Felixteris (Elder Job Searching App)
Published on July 20, 2020 um 10:22
Explain your idea in details:
Despite such rapidly growing elderly population, elders are often excluded in society in terms of job opportunities mainly due to their age. Also, in terms of job searching, while young people can easily look for jobs by utilizing modern technology, such as mobile apps or websites that offer job searching functions to their users, elders must typically rely on more conventional means of job search such as physical job hunting. As a solution, I thought of developing an app called Felixteris that is specifically designed to help elders look for certain jobs that people of any age can do. Such jobs include: a garden keeper, a petsitter, a parking attendant, etc. An important aspect I have noticed about those jobs is that they are all simple jobs that the young people do not have much advantage over the elders, and, therefore, at least for the jobs offered to them within the app, elders do not have to compete as much with young people and worry about losing job opportunities to them. Unlike modern job searching apps and websites that are too complicated for elders to use, Felixteris is going to be as simple as possible in terms of its features and -- in case of elders struggling to use the app -- will be advertised in a way that encourages children of the elders help their parents learn how to use the app. Most importantly, this app guarantees benefit for employers as well as the elders since the app allows employers to hire elders for lesser cost than the cost to hire young people for certain jobs that people of any age would perform at similar skill level.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
First, the app achieves SDG #1 because the app can possibly help those who are living in extreme poverty get out of their situations by finding jobs through the app that pay them sufficiently to improve quality of lives they are living. Second, the app achieves SDG #8 because the app provides inclusive job opportunities to those that are commonly discriminated and excluded -- the elders.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
For the app's revenue model, I have so far came up with 3 ideas. First, collecting fee from companies for the app's registration as the app does the job of efficiently finding suitable employees for them. Second, collecting fee from employer users for having to purchase a product within the app that makes their hiring post more exposed within the app, raising the chance of more employees applying. Third, collecting fee from employee users for having to purchase a product within the app that makes freelance employees' profiles more exposed within the app, raising the chance for them to be hired. And, there are many more in-app product ideas to come. Estimated cost for initial development of the app would be minimum $2300 with $2000 of development cost and $300 of app maintenance cost per year.
My name is Oliver Kim. I am from South Korea, and I am 17 years old. I am currently attending boarding school in North Andover, MA called Brooks School. I came from a highly-motivated family in which most of its members either own a business or play a big part of other's business. My main motivation for participating in this idea competition hosted by Entrepreneurship Campus is because I wish to launch the business with the prize provided to the winner of the competition. I want to gain incredible amount of wealth in a way that helps benefit the world as well as myself, and it is all to gain freedom to do whatever I intend to do in my life. The business, Felixteris, I will be launching will significantly help current rapidly aging society because I believe it is the most practical and realistic solution to age discrimination in terms of job opportunities while also guaranteeing no loss for business owners.
