WishMaker: Be Careful What You Wish For
Published on May 31, 2021 um 16:22
Explain your idea in details:
Despite numerous programs, people are unmotivated to recycle. It occurred to me to offer rewards or the ability to redeem an item in exchange for their participation in environmental rehabilitation. Coca-Cola established a sustainable packaging goal, as well as the World Without Waste initiative, with the goal of recovering 100 percent of their packaging. Unfortunately, the collection rate in the Philippines is low due to the lack of reverse vending machines. As a result, WishMaker, a reward-based incentive system, would aid in increasing the collection rate by allowing users to redeem items for free simply by recycling bottles they use or bottles found on the streets.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
WishMaker specializes in encouraging environmentally friendly practices. In this case, the importance of sustainable packaging will be highlighted, as well as how beneficial and necessary it is to switch to it. With this, more materials that are 100 percent recyclable will be used, reducing the carbon footprint and assisting in the establishment of a more robust environment in which both society and the community can thrive together for a more sustainable development for a brighter future. With WishMaker, the collection rate of bottles, particularly those made of PET materials, will increase, lowering the risk of pollution, which may cause climate change and, as a result, affect people.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The chosen market consists of smartphone users who are heavy soda drinkers beginning at the age of 18, and those who go to convenience stores like 7-Eleven. Finally, potential customers who want an item but are financially limited but willing to assist in recycling in exchange for the item. To keep the customers informed, there are various channels to be used: Paid Social Media Advertising, Promotional Materials, and Referrals. Referrals, download statistics, and site visits will be analyzed to determine which platforms or how long a user spends browsing the application, and a more appealing and refined strategy will be implemented to cater to them. The technology needed: Internet of Things, Electronics, Digital and Applications, Cloud Service, and Geolocation and Mapping. Capital from the company will be used as the source of funds; this is personal money from the owner to kickstart the application. Following that, a business loan will be considered for advertising the application and pitching it to Coca-Cola or other manufacturers. Following the acquisition of a partnership with a manufacturer, an investment will be made in the legal development of the application until its distribution to the market and service maintenance.
I am 22 years old and a third-year student at the University of Southeastern Philippines pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a major in Business Technology Management. I've participated in a number of hackathons and competitions both locally and internationally, so I can say I've had some experience, but I still want to learn more. Personally, I was unmotivated to recycle, which is why I came up with the idea. I want something I can't have because I'm on a tight budget, so I combined the two to create WishMaker.
