POTABLE WATER FOR FIVE MILLION

A-ensongas 5 Million for Water (5MW) project is born out a great desire to make water available, accessible and affordable to disadvantaged people in Africa, starting from Ghana. The direct and indirect objectives of the project include: - Provision of clean drinking water to 5million disadvantaged Ghanaians'. - Reduction of water-related illness and diseases among vulnerable people - Contribute to save the future of vulnerable children - Job creation for women and youth through Snail breeding and water supply - Contribute to improved nutrition of the Ghanaian population and the world at large through high quality healthy snails. Our innovative approach of connecting 5MW project to the untapped heliciculture industry in Ghana will maximise the success of the project. Our project takes a market-oriented through our cooperation with global experts in the industry to leverage latest the technology in the breeding of snails and also to assure ready local, sub-regional and global markets for our produce. This approach is different from the unscientific approach that has been traditionally adopted by snail farmers in Ghana with little success. Having determined the objectives and scope of 5MW, the following are key activities of the project for the short term: - Training on snail breeding best practice in cooperation with an international snail consulting firm - Mobilization of initial resources for heliciculture land, capital, technology - Selection of site and testing of soil for breeding to ensure high productivity - Selection of snail types/varieties for breeding to ensure we are producing to the requirements of our buyers - Incorporation/registration of A-ensonga as a foundation - Staffing for the management of snail farm - Marketing of produce for revenue generation - Profiling of vulnerable people in Ghana on regional basis - Contracting water consultants - Construction of merchandised and hand bore holes - Commissioning of completed projects
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The idea of potable water for 5million to be funded through proceeds from the snail farming project would contribute significantly to SDG 6: clean water and sanitation; SDG 8: Decent work and Economic growth. 5MW Project will deliver the following impacts to society: - Clean drinking water to 5 million people in Ghanaian within 5 years, - Reduce water related illness and diseases for One (1) million households, - Contribute to save the future of some 2.5 million, - Generate employment for 50 women and youth in the both snails and water supply value chains. The indicators to measure our success include - Number of people provided with merchandised and hand bore holes. - Number of communities provided with clean drinking water - Number of Children who benefited from 5MW - Number of direct and indirect jobs created for women and youth. - Return on investment of 35% on the snail business. - Expansion to cover 2 additional countries in Africa within 5 years.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
A-ensongas business model is simply to build a high technology snail breeding business and reserve/dedicate 100% profits to the provision of safe drinking water to vulnerable water. The business will focus on becoming a leading snail breeding business through innovative methodology and dedicate its annual profits to provision of safe drinking water in Ghana and West Africa. Our initial sources of financing shall include the following, contributions from stakeholders, family and friends, crowd funding, Angel and Court Investors etc. However, the sustainability of the project will run on the ploughed back profits from the snail business. A 100% profits will be reserved and dedicated to the provision of clean drinking water. Major collaborators include other snail breeders, local and international snail buyers, government, communities, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), non-governmental organisations, corporate organisations, churches etc.
Kenndicta A-ensonga Ajene is 25 years of age. She hails from Upper East Region of Ghana, which is one of the poorest region of Ghana with a population of about 1,046,545 people. She is passionate about helping vulnerable people especially children, youth and children. As a result Kenndicta has made personal donations of water bottles and food items to Nungua Childrens Home in 2019. Teshie Orphanage and Future Stars Orphanage in 2020. Her top qualities include selling skills, persuasion and networking, influencing skills, entrepreneurial flair, innovative business sense, brand awareness, high energy level etc. The most outstanding quality of her is her strong personal values of commitment and persistence. She holds a bachelors of science degree in marketing at the University of Ghana (2017). Since graduating she has worked at Asset Mark as a marketing officer. She currently works as a Business Operations Officer. Throughout her undergraduate study, Kenndicta was introduced to various courses in marketing and Entrepreneurship and is greatly abreast with various course techniques and their structure in Marketing. Thus, she is well prepared to deliver on Potable water for Five Million and make a significant contribution to Ghana and the world. Her primary career objective is social entrepreneurship and she intends to leverage on social entrepreneurship to offer hope to millions of children, youth and women.
