Furniture Bay

Published on August 30, 2021 um 09:26

Explain your idea in details:

The main objective of Furniture Bay is to contribute towards climate change and stop it by finding different innovative methods to minimize the cutting of trees for industrial purposes . I believe that by exploring and encouraging eco friendly methods of production , we can make the world a cleaner and better place . Trees are a vital source of life for every living organism and are being cut down at an alarming rate . If we are to save the Earth and pass on a cleaner and comfortable environment to the next generation , the conservation and planting of trees is one of the most important task to do . Trees are the providers of oxygen and clean the environment by utilising carbon dioxide . Keeping this in mind , I have created a company that upcycles furniture . A large amount of trees being cut are for the furniture industry and if we switch to upcycling old furniture instead of producing new furniture we can reduce the amount of trees being cut down drastically whilst maintaining the same levels of comfort and elegance provided earlier . Upcycling is a much more eco friendly way of production because it uses less raw material in the manufacturing . Furniture Bay targets multiple Sustainable Development Goals such as : 1)Life on land 2)Climate action 3)No poverty 4)Industry , innovation and infrastructure 5)Responsible consumption and production 6)Decent work and economic growth

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

My main target is to contribute to the fight against climate change by creating an eco friendly company in an industry where trees get down everyday in an excess . I will consider my business successful when other companies replicate my business plan not just in the furniture industry , but in all other industries as well . I will also feel like my company was successful when I am able to encourage and influence people to maintain eco friendly habits as I , alone cannot make a difference so great that its noticeable but together , we can change the world . I also hope to get the youth involved and walk them through the refurbishing process and show them how we can be a more eco friendly environment by making the right decisions and having the technical knowledge . I believe that the company can achieve its targets through the right support and encouragement . It is a good example of how we can all , through small changes , make a big impact on the environment for the better.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

I plan to set up shop in a warehouse and operate from there . Furniture Bay is a self sustainable company and the profits will be go towards running the company and the remaining excess will be donated to charity and some of it will be saved . There will be an online site for donations and placing orders . Revenue will also be generated through occasional promotions on the site .My plan is to start locally and then slowly go international . I will buy old and used furniture from shops that sell second hand furniture and rag pickers and refurbish it in my warehouse . If the company is doing well , I will hire people after some time and expand the business further . The company is a representation of good eco friendly habits that we can all incorporate in our daily lives . The message it represents is very powerful and I believe that when the cause is noble , everything falls into place .

Your profile

I am a 16 year old student who lives in Delhi , India . I study at Lotus Valley International School , Noida . I am a very ambitious student with a want to slowly but steadily change the world for the better and encourage unity amongst people . The thought of an uninhabitable Earth motivates me to come up with innovative ideas to help the environment . I have also been a part of my schools entrepreneurship summer vacation club and an intern for the K-12 invent club .

Upcycling is a very good idea which will have long term impact on environmental protection. It will lead to resource conservation, reduction of carbon footprint and costs of reforestation of timber forests felled for the purpose of making furniture. This will also result in jobs for discarded furniture collection and delivery to the workshops where that would be reused to build new salable products.

If this were to take the shape of an actual business, would it be self-financed, or would you seek loans, perhaps on account of it being also considered a social service? You could research grants and loans from the government to finance this as a start up, perhaps also a system whereby the owners of the old furniture are charged a nominal fee for recycling when they give away their furniture for's a superb idea with tremendous potential for scalability and scope! Congratulations and good luck!

Very Thoughtful & Innovative idea, though there is a big market of used furniture but upcycling the same & customising to ones requirement is not only Eco-Friendly & Pocket-Friendly too.

A start-up with such an idea can open many new avenues for future industries.

Wish you Good-Luck.

I think your idea is remarkable, and really thoughtful, as we all know about the deforestation...
But a bit of downside of this idea is, if you buy old furniture upcycle it, and then sell it, people might not want to buy it, because it's human nature to not like old stuff.

Even if it's looking new but subconsciously they know it's upcycled, they might not want to buy it.

By the way, great idea, best of luck on implementing it on a larger scale.
