

our decades later, despite the oceans between us, I have the benefit of knowing foreign friends better. I can easily direct them to the website of my favorite local band. They can, just as easily, tell me how their day at work went via instant messenger.

September 15, 2020 14:26

Thanks to the Internet, a computer, and a headset, our long distance talks just like friendship have remained completely free. Never before has media and communication technologies been as personal and encompassing as it is today

September 15, 2020 14:26

I met two of my closest friends at an international youth conference. Although the three of us went home to places with different zip codes, we were still able to talk to each other every week afterwards

September 15, 2020 14:17

Why is it that we can see Disney or Pogo channel all over the world but we cannot see the same love among different people in the world? If media plays an active positive role in highlighting simple truths of life, peaceful world will become a reality and not simply remain an essay topic

September 15, 2020 14:16

Everyone calls me a global citizen. I am proud of it. That is because I love Mexican and Chinese food. My best family holidays happen in Europe. My family is Indian and I live in America.Media needs to highlight the fact that it is not only technology that has to be global.

September 15, 2020 14:16

This is because Saibaba was very secular and he was like Martin Luther King who said don't judge people by their color but character. I am sure there are saints like Saibaba everywhere including Iraq and Bosnia or Russia and the media can tell us about it.

September 15, 2020 14:15

We can have a peaceful world if the media tells us stories of friendship, of compassion, of love and of trust between different people.Recently my family read about a Muslim saint. Saibaba, a holy and famous saint where 50,000 people visit every day at his temple was a Muslim but even today most of his followers are Hindus and Christians.

September 15, 2020 14:14

Hindus do not eat beef because they worship cow as holy. We should not laugh at them because there are historical stories and proof of how this worship came into practice. Muslims do NOTt eat pork. Christians eat turkey.

September 15, 2020 14:14

I know that a peaceful world can come when there are no wars. But there will be no wars only when there is tolerance, when we know that Muslims covertheir heads because of their history of the invasion. They wear robes not because they are jihaadis but because it is so hot in the Middle East.

September 15, 2020 14:13

Muslims think Christians are too forward thinking and they are very rigid about religion. However if we show that Christians and Muslims can be best friends and they have a lot of things in common between them, it will bring more tolerance. When tolerance comes, peace comes automatically

September 15, 2020 14:13

Till I had not gone out of New York, I had no clue of various cultures and various festivals. Media can make us more tolerant of other culture, countries and its people. If we know that it is perfectly normal for Muslims to pray in public or to dance with open swords during a Moharram procession, we will not be shocked when we see that for the first time

September 15, 2020 14:12

There is diversity all around. Media can help bring out the unity from the diversity and thereby making a peaceful world. For example, media can do stories of how a Muslim and Christian are best friends. How they celebrate Eid and Christmas together. I think television cartoons and animation films can tell us stories about how different countries and cultures are and make us appreciate it.

September 15, 2020 14:11

They are same. Only the way they think and behave is different. Also all of them have newspapers, television and radio. In some places like rural India, internet is still not there.

September 15, 2020 14:11

Wherever I have been in different parts of the world, language is different, colour of people is different, the way they eat, the way they pray is different. However all of them have two eyes, one nose, two ears.

September 15, 2020 14:10

India is the biggest democracy of the world. I belong to Gujarat a region where lots of people got killed some time back. The locals did not like them, because they were not following a specific religion. I love traveling and have family all over the world. I have been to Europe, Asian the Americas and the Caribbeans and many other places.

September 15, 2020 14:10

When I was in India I came to know the word communication and media. Also in India, everyone would ask me what I was. Me being a girl, being a human being was important but still people wanted to know whether I was Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jew, etc.

September 15, 2020 14:09

Till some time back, I did not know much about the role of media but then one whole year I spent in India. Till then I lived in New York. In India, I saw beggars for the first time. I saw how religion can divide people.

