Our mission is to improve perceptions and interest in pursuing STEM education and related ideas in Africa.The major objectives to achieve include; Developing a solid knowledge base among students and enhancing their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Strengthening their ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills; Nurturing their creativity, collaboration and problem solving skills; Developing talents/experts in STEM-related areas to foster the development of Africa. Through school outreach programs; Through our School Outreach Program, we are looking forward at providing access to training and resources at the school level and include:Speaker Presentations, video presentations and study of real-world problems solved through robotics; Hands-on Robotics training; which introduces students to the basics of robotics Robotics Club, with mentors and trainers coming in once or twice a month. Through the Open lab. program; we are looking forward at establishing an open program that takes place outside of normal curriculum hours. Through dynamic representations for example computer simulations; Students learn or master STEM concepts through interacting with digital models, simulations, and dynamic representations of mathematical, scientific, and engineering systems. Through computational thinking; Students use technology to formulate and analyze problems and their solutions, reason abstractly, and automate procedures through algorithmic thinking using computers Application of the engineering design processes; Students plan, revise, implement, and test problem solutions using engineering design processes and appropriate support technologies. Through collaborative reasoning; Technology tools support students collaborative reasoning around STEM concepts, equalizing participation among group members and helping individuals and groups improve their ideas. Through immediate and individualized feedback; Digital tools provide students practicing or learning STEM skills or concepts with immediate and individualized feedback, beyond right or wrong
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
STEM caravan is aiming at creating critical thinkers, increase science literacy, and enable the next generation of innovators. Innovation leads to new products and processes that sustain our economy. This innovation and science literacy depends on a solid knowledge base in the STEM areas which are priorities of this solution. STEM caravan is looking forward to bridging the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields. STEM education breaks the traditional gender roles. In order to compete in a global economy. this is achieved since hands on practical skills are made easy and application friendly to both girls and boys. STEM activities provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science both fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn. Stem Caravan is a unique innovation that helps bring hands-on, practical, skills-based science education in schools, enabling students to learn the school science curriculum better, retain more knowledge and pass better. Through seminars and workshops, we are focusing on introducing STEM education to schools in the deepest remote areas in Africa where practical learning is a myth. Robotics in schools is one of the fresh approaches we are planning to use and bridges the technology divide between the classroom and the real-world and provide training, resources that are modern and relevant to the students inside or outside standard academic institutions. Better STEM education will encourage students to enroll in these courses there, and perhaps decide to pursue a career in related fields. Considering the high cost of higher education(Universities) in Africa, we are focusing on producing a workforce fit for non-degree STEM jobs pharmacy technicians, veterinary assistants, computer support specialists, registered nurse and air traffic controllers.
Sustainability and future plans
In the first half (six months) of operations; we are focusing on establishing an open space laboratory, this is planned to be strategically located in the suburbs of Kampala the Capital of Uganda. This is aimed at easing access for every young learner around the city center. In the second half of operations we will start focusing on putting our programs in action and these will include; Schools outreach. Through our School Outreach Program, we provide access to training and resources at the school level and include:Speaker Presentations, video presentations and study of real-world problems solved through robotics; Hands-on Robotics training, which introduces students to the basics of robotics. Robotics Camps, which are an intense, hands-on learning experience in STEM.This will be mainly focusing on the central region of the country. In the third half, we will be focusing on extending our programs to different regions of the country where we believe our services are needed most but very hard to access since most schools in for example in the Northern and Eastern part of Uganda are very remote and hard to access which calls for very well establishment before execution. After the third half, we are planning to run an integrated program focusing on both the laboratory and the school outreach.
