The main objective is to provide a realizable market for dressed or processed chickens for small poultry farmers. We will teach farmers to adopt efficient and environment friendly methods of rearing broiler chickens. this will lead to cheaper way of growing high quality chickens at the lowest possible cost. These chickens will be dressed,cleaned and packed and labeled frozen for distribution. We will distribute in under served communities and locations. We will supply the exiting small retailers in those areas.this will bring more affordable chickens in these communities.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
This idea is expected to 1. Enable small poultry farmers to make higher profits from this business. 2. Enable the small poultry farmers to upscale knowing they have a ready market. 3.enable them to adopt efficient methods of poultry farming reducing on wastage, and environmentally harmful habits. 4. The spill over effect will be a rise in chicken feed producers closest to these farmers and enhance more jobs will be created directly and indirectly. 5. The small retailers will have a stable and continuous supply of affordable locally grown chickens. 6. Enable us to organise the whole value chain bringing in the logistic and transporters,health experts, agro dealers, financiers, hatcheries and and grain producers .we will be the pivot of this partnership to ensure its self sustaining.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
We will buy broiler chicken from small poultry farmers, add value then sell to retailers in low income communities where there are mostly no large chains stores. The initial money will come from the 14 members of the company who will buy shares. This will cover overheads and some logistics. We will partner with day old chick breeders and chicken feed producers to provide a credit facility for our contracted farmers and will also work with small existing retailers who will be the off takers.
I am 49years old. I am a medical doctor with a passion for farming. As a child my farmer was involved in poultry farming to take us the school and I learnt a lot them. I have doing my own poultry business which has helped be take my children to school. I want to provide a solution for poultry farmers so that they are able to grow their businesses and help make them fundable. I also want to make a difference in my community by working with people from different backgrounds and help them build a Zambian business that will provide jobs and afford food. I have worked in private sector for many years and want to create jobs in this space.