September 15, 2020 14:05

Whether the community has a common interest or not, as long as there is a feeling of innate acceptance of the other person, intercultural living and learning is possible. Ican guarantee this. After all, it is what has been shown to me again and again over the past two years.

September 15, 2020 14:05

I believe that my house is not an exception: it is something which is possible to build up anywhere. Indeed, there is another house in Maastricht which has been able to create just this atmosphere and successfully supports people suffering from cancer

September 15, 2020 14:04

For this it is important that people are able to view their opinions without being laughed at, but are taken seriously. This is what works: love and respect for the other person, open communication, and knowing that you are in a place where you as a person are accepted, regardless of your culture

September 15, 2020 14:03

During a workshop in Hungary I watched several of my house friends naturally bridge gaps between people they hardly knew by accepting who they were and taking an interest in them.

September 15, 2020 14:03

The ideas we share in our community extend further. The boy from Canada has started up an international student group focusing on sustainability and poverty. It has been going on for almost a year and has thirty members

September 15, 2020 14:02

Since starting up this house, we have come far. We have met many people. Some stayed for a while, some moved on. We took an interest in people, so interesting people came to us. Once an immigrant man from Suriname came to our house and talked to us about his life.

September 15, 2020 14:02

It is one of the hardest things to do for me liking someone for who they are, and allowing them to keep their opinion and listen to them even if I do not agree. Yet I am learning

September 15, 2020 13:52

I am more able to accept now that a person can have a different point of view from mine, but still a person I like and respect, even if we differ in opinions about headscarves and the death sentence

September 15, 2020 13:51

we talk about our feelings. The last part is especially important and contributes a lot to the open atmosphere in the house.Of course there are times of conflict. So many cultures cannot be together without the inevitable clashing of viewpoints. In those cases it was always important not to explode

September 15, 2020 13:50

During the recent troubles in Nepal we kept a close eye on the news and made sure our Nepalese friends knew we were there for him. The house cooks together, we talk about what is important for ourselves

September 14, 2020 21:23

My dear [email protected], I am happy for the journey so far for all of us. It is September and perhaps we are in the middle of this great campus. In view of this, I am using this medium to thank you for supporting my idea with your comments and votes. I want you to understand that your support is very important to me and the people my idea seek to serve. Once again, to add to all my other comments on your idea, I am sharing with you further tips on traits of being a successful entrepreneur and how to acquire them.

If you are pursuing a dream for becoming a young successful entrepreneur you should know that there is no given recipe for becoming like one of the famous persons that inspire and motivate you all the time. However, there are some characteristics, which successful people share, that can be considered as the main ingredients or the salt and pepper of champion entrepreneurs.
History has shown that some people were at the right time at the right moment, while entrepreneurs have confirmed something else. No matter what the moment was, the ones who took risks succeeded.

According to entrepreneur.com successful people have the following traits:
Determined, Not afraid to take risks, Confident, Constant learners, Know how to deal with failure, Passionate about their businesses, Highly adaptable, Understand money management, Networking experts, Great at selling and promoting

Meanwhile, investopedia.com shares a list that includes these traits:
Passion and motivation, Risk taking, Self-belief, hard work and discipled dedication, Adaptability and flexibility, Money management, Business and market understanding, Planning, Networking abilities, They include failure in their plans and They kind of doubt themselves

I hope you will derive some benefits from this.

Finally, I have voted and commented on your idea; please consider supporting my idea with your votes and comments @https://www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/26/17094/

Best of luck in your implementation.

September 14, 2020 18:09

I have learnt that you do not have to agree with another person about an issue, but that this does not have to change your perception about the person in essence. I am more able to accept now that a person can have a different point of view from mine, but still a person I like and respect,

September 14, 2020 18:08

Of course there are times of conflict. So many cultures cannot be together without the inevitable clashing of viewpoints. In those cases it was always important not to explode, but to talk calmly and respect the other persons opinion

September 14, 2020 18:07

We take an interest in one another, cook together and talk about what is important to us. During the recent troubles in Nepal we kept a close eye on the news and made sure our Nepalese friends knew we were there for him. The house cooks together, we talk about what is important for ourselves, we talk about our feelings. The last part is especially important and contributes a lot to the open atmosphere in the house

September 14, 2020 18:06

All of us had been exposed to many different cultures at one point. We brought with ourselves many ideas, many worldviews, many ideologies. But we all had something in common: the belief that although we were different, we could live together peacefully.

