Grain post harvest technology
Published on April 12, 2021 um 22:11
Explain your idea in details:
Grain post harvest technology aims to 1. Sustaining the quality of harvested cereals and grains from farm to the markets 2. Ensure its quality by Freeling them from aflatoxins 3. Enable farmers to save time and money. 4. to educate farmers reliable technics of grain handling and storing to sustain their quality 5. providing mobile grain dryer, threshers and winnowing machines 6. Make sure that farmers store dried grain in the suitable rooms/stores and can't be spoiled with moisture 7. At the end farmers will provide healthy grains and cereals to the markets of processing plants of both human foods and animals. 8. Creation of decent jobs to project promotor's families, relatives, neighbors and others.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The targets of this project is to ensure the quality of grains and cereals supplied to the markets. Here, consumers will be secured that they are going to consume healthy foods. The second animal feeds producers will also be sure of what they deliver to the market, free from aflatoxin. The project targets farmers who depend to natural sunlight, they spend much time by handling them; exposure to the sunlight, movement of taking them in and out of store, depending to hangar, and so on. All those farmers will benefit from dryer, threshers and winnowing machine to speed up post-harvest activities. Number of farmers who will receive the service at fair price and reduction of grains' tons lost at yard will decrease. The success of this project will be evaluated according to the baseline data (grain harvest, loss, cost of manpower, post-harvest handling time, aflatoxin prevalence's). All cited parameters will be compared to the current one during the implementation of the project idea.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Grain post-harvest technology will serve directly farmers. Cereals and grains (maize, sorghum, rice, beans, soya beans and peas) primary producers will bring harvest to the yard for drying, threshing and winnowing. They yard will be nearby farmers with electricity. The idea will be financed as follow: 1. 40% from project owner's saving 2. 40% from bank (loan) 3. 20% from grant. The collaborators will be government of Rwanda, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), Nyagatare district, MECMAR (Italy and Germany), INNECOS Rwanda Ltd and farmers themselves. The project will be collaborating with financial institutions.
Prosper RUTERANA is 33. He studied agriculture in Ex National University of Rwanda. He also pursued the professional agriculture training held in Israel (2015-2016). There, He learnt more about vegetables and fruits post-harvest handling. He worked for 4 years with dairy farmers who used industrial feeds (Rwanda-Nyagatare district). Those feeds were not properly handled from aflatoxins. The second, He was with corn farmers, they lack suitable methods of handling them and are attacked with fungi. He is motivated with this topic because He saw lot of grain lost at yard during drying to sunlight, threshing and winnowing. In additional, He have skills in manipulating grain and cereal post-harvest machines.
