Solar Kit Solutions
Published on August 2, 2021 um 18:03
Explain your idea in details:
Solar kit solutions seeks to solve the problem of energy access and efficiency. The business was born after I had a bad experience with a kerosene lamp which almost killed me and my one year old baby. 55% of the rural communities in Kenya are not yet connected to the national grid. Majority of households live below one dollar a day and cannot afford even the minimal amount for electricity connection. Businesses are closed early due to lack of proper lighting. Children do their homework at home using dangerous kerosene lamps and there is lack of water due to deforestation affecting water sources. Solar Kit will increase the uptake of affordable, reliable solar solutions and energy saving cook stoves to improve social well-being and economic development. Through community participation and mobilization and a series of workshops, mentoring and interaction, we shall enhance public and private sector renewable energy capacity. The solar lamps can be charged from solar panels as well as from public power and has a USB interface to charge mobile phones. It can be used on a radio and a television. It is cost effective trading at 10 to 30 US dollars per piece. The lamp can be lighted for upto 24 hours and recharged 1000 times. The lamp is durable and can last for more than 10 years with constant use. This eliminates maintenance cost and give a competitive edge in the energy field. We purchase our solar products locally from local wholesalers. We plan to import solar lamps directly from the manufacturer and later assemble the lamps locally. We target to use women with small businesses and boost their stock with the solar lamps.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The project aspires to reduce incidences of respiratory diseases among women and children by 85%. Reduce use of dangerous kerosene lamps by 90% thus saving 40 dollars per month per household. The project shall also create jobs among women and youths by 75% thus uplift socioeconomic standards of individual households by 85%. We project to have at least 500 local kiosks as distributors of solar lamps by 2024. This will not only impact the lives of women but also their families and that of their customers. Scaling up access to reliable and affordable modern energy services has proved an essential driver for sustainable economic growth in developing economies. It is undeniable that access to modern energy services can significantly contribute to efforts to eradicate poverty; increase food security; provide access to clean water; improve public health; enhance education, and income generation.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Through the available women groups, local authorities and due diligence, we shall identify beneficiaries of our solar lanterns in the communities. I shall organize training of women in batches of 25 due to available resources in the community. The training shall include sales and marketing, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, Records keeping and customer care. Out of the 25 women, I will identify beneficiaries of our solar products who shall then be distributors in their local shops. The project aspires to train 3000 women from two communities by 2024. We project to have at least 500 local kiosks as distributors of solar products. This will not only impact the lives of women but also their families and that of their customers. From the digital skills learnt, the women shall be able to use their smartphones to reach out to customers and grab online opportunities. They will be able to sustain their lives through the added stock in their small businesses. We shall then empower the community with appropriate advocacy skills and provide institutional platforms, so that they can effectively advocate for clean and renewable energy. We shall also influence, advocate and lobby the county government to develop by- laws and strategies that allows for adoption of clean and renewable energy.
I am very passionate about ending extreme poverty in our rural communities. I believe with good leadership and mentorship households can be financially independent and their economic status will change for the better. I am a visionary leader who creates an organizational blue print for achieving the organizational goals. I see beyond ambiguity and challenges. I embrace change and contrast.. I inspire and empower. I believe in transformation therefore I take initiative to look for solutions as a role model. I believe that if we work together we can eliminate poverty and create jobs.