September 14, 2020 18:06

We all knew from the beginning that our house would be different. First of all, all of us came from many different countries. One boy had an Iranian and Finish background, another boy was Canadian but had spent two years living in HongKong. Then there were two Germans and I, an English/ German person who had previously lived in Belgium.

September 14, 2020 18:05

In Maastricht every student has his own room, and even if people live together in one house they live veryindividual lives separate from one another. I enjoyed seeing my friends, but even so I missed the familiarity of having a home together. So when four of my friends asked me if I would like to move into a house together with them, I jumped at the chance and said yes, of course

September 14, 2020 18:04

For the last two years I have been part of a very special community here in Maastricht. It is a beautiful town, full of old buildings and churches and history, with a nice atmosphere. The first year that I lived here I felt lonely.

September 14, 2020 18:04

To understand how people of different cultures can life together peacefully it is important to understand one thing: we are all alike. We laugh when we think something is funny, we cry when someone we love dies.

September 14, 2020 18:03

Everyone a change maker how is that ever going to work? I think this is something this group in particular would understand intuitively. People want to express love and respect in action, and we can trust them to be a change maker for the good. We have got to help build the institutional arrangements to make that possible. That is the management challenge of the moment. The people want to be contributors. And if we can let them, we have a great future and that is what I think we are all working on together.

Thank you.

September 14, 2020 18:02

Third, think about the institutions you care about. Take business. You have a large citizens sector that is now entrepreneurial and competitive, and it is growing much faster than business. Ashoka is now working in five different industries to demonstrate that when you take a business system that has worked separately from social system for three centuries, and you put the strong parts of each together, everyone benefits dramatically.

September 14, 2020 18:01

Second, think about the young people you know: the 12 year olds to 14 year olds. Are they being powerful now? Think about your niece or your nephew. If they are not, you should be worried about that as much as you would be if they were not mastering math or language, because this is actually more important. That is an immediate relevancy as I am sure everyone here cares about at least one young person. Ask yourself if that young person is being powerful, that is, being a change maker now.

September 14, 2020 18:00

It is catching up very quickly with business. So this is a great career, congruent with values, fast growth, wonderful colleagues, and almost no glass ceilings because the demand is so much greater than the supply. It is obviously a huge opportunity, not only for yourself but also for other people you may know.

September 14, 2020 17:58

In the OECD countries we are growing jobs as I said at 3 times the rate. In Germany we are the only sector that is net growing jobs since 1990, while business and government are shrinking. This is happening because the citizen sector has become as entrepreneurial and competitive as business.

September 14, 2020 17:57

So what is the relevancy of this historical change? This is the most wonderful career to move into. We are growing jobs at 3 times the rate of the rest of the economy. Just to give you a couple of statistics: in Brazil we grew from 5,000 citizen groups to a million from 1980 to 2000.

September 14, 2020 17:56

We are building a movement which is very powerful and very simple. You can find out more about it at Youth Venture.org or care of the Ashoka site. The goal is to have 20% of all young people in the world have this experience. That means that we will have a work force that is 20% changemakers 10 years from now

September 14, 2020 17:56

How many young people have the experience that they are encouraged, they are shown role models, they are helped to have their own idea, build their own organization and leave their middle school or high school changed initiating a tutoring service, a dance academy, a virtual radio station or whatever? We know that almost all the Ashoka Fellows around the world had that experience as teenagers.

September 14, 2020 17:55

By the time children become young people, which is roughly 12, they then have to move on and master the next level, which is empathy, teamwork and leadership together. You do not master these things in theory. You cannot read a book. You have to actually do it. This is like riding a bicycle except much more complex.

