Rwanda had a population of 13.11 million in January 2021. Rwanda's population increased by 324 thousand (+2.5%) between January 2020 and January 2021 and with the increase in awareness on the various health impediment of meat i.e.(red meat), they have been an increase in demand of poultry meat. Poultry farming is a very lucrative and wide profit making business to venture into, with different aspects, some of which are , Egg production i.e. layer breeding, meat production (Broilers breeding), chicken breeding, poultry feed production, poultry equipment manufacturing. Poultry farming business is a capital intensive depending on the type of scale, location of the farm and the type of management technology used. Since there will always be a demand for it in the society. So therefore, business of this type can be viable in many locations across the world. With the right planning and execution, venturing into poultry business can be an interesting way to own a personal business. Poultry business is one of the businesses that can grow to become successful and profitable one if only you can identify the challenges and everyday problems encountered on the business and how to tackle them. So far as farmers and land owners substitute poultry farm waste for commercial fertilizers, they find that they can save substantially on fertilizers costs and provide the same needed macro and micro nutrients for plant growth. Additionally, using litter property provides the opportunity to recycle nutrients which can reduce the potential for surface and ground water from over application. The business will contribute simultaneously to Rwandans and Rwanda country entirely. It will contribute to the program of fighting malnutrition and stunting, generating high income and single handily solve the problem of under subscribed nutritional resource for households, the increased awareness on the health implications of red meat.

The poultry industry is well positioned to help accomplish the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals promising to transform societies, environments for the better. The poultry industry is in a particularly strong position to support sustainable development around the world, and is well positioned to work, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The long-term aspiration of the SDG initiative is to promote the health, welfare and prosperity of the world. Poultry are living, sentient animals that can be well integrated into many different types of urban and rural farming systems, where they benefit from and contribute to such systems and to the livelihood of households around the globe, with special emphasis on women. Furthermore, local production provides potential for production with minimum transport and, concomitantly, minimum usage of fossil fuels. Among the terrestrial animals, poultry has the best conversion rate of feed to human food and the smallest environmental footprint in terms of energy and water use per kg meat or eggs produced.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
In every project found. We have to pass through the financed process. This has to do with the starting of business, whether the personal income used grants or term loans from banks. The business of Gakenke Eggs for Citizen (GEC) will be financed through three channels as Grant of 70%, Savings of 27%, Debt of 3% The above detailed proportion will help to ensure the sustainability of the business and also reinvestment of the revenue to enhance the expansion of operating land. GEC will continuously emphasize on the reinvestment and answering the basic needs of the business. The management will look to the highlighting expenditures and necessities and solve them before others. But, the priorities are those which will enable the long life of the business and its profitability. The obtained money (grant and income) brought back in the business to make sure that the expansion of the business is done. The revenue will be used to buy new day old chick and land. It will also be spent to sustain the quality of produced eggs and meats and also by-product (poultry droppings). The main source of income that the company generates comes from the sales of eggs, poultry droppings and poultry meats.

Jean de Dieu MUKEZANGANGO is a Rwanda Citizen specialized in Agriculture because of his education and experience background. Mr. Jean de Dieu worked for different local organizations both with more than 3 years of experience in Agriculture sector. In entrepreneurship journey He tried to practice poultry farming since 2018 up to now. He graduated in University of Rwanda where he got Bachelor's degree in Animal Production.
