"learnoo" : community-based learning
Published on June 2, 2021 um 09:11
Explain your idea in details:
Learnoo is an educational startup that builds meaningful communities of collaboration and sharing in order to create small communities of interests that have common goals of pursuing knowledge. Because of the pandemic, more than 200 million children would be out of school, and only 60 percent of people would be completing secondary education in 2030. There is a lot of problems with the current framework of online learning. According to research, more than 79 percent of students identified a lack of motivation for online learning as the biggest obstacle. Coursera clearly illustrates this problem as statistics show that less than 12 percent of users actually finish a course. Online learning limits discussion, social interactions, and communicational skill developments. Most researchers found that online learning will continue after the pandemic. However, the learning framework needs a change. Learnoo hopes to solve this problem by providing everyone with a platform to form small online learning communities, effectively building a social learning platform that encourages formations of Communities of Interests. Learnoo supports both synchronous and asynchronous work as it provides both direct tutoring and asynchronous courses through pre recorded lessons. What sets Learnoo apart from other platforms is that it creates community driven students, encouraging them to learn, discuss, and share with their peers. The learnoo website/app would be easy to use and extremely effective. After installation, users would first create an account that provides basic information like name, age, and areas of interest. After registration, users can then explore the numerous communities that already exists or create his own community based on his interests! A community group has multiple features, like announcements, group discussion, online courses, and customized activities. We will also gamify the learning process by awarding points based on an activity indicator and the number of courses a user completes.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Learnoo uses innovative technology and framework to solve the problem of quality online learning. As everything on the learnoo platform will be free, we help significantly increase the access to education for everyone. At learnoo, we believe that education is not only about the required courses at school, but also about pursuing ones interests and passion. Learnoo provides a platform for passionate dreamers, who doesnt have the resources, to connect with likeminded people in order to foster a community of passion, discussion, and novel ideas. For example, an user can join or create a community for recycling household goods. This community would include pre recorded customized online courses that are reviewed by our experts at learnoo. The community announcements and discussion tabs will provide a place for users to share ideas and discuss ways to live a greener life by recycling. Users can create projects, nonprofits, or just learn and gain more knowledge by using learnoo. Our target goal for learnoo is UNs goal 4 (quality education) as we strive to provide not only a motivation for learning for people but a community for learners to enjoy and excel in. To measure the social impact of learnoo through statistics, one could look at the amount of users and communities to estimate learnoos influence on peoples lives. We also have the target goal of 10 ( reduced inequalities), specifically in the educational sectors. Our platform will be provided for free to anyone who is willing to discover a community with the intention to grasp new knowledge.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Learnoos business model has four core parts: value proposition, target market, market strategy, and financially sustainability. Learnoos target market is specifically high school, college, and young adults that wishes to gain knowledge through a community. Students will be incentivized to use our website/app as we provide a free platform for students to learn knowledge through our unique member-driven courses, discussion, and activities. To assess the value of product, we surveyed a diverse group of our target market at local high school and colleges using a google survey. The survey showed that more than 92 percent of our target market believed that community based learning is more effective than individual learning, which shows a high demand for our product. (survey attachment below). Our second survey with a short description of our platform showed that an overwhelming 85% of our target market responded that they would use our product. By analyzing our 4 Ps, our marketing channel will mainly focus on collaborating with educational nonprofits and promote our platform with events and social media to schools with our potential students. Our initial revenue will be mainly used for customer education and promotional events and advertising. We will use it to educate customers on the benefits of community based learning through social media, blogs, and our website. Our revenue stream is split into two parts: donations and ad revenue. A limited ad presence will only be distributed on on some parts of our website like blog and main page. After we expand, we can also generate ad revenue through our social media accounts. Our website will also include a donation page where companies and individuals can donate in order to help maintain our non profit. Most of our revenue will be spent on marketing and paying experts to pre-record our online courses.
Tommy Zheng is a 16 year old sophomore who is currently studying at St. Marks School of Texas in Dallas, Texas. Growing up in Shanghai,China, he witnessed huge wealth inequalities in communities, which resulted in drastic education gaps between different communities. In recent years, he has developed a strong passion create innovative solutions in order to increase overall access to quality education for everyone. Over the past year, he has worked with organizations across the world in order to spread knowledge through unique tutoring programs. He has also successfully launched a nonprofit project that connects native speakers to Chinese immigrants in an attempt to increase language proficiency. By taking numerous online classes this year, Tommy realized the huge problem with online courses and classes like coursera. Most people who signs up doesnt even finish the class (less than 12% completion rate), which contributes to the huge lack of motivation and productivity problem in online classes today. I hope to create a innovative space for sharing and collaboration, which encourages a desire for knowledge for communities.