September 14, 2020 17:44

Marys example is the first step. You are going to have children be marginalized for life unless they master applied empathy. No one wants to play with someone who is going to cause harm. It does not matter what technical skill they have, they are out of the game.

September 14, 2020 17:43

I was encouraged to take initiative. That is not what happens to most young people. Whether in the classroom, work, sports, or extracurricular activities, the message is, We adults are in charge of everything, thank you. You are pretty irresponsible and incompetent. Stay out of the way. Now it is the same debilitating message that colonial people got, that women used to get, that in the United States the African Americans used to get before the civil rights movement.

September 14, 2020 17:41

Stay out of the way. Now it is the same debilitating message that colonial people got, that women used to get, that in the United States the African Americans used to get before the civil rights movement.

September 14, 2020 17:38

What is the single biggest barrier of getting from here to there? It is how we treat young people. Elite young people have always been treated in a different way from everyone else. Certainly when I was growing up, I got the message that I was going to be a competent person.

September 14, 2020 17:37

I am going to stand up and do it. They are local changemakers. They become role models. Some of them will become the next generation of major entrepreneurs. So that is a very core mechanism.

September 14, 2020 17:36

The one sustainable key factor for success is the proportion of changemakers in a community. That is true for a company, a city, a country, or an ethnic group. Think ahead 5 or 10 years with that logarithmically increasing rate of change. If any institution you are a part of or care about is not moving in this direction, it is in troubl

September 14, 2020 17:35

Let me ask you a second question. What is the key factor for success for any human institution? The advantages of technology and marketing are getting shorter and shorter and shorter. Their half lives are shrinking as the rate of change accelerates.

September 14, 2020 17:34

Ironically that means that the institutions become more hierarchical because they are so dependent on the few people with those skills. This does not work for individuals or institutions. We have to make it to an everyone a change maker world. This is a completely different world than the world of the last 12,000 years. We have to manage differently at all levels, and that is a challenge for everyone.

September 14, 2020 17:34

What is wrong with the society that says only a few people are going to be brought up and given the tools to be changemakers? What is wrong with us in managing our institutions that way? This is a huge transition we have to make, and this is the essential challenge

September 14, 2020 17:33

And more importantly, what is the thing that people want to do in life more than anything else? We want to give and receive love and respect. That is not something you do in theory its something you do in action, and change making is the highest level the highest opportunity to give love and respect. If you do not have the ability to do that, how much have we deprived you of?

Now, with that, let me expand on what I said before. An individual who is not able to cause change in a world where change is the dominant factor is not going to be a player. You may be a highly trained engineer or a doctor, but if you do not know how to deal with change you are going to be at sea increasingly year by year.

September 14, 2020 17:31

The point of this is we have to use judgment in making these choices. Our field is constantly being pressurized to make the mistake that business made of becoming too numbers focused. That is a mistake we do not want to make. This is discipline judgment 5 steps, different people, and clear criteria. We are able to get these results year after year in over 70 countries in every imaginable subject matter and they are very stable.

September 14, 2020 17:30

We do an evaluation of the results at the end of 5 years. Once Fellows have had a chance to have an impact, 97 percent are continuing full time pursuing their vision, 90 percent have had independent institutions copy their idea, and over half have already changed national policy. That last measure is more significant than it seems because a lot of Fellows do not need to change national policy to succeed.

September 14, 2020 17:29

Third, once the idea has been demonstrated once Mary has done this in two schools will other people say, Oh, that is a really good idea. Let me try that? Does the idea have legs, and if so, how far will it go? And finally, ethical fiber is absolutely critical, and that is the last part of the story about Rodrigo.

