FOOD & WEALTH CONCERN UGANDA - (FOWECO -UG)
Published on September 10, 2021 um 17:04
Explain your idea in details:
FOWECO UG stands for FOOD & WEALTH CONCERN - UGANDA which is an innovation at conceptual status intending to use new inclusive methods to address poverty, food shortage and poor education levels. FOWECO -UG is going to be an organic farmer who does not own any piece of land. There are lots of idle plots of land belonging to many poor people mostly in the rural areas of Uganda yet these landlords lack essential goods and services. FOWECO - UG will roll out an extensive scheme of Organic farming throughout Uganda using various sizes of land ranging from 1 Acre to100 Acres. This initiative will involve landlords with redundant plots of land due to the landlords inability to utilize them but in need of Products and Services from FOWECO UG. FOWECO UG will be a large-scale organic farmer who will have signed agreements to do farming on the plots of land belonging to various landlords throughout Uganda in exchange for Assets, Education cover and Farm produce. This idea is to be implemented through 4 channels: ASSET OFFER. Such as motorcycles, sewing machines, bicycles, solar panels, generators, hair dressing equipment, ox-ploughs, light milling machines, light motor vehicles, clothing and many more. EDUCATION COVER: Here parents who lack money to send their children to school will be given money for school fees to achieve the desired level of education. MODIFIED SHARECROPPING this is not exactly the same sharecropping that existed before, FOWECO will undertake all the costs of production and share equally the produce with the landlord. This is done after expenses are accounted for. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION : Any poor person without extra piece of land will still access our services and products through a special family arrangement. This is an absolute dream come true for the poor because all their wishes are satisfied easily.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Once the concept has been well articulated, understood and embraced by the poor majorly in the rural areas, in 1 year of the idea implementation, the deliverable will include increased food supply, improved income, over 6000 jobs and improved education levels. When the first year is successful, the subsequent years will have steady increase hence greater impact. Due to the fact that, undesired situations may occur, all the figures of land use are in regards to the worst-case scenarios therefore, are set at the minimum while the crop yields are estimated at their average per acre values. About 6700 jobs will be created as per the following calculation. Taking production of Maize or beans as the unit measure, if 4 people are employed to work on 1 acre per season, the plots of land to be used are estimated to be 400 acres per region. Every 5 acres of land will be managed by 1 field officer and FOWECO will employ 40 members of management and support staff to start with. (400 acres x 4 regions x 4 labourers) + 320 (1600/5) field officers + 40 management staff = 6760 jobs. About 2800 tons of beans or 3200 tons of maize will be added to the food supply in the country. 1 acre of beans on average can yield about 1800 kg while maize can yield about 2000 kgs. Using 400 acres of land for production of beans in 4 regions. 400 acres x 4 regions x 1800 kg = 2880000 kgs 2888 Tons of beans. About 360 children will be sponsored to attain higher levels of education. If the 400 acres of land are obtained from 400 landlords, it is estimated that around 90 of the landlords will opt for education cover.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The first step of this idea is to register it as a Non-governmental organization in order to operate liberally and legally. FOWECO will collaborate with the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development as well as other global development agencies like International Fund for Agricultural Development, International Development Agency and USAID to broaden the reach and gain trust from the target population. The initial capital required to off-set the operation of the Idea is generally big and therefore I will need an external financial assistance either in the form of donations or Credit facility. There shall be food stores located conveniently in all regions throughout Uganda to store food temporarily before sale. Prior to start of farming, FOWECO - UG will recruit and train young people from all parts of Uganda to ensure that these trainees fully understand the concept and be able to relay the same content to the public correctly. After the training, we will decentralize the functions of farm operations and administration to the 4 regions of Uganda where each decentralized office will start off with the awareness campaign for FOWECOs products and services. There shall be an agreement signed between the landlord and FOWECO UG which should be authenticated by the stamp and signature of the local council or government representative of that village. FOWECO UG will be self-sustaining because (a) Income will be earned from sales of the produce (b) Due to the total practice of organic farming, the costs of production will be low hence making significant profits. (c) In due course, FOWECO - UG will buy plots of land to embark on agroforestry & afforestation (d) The locals will copy the good farm practices for their own good.

At the moment, I'm the Head of Department for Safety and Security of Mestil Hotel and Residencies- Nsambya, which is one of the biggest Hotels in Uganda and I'm a Youth leader at Arua Diocese Youth Apostolate in Diaspora- Kampala. In September 2020, I got a 2 days long training on Organic Backyard farming that paid special attention to growing of Vegetables and short-term crops on very limited space. This Hands-on training was organized for the Youth by the Inter Religious council Of Uganda (IRCU) and it was sponsored by the United Nations Development Program. My greatest desire is to see communities to have enough and evenly distributed opportunities for livelihoods or developmental facilities and services. only 1 wealthy person in a community is not enough to bring a fundamental development in the community but if there are many rich people in a community, they will operate diversely hence creating variety of opportunities to accommodate all needs and forms of labour to benefit the entire society.

There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve >> The fear of failure. So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable. https://www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/32/21472/

My great pleasure Bruna.
Your comment has really really, strengthened me. There are times when you think you have brought an innovation yet it may not be. When someone says something about it like this you definitely get encouraged to work harder to improve where necessary.
Thank you.
i pray your idea goes a long way to gain good grounds in Uganda. It may seem as if you are just beginning but that is a beginning with a very promising futureand evolution. The am of curbing hunger by increasing agricultural yields. Agriculture in its self is a domain really worth exploiting as the soil always yields.
