Global massive food wastage. A study by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated that almost one third of the food produced for human consumption about 1.6 billion tons per annum is wasted globally (FAO,2022). This has resulted to uneven distribution of food in different parts of the world. It has also led to greenhouse gas emission caused by the wasted food. Brightstar technologies projects that it will reduce these by 35% through designing of storage bags that extends agricultural produce shelf life. Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

Target: We aim to provide a scalable mechanism for storing agricultural produce which is achievable by designing and implementing technologies that will increase the produce shelf life. This will in turn reduce the current food loss which is at 17 percent of total global food produce, a report by (Nations) by 35 percent in a 5 year period. A study done by World Wildlife Fund shows that wasted food rot produces methanea greenhouse gas even more potent than carbon dioxide. About 6%-8% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced if we stop wasting food. Success evaluation We will provide feedback and testimonies from our potential clients based on evidence we gathered.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

Financing: We have so far raised $500 as our initial capital. In addition to our initial capital of $500 we are planning to pitch and present our project to donors and corporate to attract their support. In our first year we will focus more on research oriented implementation so as to ensure sustainability and resilient of our product in the market. In the next 5 years we target to outsource at least 500,000 bags which will enable us to raise enough revenue for expansion and relevance of our business. The investment we have, has been used in furthering the research work and prototyping. Any funds we will receive will be channeled to further implementation and to do sales marketing. We purpose to use hard manufacturer model. We will use various components and technologies to make bags which will be used to store produce. We will design and implement preservative bags that trap ethylene gas which is responsible for fruits and vegetables ripening hence increasing their shelf life. The bags will be equipped with sensors and actuators that will help monitor the level of ethylene gas and then trigger release of NaMnO2 when their level rises. The bags are connected to a central system that analyzes the conditions of the substance in the bag and sends a notification to the owner. Participated in an Essay competition to discuss the topic "Ethnic mobilization have been divisive factor in Kenya and has modified the kind of politics played.How can we move from ethnic based politics and other political ideologies to use an alternative." 4.Tech for Good 2022 Award.