September 14, 2020 17:28

hen there are four other qualities. First, is the person creative in goal setting and problem solving? Second, are they entrepreneurial? Are they unable to stop unless they have changed the whole society in an important way? That means they focus on the how tos as much as the vision, and they are open to listening to anything that needs to be changed and intuitively over time they keep changing it until it works

September 14, 2020 17:28

These two examples I think will give you a sense of what a social entrepreneur is and what some of the characteristics are. If you were an Ashoka nominator or on the selection panel, we would train you in these qualities. Is there a new idea that will change the pattern in the field at least on a continental level? If not, it is not worth the time.

September 14, 2020 17:18

They knew that he was a person of very good ethical fiber. That is the transaction. Every entrepreneur is always asking people to do completely unreasonable things in conventional terms, and people do them because they know of that marriage and they trust the person.

September 14, 2020 17:17

Well these masses of computers sailed through customs. Now, what is going on here? Could you walk into the Japanese Air Force and ask them to do this for you? I would have a little trouble with the American Air Force, I can tell you.

September 14, 2020 17:17

Then he went to the Brazilian Air Force and said, You have warehouses because you buy all these military equipment from the U.S. Let me store my computers for free at your warehouse. By the way, would you please fly these computers to Brazil for free for me? This was a time Brazil was in the middle of what they call the informatics policy. Brazil was going to make its own computers and so no computers were supposed to come in

September 14, 2020 17:16

Now let me tell you a story about Rodrigo. He is about 6 and 7 tall and about 3 inches wide. He arrived in Washington in his 20s with this idea. His English was to say the least spotty, and he walked into the Inter American Development Bank and said, Please give me your computers, and they gave him their old computers, which were very valuable.

September 14, 2020 17:15

With that simple insight, here is the curve of the growth of his organization in terms of number of students graduating. As you can see, it is gone off the top of the chart 3 years ago. He is now in 15 countries in Latin America and Asia. I chose this example in part because he actually came to Japan and has demonstrated his work here because for Asia he needed Japan to provide the supply of second hand computers.

September 14, 2020 17:14

His model for addressing the problem, the digital divide, asks the communities to do 95 percent of the work, to organize the space, to raise the money, to organize recruitment of students, and to hire the teachers. All he had to do is provide the software, some training and some old computers.

September 14, 2020 17:14

This is before there was a phrase the digital divide. As an entrepreneur, he saw patterns that were not the patterns of the stereotypes. He saw that the communities were competent, that they could organize, and that these were good people. He also saw that the students had plenty of motivation and they could learn if they were trusted to learn.

September 14, 2020 17:13

The second case is Rodrigo Baggio, who is a Brazilian. He loves computers like all people of his generation, but unlike most of his peers he went into the slums, the favelas behind where he lived and he saw that the young people there, although highly motivated, were being left completely behind.

September 14, 2020 17:13

You can imagine the children get into this very quickly. It has a huge impact. The Canadians actually have a measurement system for bullying. After those 8 hours, bullying rates come down and stay down. You could see that this is an idea and approach that could work anywhere in the world and Mary is out to make it work everywhere in the world. So that is Case One.

September 14, 2020 17:11

What is her idea? She asks only for one hour a month for 8 months of a class, and the younger the children the better. She brings an infant less than one year old, plus mom, plus a green blanket. The infant is the professor. The infant sits on the green blanket. The students have the responsibility, not the teacher, for figuring out what the professor is saying and later what the professor is feeling.

September 14, 2020 17:11

So she knew it had to be a very simple idea. I will jump ahead to the results. Three years later, she has gone from 2 schools to 2,000 schools in Canada; New Zealand has adopted the idea; and she has been approached by the Government of Japan for help.

September 14, 2020 17:10

If you are an entrepreneur, you do not want to solve it just for the children in your class. You want to change the whole society. Well, how do you change the education system? Everywhere in the world, it is notorious for not being the most innovative or fast moving sector

September 14, 2020 17:09

Let me start this part what is a leading social entrepreneur by asking you a question. What is the most powerful force in the world? I think it is pretty clear that it is a major pattern changing idea, but only if it is in the hands of an entrepreneur. It is that combination that moves the world more than anything else. So let me then challenge you to see some of the patterns as I introduce these two stories.

