Neuron is an affordable battery electric vehicle project for all. Neuron aims to replace traditional Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEV) with Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) by producing cheaper BEV, thereby creating a higher demand over ICEV. ICEVs' are notorious for their negative impact on the environment. The advent of BEVs marked the beginning of a new era; clean energy, no pollution and other sustainable features. Although this movement lacks traction due to a simple reason; its not for the common man. BEVs are more expensive than ICEVs, they require time to be charged, electricity supply at home, facilities to charge at home and worries of running out of electricity on the road. According to an article published in the world electric vehicle journal, one-third of the cost of a BEV is the battery. This is where Neuron steps in, the BEV is designed to allow the user to continue replacing the battery as and when it is depleted (plug and play). Neuron hopes to cut down BEV production costs by separating the battery from the BEV by manufacturing it as a separate commodity. The Lithium-Ion batteries will be manufactured separately and sold to the customers on a rental basis or until depleted, at retail outlets or recharging facilities directly. The customer after renting, can plug the battery into the BEV and go about his/her daily routine. When the battery is almost depleted, the user will return the battery to the recharging facility, rent a recharged battery and the cycle continues. The depleted batteries will be recharged at the recharging facilities and are ready to be rented again by the customer.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Neuron aligns itself with 3 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations. The ninth SDG, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Neuron is poised to redevelop the transportation industry through innovation utilizing Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) to build a more sustainable industry. The eleventh SDG, Sustainable Cities and Communities. Neuron owing to its ability to function on renewable resources allows it to be decentralized creating self-sustaining communities in the remotest of regions. The thirteenth SDG, Climate Action. Neuron has the potential to drastically reduce the carbon footprint produced by Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEV), thereby will help revert the damage caused by decades of misused resources over time. Neuron works on the idea of utilizing removable rechargeable batteries, which will be recharged at facilities using renewable resources which are harder for the common man to access individually. These batteries will be recharged under strict supervision to ensure quality charging, thereby increasing their longevity. Neuron by undertaking the above-mentioned measures, will reduce the dependency on fossil fuels for energy and initiate the transition from the era of ICEV to BEV. This will ensure a drastic reduction in the production of greenhouse gases. A BEV produces an efficient 2 tonnes of CO2 for a distance of 135,000km (average km covered in a lifetime by a vehicle) a normal ICEV running for the same 135,000 km produces a whopping 55 tonnes of CO2. The ultimate goal of Neuron is to achieve an affordable, automated, sustainable and connected network of BEVs just like Neurons in a brain!

The following business model is the proposed business model for Neuron. Primarily working on a business to customer scheme (B2C). Concerning the kind of project and what it entails this project will be implemented city by city to ensure a proper network is set up and quality services are provided before expanding. For every business to run successfully, it will need to follow these aspects. KEY PARTNERS in our case which will be; Suppliers and production companies (Eg: Sanmina Corp. For motor, battery etc.); Local Governments partnerships will help with registration and funding of operations. Local retail outlets help in sales of batteries to customers. Clean Energy companies partnerships to ensure clean energy for the recharging of batteries. KEY ACTIVITIES of Neuron will be; production and design of BEVs, the development of the latest technology in BEVs, education and demonstration of BEVs to customers. KEY RESOURCES for the company will come from; branding, battery rentals, technology advancements in BEVs. VALUE PROPOSITIONS Neuron offers are; high-quality BEVs (B2C), Affordable BEV will be seen as a symbol of a sustainable future (B2C), Affordable yet state of the art technology for the common man. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS will be created and maintained through; Regular maintenance services (customer retention), test drives (customer acquisition), customer events (customer acquisition). MARKETING CHANNELS for the company will be through; online and print marketing, product showrooms, online distributions, television advertisements. CUSTOMER SEGMENTS; customers purchasing a mediocre yet more expensive ICEV (affordability), early adopters of new yet sustainable technologies. Catering to an audience from the upper-middle class, lower-middle and the working class. COST STRUCTURE; will be from research and development (Battery and BEV), variable production costs per unit, Neuron service centers, manufacturing plants. REVENUE STREAMS; primarily affects from the direct sales of BEVs, direct sales of spare parts, battery rental charges.
My name is Akshay Khumar and I am the owner of this idea, Neuron; Affordable Electric Vehicles for all. I am 22 years old and I reside in Bangalore, India. My schooling was done at Bishop Cotton Boys School, Pre-University at St. Josephs Pre-University College. Presently I am studying my bachelors in Architecture at BMS College of Architecture. Although this project is far from my field of expertise, architects are supposed to excel at problem solving and sustainability is a problem globally. The concept behind this idea is something that has always intrigued me and something I am deeply passionate about. This idea (Neuron) holds huge potential and could very well be the stepping stone to the next era in transportation.
