Explain your idea in details:
Thrift Bank is a social enterprise which collects a donation of second-hand stuff such as clothes, shoes, bags and books. Thrift Bank will clean, iron, and use eco-packaging to resell the donation so that the price will be affordable. This idea gives advantage to the both parties, the donator and the customer. The donator will feel satisfied because they can make a value of their second-hand things. And the customer will get a good product with affordable price. The income will be divided into three sections: First is donation. 50% of the income will be using to finance the street children. Second is operational. 30% of the income will be using to operate the enterprise for the cleaning product, picking up the stuffs from the donator, packaging and delivering the order. The third is investment. 20% of the income will be saving to buy the fixed asset such as washing machine and flatiron. Short term goal is to be a social platform that sells unused stuff to help street children to school. Long term is to be an independent community that can make a social venture to give a scholar to street children who wants to go to school and help jobless single woman to get a job as a crew to handle the washing and ironing. The main activities are: 1. The volunteer of Thrift Bank will pick up the donation then wash it, take a picture of the donation, post it on Instagram and other social media platforms and pack it aesthetically (plastic free). 2. If the stuff is sold, Thrift Bank must inform the donator about the income and the allocation of it. 3. After 1 month, all the income will transfer to community that helps street child.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Thrift Bank expects to be a social venture that helps both parties. For those who have things that cannot use anymore, they can donate to make value of those things. They will be satisfied. On the other hand the customer can buy affordable qualified stuffs with aesthetical eco-packing. In addition, he customer will be happy and satisfied because they can buy and donate at the same time. Furthermore, the income will be used to help street children, homeless people, jobless single women and elders. To fulfil this target, Thrift bank will ensure to run in the right corridor. It means every month Thrift Bank will make a report to donator about how much the income that we get and what the income is used for. So that the donator will put their trust and the social activities can run smoothly.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Thrift Bank is made for helping them who have unused items to make it more value, people in need such as street children, jobless single women and elders who still working in the street. This social venture is similar to general bank which accepts deposits, in this case are clothing, pants, bags or shoes, from donator and creates a demand for those who need affordable stuffs. But the deposits from donator is expected to have 30% defect maximum. The financing source is from the donator, companies and well built community that have networking with the owner. The proposal of funding will be sent to companies and community to make collaboration. Furthermore, the owner of Thrift Bank had internship in Bank Indonesia (Bank of Indonesia that controls monetary in Indonesia), so Thrift Bank can make a proposal for funding and support in CSR (company social responsibility) Program of Bank Indonesia, because back then, the owner of Thrift Bank also handled the CSR for social community and micro, small and medium enterprises. If the collaboration with Bank Indonesia is made, so Thrift Bank will get access to (almost) all financing institutions in Indonesia.
Hello, I am Rahma Febrianti, 26 years old, I live in Indonesia. I graduated in 2019 and get my bachelor degree in Sharia Banking. I have passion in economy and education. Currently, I teach in an educational course as science teacher. In 2016 when I worked in Kumon Sudirman Palembang, I applied for GOI Peace International Essay Competition for Education and got an Honorable Mention. This achievement make me want to do more for education so in 2017 I joined a community Save Street Child Palembang that concerns about street children who cannot go to school for the sake to earn money for their family. So, we teach them every Sunday afternoon. In 2018 we make a scholarship program; this program was successful to some children to finish their elementary school. This whole situation makes me realize how important we are, as a youth, to make a small step forward to bring a positive change to our surroundings.
