Vocational centre of excellence for young persons with disabilities.
Explain your idea in details:
The main objective of my idea is to create a vocational centre for young persons with disabilities to prepare them for the day-to-day duties that they will be doing in some specific trade, craft, profession, or roles and equip them with real skills and not only theoretical knowledge for employment purposes or self employment. This will be done by getting qualified accredited instructors in different fields like: masonry, carpentry, welding, basketry, beadwork and such like skills to give instructions in the classroom and also practical hands on training to help them get a certificate or diploma to help them deal with the real job market even if they do not have a formal education which was denied to them due to discrimination.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My idea will be targeting young persons with disabilities both male and female who are not employed and are discriminated due to their disability status. Offering a vocational learning opportunity to young persons with disabilities who missed formal education or some of them who do not want to attend formal education. This is a direct clear utility for them to actively participate since its more of practical skills of what they have chosen to learn and at the end of it, the skills are able to offer them employment opportunities, career growth or make them eligible for employment in any company or organization locally or even internationally.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
There will be a list of practical courses offered, the young persons will be called together and asked about their talents or what they like doing, their passions or aspirations, then from there they will have an introduction of the different vocational courses, they will be given time to make their decision based on what they are comfortable in doing. Having chosen what they love to do make them more passionate to learn the skills and be able to do it themselves. They will be able to learn specific skills for some specific jobs and this will prepare them for good jobs with good pay or self employment as they have skills, they will be independent thus making it sustainable.
