Golden_Farm, the Internet of Things to feed the world

Explain your idea in details:

Agriculture is the cornerstone of most African economies, accounting for more than 30% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of many sub-Saharan African countries and contributing 40% of export earnings. The importance of agriculture to Africa's economy and growth is recognized, as about 70% of Africans depend on the agricultural sector for their employment and livelihoods. However, its potential is not yet fully exploited and it faces a multitude of challenges such as the demographic challenge (feeding 9 billion people by 2050), a climatic challenge (a global warming of 2°c that would reduce agricultural yields by 10%), the deterioration of food security, the digital age and technology. To this end, USD 35 billion are deployed annually in food imports in Africa while millions of farmers struggle to escape poverty. The main limiting factors for African agriculture are temperature, atmospheric CO2 concentrations, insects and pests, and rainfall. To ensure the prosperity of African farmers and agribusinesses and to meet the demands of the African consumer, we must create a vision for the future of our food systems. This is the scope of our initiative, a project idea characterized by the implementation of a clean farming technology concept, an agricultural Smart that provides a wide range of horticultural products in greenhouses with a precision principle in a circular economy movement where residues will be recycled. In addition to this, there is the cultivation and marketing of combustible mushrooms as a substitute for meat or fish because of its nutritional value. The crop residues will be transformed into compost in order to reduce our carbon impact.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

It is a project at the forefront of innovation in agri-food and agribusiness. It seeks to offer an image of the future where the farmer would exceed the constraints of the climate and the limits of the living to meet its food needs. This will be done by setting up a device that will allow him to control all the processes and systems of his farm through automated management. This system seeks to considerably reduce water losses (use of a drip system), a drastic reduction of phytosanitary products which contribute to the increase of the effects of global warming. It is part of the list of job providers needed to curb endemic youth unemployment. It also advocates equal opportunities because the different jobs to be done will be adapted to the competence and capacity of men and women. The devices used will allow to work in any season and to use real time information derived from the crops or weather conditions. This will push the producer to be more adaptive to the increasingly uncertain temporal variability associated with climate change. The company would be happy to receive young students or engineering students as part of their internship or thesis in order to contribute to the agricultural scientific literature.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

The strategies that will be put in place to allow everyone to benefit from our products with a business model is business to business, are the following: the sale to a trading partner, the collective marketing at the collection bridge, the sale edge field to intermediaries, the sale to a trading partner by contracting. On a large scale, we plan to sign contracts with supermarkets, hotels..., canvassing resellers. On the intellectual level, we plan to participate in fairs dedicated to agriculture, sign partnerships with agricultural institutes to host their students in training, make open days. In order to curb unemployment in our countries, we will participate in panels, seminars but increase training to promote entrepreneurship among young people. For financing, we intend to register on the platform of the General Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship of Women and Youth for a starting fund since our field is the first of the priority sectors of the said structure. The participation in entrepreneurial competitions and incubations will allow us to develop partnerships and research.

There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed.
Your idea is cool and practical!
