Sustainably Sourced Candles: Glow In the Dark!
Explain your idea in details:
The Sustainably Sourced Candles will be designed intricately, with each having a quote at the bottom of the candle (therefore, when the candle burns out and won't be able to brighten up someone's day, the moving quotes certainly will). Only glass vessels will be used when making these wondrous candles as plastic is a hazard to our dear planet. Made out of 100% GMO free soy wax, these candles are not only best for the environment, but they also burn the slowest, meaning you'll get to enjoy your candle even longer without the guilt of it being hazardous for the environment. 100% vegan and cruelty free. My objective with this project is to highlight how small changes in our life can change it completely. These sustainably sourced candles are a need to make your house, your home!
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Nowadays, candles are being used as a home decoration item. I had quite a few candles myself, but when I studied about the making of it, I learnt about how dangerous these candles truly are. Most candle wax is made of paraffin, a petroleum waste product that creates highly toxic benzene and toluene when it is burned. The tiny particles released from scented candles can get into the bloodstream and contribute to cardiovascular problems. According to Booker, the particles have even been found in peoples brains. My mission is to provide scented candles, which won't affect us nor our environment. The candles I will make are going to be not only environmentally friendly but they will also carry a delicious scent which will make your day!
Plans for implementation and sustainability
As I've mentioned before, this project is something I'm truly attached to. This is the very reason why I am going to invest in this business myself. I have contacted a handful of brands and have received quite a few responses. I am currently coordinating with them about this business idea. From their response, I'm hopeful that they too will invest. The other reason why I chose to work on this very idea is that candles are being used in almost every house, everybody's attention is on this product as the social media has also created relevance toward it.
This is Maria Nadeem. I study in grade 8 and I'm currently 13 years old (26 June, 2009). I am from Karachi, Pakistan. I'm currently studying in Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan School. I have hosted school programs six times last year. I have also secured 1st position in a speech and the poetry out loud competition held in my school last year. I also got awarded a bronze medal in International Kangaroo Linguistic Contest. I had been thinking about this idea long before this contest. Though, when I shared this idea with my fellows, it was considered too wild and optimistic to work on, because I'm a just a kid who needs to cram a textbook and get good grades. I'm grateful for this contest as now I can finally showcase my idea and work on the products' manufacturing. I am ready to embark this journey with the help of this golden opportunity. I am optimistic - maybe too much, but I believe it to be an advantage rather than a flaw.