September 14, 2020 17:08

Ashoka has roughly 2,500 of the worlds leading social entrepreneurs on every continent and every subject matter as our core community. These Ashoka Fellows are role models and mass recruiters of changemakers, which is key for their success.

September 14, 2020 17:07

Before doing that I would like to introduce two social entrepreneurs to you very concretely because social entrepreneurship is very much at the cutting edge of this revolution and understanding of it is important. It will also help explain where our understanding comes from.

September 14, 2020 17:06

So I hope I will be able to expand on that insight: how is this happening; what are the barriers; what are some of the key answers to those barriers; and then move on to what the implications of this change are for us as individuals, for others we care about, for the institutions we are a part of, and ultimately of course for society

September 14, 2020 17:06

That is the transformation from the agricultural world, which produced very small surplus that only allowed very few people to be players, to a world where everyone has to be changemaker. If you imagine 5, 10, 15 years ahead in the context where the rate of change is accelerating logarithmically after 12,000 years of being relatively flat, you can just imagine how cruel it is for anyone not to be a changemaker.

September 14, 2020 17:05

The house cooks together, we talk about what is important for ourselves, we talk about our feelings. The last part is especially important and contributes a lot to the open atmosphere in the house

September 12, 2020 14:43

We take an interest in one another, cook together and talk about what is important to us. During the recent troubles in Nepal we kept a close eye on the news and made sure our Nepalese friends knew we were there for him. The

We kept an atmosphere of love and trust. Because of this, our house began to grow. Now a Nepalese boy lives with us, a girl from New Zealand and a boy from the US. Guests frequently stay in our living room.

September 12, 2020 14:42

But we all had something in common: the belief that although we were different, we could live together peacefully. Together made sure that every person was accepted for who he or she was, was loved for what he or she brought into the community.

Then there were two Germans and I, an English/ German person who had previously lived in Belgium. All of us had been exposed to many different cultures at one point. We brought with ourselves many ideas, many worldviews, many ideologies.

September 12, 2020 14:41

We all knew from the beginning that our house would be different. First of all, all of us came from many different countries. One boy had an Iranian and Finish background, another boy was Canadian but had spent two years living in HongKong

September 12, 2020 14:40

but even so I missed the familiarity of having a home together. So when four of my friends asked me if I would like to move into a house together with them, I jumped at the chance and said yes, of course

September 12, 2020 14:40

For the last two years I have been part of a very special community here in Maastricht. It is a beautiful town, full of old buildings and churches and history, with a nice atmosphere. The first year that I lived here I felt lonely.

September 12, 2020 14:39

These are basic human emotions which (almost) every person shares and which are instantly recognizable acrossall cultures. Sometimes it appears as though our differences are greater than our similarities. It was this bias that my friends and I sought to overcome with our project.

September 12, 2020 14:39

To understand how people of different cultures can life together peacefully it is important to understand one thing: we are all alike. We laugh when we think something is funny, we cry when someone we love dies

September 12, 2020 14:38

I know that my project is just a small step to improve the world, but if everyone would also take a small step, then we could even reach the sky

If more young people would take the initiative to organize an event like this in their own communities, it would help a lot to have a better understanding between young people from different backgrounds.

September 12, 2020 14:37

At the end of the festival everyone was very positive about my project. They even made plans to organize the multicultural festival next year again. A lot of sponsors offered their financial aid for next year. We have even formed a group of young people who will want to help to organize this event next year

September 12, 2020 14:36

It was a very exciting contest, and everybody had a lot of fun. The winner was a girl from China, she had really good moves. She won a collection of music from many different countries and cultures

September 12, 2020 14:36

We had young people from Morocco who learned Dutch people dance their typical dances. We chose four very different dances from around the world: samba, Greek dance, Indian dance and African dance. There were a lot of people who wanted to participate in the dance contest.
