Smart Communicator for blind, deaf and mute people
Explain your idea in details:
According to WHO, 285 million people are estimated to be visually impaired worldwide and 45 million blind individuals world-wide and according to NAD, 18 million people are estimated deaf-mute in India. In India, these people are facing many problems due to various reasons. One of the biggest problems faced by these people is communication in day to day life for which currently there is no optimal solution in the market. Only 250 certified sign language interpreters exist throughout the nation which comes to a ratio of 1:7200. Projects/Devices like gloves cant be affordable by normal people due to high cost. Smart Communicator is an Artificial Intelligence(AI) based web-application for blind, deaf-mute people, which offers low-cost, superior approach and easy to use solution for communication. It includes: 1) For deaf-mute people Audio/Text to Sign language and Sign language into Text/Speech: The framework provides a helping-hand for speech-impaired to communicate with the rest of the world using sign language. The input will be given in form of Text/Audio to the web-application and after submitting input, the video of sign language will be shown to the deaf-mute people based on input. 2) For Blind Smart Reader and Voice based E-mail and calling System For reading, it will accept a page of printed text book, producing an image document. Once the image is preprocessed, it will be converted into digital text document. Finally, the text is readout by text to speech conversion. This document can be downloaded and later converted to speech and read aloud to the user through a speaker. 3) Augmented reality to improve their education Deaf-Mute people learns many things by watching images/videos but to improve this, AR gives real life experience in the classroom, changes the way they learn, improves their visualization and understanding, increases teacher s efficiency
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
People with hearing and speech imparity have a difficult time communicating with other people, since most individual does not understand sign language. This application can help them to overcome this day to day dilemma that they face. They can simply use this application to communicate with others in normal way. They will be able to carry this application anywhere and can converse with anybody. This will help them greatly be better fit in the community. Smart Communicator targets the visually impaired, Deaf-mute people who can read, communicate from all ages and educational degrees. It aims to give these people a near equal access to information as able-bodied. This application will have a significant impact on the life of these people. Implementation of this application in various public places will be very helpful for the people that have hearing and speech imparity. If the impaired person does not have the application, still other individuals can communicate with them in these places. Such public places can be hospitals, banks, malls because such places have large number of visiting individuals. The application can also be integrated by companies and other business bodies. This step can financially help hearing and speech impaired people. It will open many job opportunities for them and break many limitations that they had in the past. This application will also help to improve quality education through Augmented Reality (real life learning experience).
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Smart Communicator for blind, deaf and mute people is a social startup, it offers conveniences, affordability, comfort-ability, and it fulfills a crucial continuous need and right of reading, communicating and learning. Use of Technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing, Neural Networks, etc. will help to implement this idea and to achieve the SDG goals. To implement this idea, I will need the help of some experts in these areas. At Initial Level, There will not be a need of finance sources as it is a web-application which will be completely Develop with Open-source Softwares. Deployment of this idea in real life will surely have a huge impact on the lives of roughly 1.8 million impaired people and also the lives of their close ones. It will improve the current situation of the impaired community and maybe help them for greater good and give them a hope which many of them might have lost.
Hi, my name is Sanket, I am 18 year old and pursuing Diploma in Computer Engineering from Mumbai. My primary interest lies in the field Machine Learning, IoT, Data Science, App Development, AI. I also like to do online training courses from various platforms like Internshala, swayam, etc. I am thinking on such ideas and more research and development in the field of computer engineering and innovating new things of it to solve major problems faced by society.
