THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SOLAR POWERED HATCHERY FOR POULTRY FARMERS IN NGOR-OKPALA LGA.

Published on July 21, 2021 um 09:47

Explain your idea in details:

Rearing of birds is one of the lucrative businesses in Nigeria, because of the much demand for white meat and also because there is an embargo for the importation of frozen chicken into the Country. Rural dwellers especially local women and youth farmers, who would want to have parent stocks in their farms for poultry production in large quantities, and also to reproduce our local breeds or a cross, cannot do that because there are no hatcheries in the Communities. Thus, my idea will bring a solution to this nightmare as more chicks will be hatched for more Poultry farms to thrive for rural development on commercial bases.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

My idea is expected to contribute meaningfully and tremendously to the society for a better sustainable development program. More Poultry farms will erupt, more local breeds improvement as well as more employment opportunities to the people will be available. Also, other cottage industries that will depend on bye products will begin to emerge. The farmers will make more money, as poverty and hunger will be reduced in the Communities through my idea.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

The business will be run on a commercial grounds, we shall also have a Parent Poultry Farm , that will also supply fertilized eggs to the hatchery, while we sale the Day-Old-Chicks to the public. Also, other farmers who has fertilized eggs will pay a token for the hatchery maintenance and sustenance. Our funding shall be from our products sales, and also from grants through donor agencies who will want to partner with us. We also shall collaborate with all the players in the Industry within Our visinity.

Your profile

We have a lot of farmers in the rural Communities of Ngor-Okpla LGA, of Imo State of Nigeria, who rear and grow birds for subsistence and also for commercial purposes, especially the women and youths. Moreover, these local growing farmers have challenges of getting their crossed eggs hatched, for larger poultry businesses in the Communities. All Day-Old-Chicks stocked by Poultry Farmers in these localities are gotten from Ibadan, a town in a far away State- OYO State, where distance of about 800klm are covered, posing live treats to the chicks as well as to the Personnel involved in such long distance journeys. Thus, with the availability of the Sun in this localities, the use of a solar powered hatchery is the ONLY best alternative to provide a hatchery facility that can feed the Local Council, all day round the year, not depending on Electricity supply from the hydro powered energy our National grid depends upon. Therefore the need, which has generated this idea and project for more Poultry Businesses in the localities. Am 49 years of age, married, and a Graduate of Animal Production And Health Technology, as well as an Artificial Insemination Specialist. I am Motivated because i want to contribute to humanity, and as i have understood that i am destined for this call, am poised to be part of this developmental project for Agricultural reactivation and mechanization. I have been very committed to community development as i had once got an award as the best graduating youth copper in 1995 because of my idea and contributions to the society.
