Or.Moghene Foods/Green House Project

Published on July 5, 2016 um 00:00

Explain your idea in details:

In order to encourage agricultural practices in Africa and the West African region, we will source our materials from indigenous farmers; distributing the production of every crop required across Africa, that is, no two or three produce will be acquired from the same farm in order to facilitate wealth distribution and wide participation in the development of the project. These products, when acquired, will be processed so as to produce a variety of consumer goods ranging from spices to condiments to cereals, etc. Our main aim is provide really affordable as well as high quality substitutes for goods imported into the continent, which due to high import duties and the prevailing fall in the value of some African countries' currency(evident in my country, Nigeria), has led to the geometric increase in the prices of such goods. Also, our green house project will be established in order to produce in commercial quantity products that naturally can not grow in Africa for local consumption and/or export and primarily as raw materials for our food processing plant. These products range from fruits such as berries, apples, etc to nuts; Brazilian nuts, hazelnuts, pecans, etc and a host of them.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

Our goal is to reduce Africa's dependency on foreign goods by harnessing and efficiently utilizing our resources, hence, it will be Africa feeding, clothing and growing herself. By producing goods and services of the best quality, we aim at creating in the minds of the African people the belief in the integrity of African-made goods and services, and in due course instill the same belief in the rest of the world. Consequently, by achieving the first two goals, there will be an improvement in our terms of trade, that is, there will be a significant reduction in our import price over our export and therefore it would mean an improved economy. We also aim at providing employment for our youths, especially farmers, agriculturists, agricultural engineers, etc in order to boost/promote agricultural practices.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

Our operations are basically purchasing agricultural produces from farms across Africa, processing the produces into finished/consumer goods and the distribution and sale of those products to the public through stores and supermarkets.

We intend to acquire a bank loan or get in touch with the Bank or Industry(BOI) in Nigeria in order to get funds for our start-up. And once we begin operations, i.e, the production of food products, we will be able to fund our operations with the turn-over from our sales.

Furthermore, we intend to create awareness for our products through radio and television advertisements.

We intend to work closely with farmers across Africa who will provide materials of good quality and at subsidized prices to facilitate the production of quality goods at affordable prices.

Our green-house project will be established at the long-run of the company when we've made enough profit to expand and this this will be geared towards producing agricultural produces that do not grow in Africa to be used in the production of more finished/consumer goods; and also for the sale of such produces in markets at subsidized prices.

Your profile

My name is Chukwuebuka Jude Orji, I am 18 years old and I am a Nigerian. I come from a family of ten; eight children, including myself, and my parents. I graduated from high school, Bishop James Yisa Memorial School in Suleja, Niger State to be precise in 2014. I have been pursuing my dream to study 3D Animation and Visual Effects, but which has not materialized, yet! And in the mean time, I have been working with my parents in their store where we sell provisions, most of which are foreign goods, and which is where I got this idea. I thought to myself, "why do we spend so much importing goods we can very much produce ourselves and buy for much less?". Nigeria imports so much goods that it is becoming ridiculous; we even import toothpicks, TOOTHPICKS! And therefore the dream was born; to save Nigeria and Africa from over-exploitation one step at a time, God help us, Amen.

You have a good idea. Source for agricultural products one per farmer and process them to international standard, wonderful!!. This will promote indigenous production and purchase of goods and thus help in growing the economy and strengthen the naira by letting the naira circulate within the country. Already government have started the ban on importation of certain goods. This will have an effect on consumers if local production is not increased. You are one out there to contribute in controlling a potential shortage. You have my salute and vote(1). Keep it up!. Cheers!
