Vietnams higher education is facing significant challenges when the countrys economy is growing sustainably. The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET, 2015) reported that 72.000 graduates do not have jobs because of lacking experience and critical thinking skills for good performance at work. The shortage of essential skills has limited the chances for graduates to work in international environments. With teaching and working experience, we believe that students need to be well-equipped with not only content knowledge but also practical experiences. Among the best teaching practices case study learning is an effective method that can help impart students with critical thinking skills (Popil, 2014). Hence, we will build an e-portal called casestudy.edu.vn providing the most real world related business cases. Both domestic and international cases can be interpreted for several disciplines which are most topical for the dynamics of the emerging market but deepening integration into global market such as Vietnam. Students will be encouraged to exchange their ideas and participate in both online and offline discussions. Students will apply knowledge and skills to solve the problems. The cases will be designed to improve their critical thinking skills with hands-on activities. Working on the cases requires students to research, evaluate multiple sources of data, and foster information literacy. Students will be constantly mentored to express their opinions and ideas. The e-portal will be a bridge for those who desire for skills and would like to perfect their knowledge through researching and exchanging the case studies or practical experiences of enterprises and successful entrepreneurs.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Since our most potential partner is Ho Chi Minh City Open University, we expect that it will have direct impacts on more than 35,000 students of the school and students of other universities and colleges coming from different provinces in Vietnam. They will be able to apply theories into practices, demonstrate and improve critical thinking skills, and learn to collaborate to find the most efficient solutions for problems that Vietnams economy is facing in the era of globalization. In a broader scale, the project will enhance employability of higher education students, and reduce inequality among rural and urban learners in getting access to high-standard education services. The students will become more aware of social issues, and their responsibilities for an innovative society. Indirectly, the project provoke students awareness, proactiveness, creativity and initiatives to contribute to the development of the community and to build a better society.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The project will last for one year. Starting in June, 2016, our team will embark on the finalizing with the national partner FBNC Channels to be allowed getting their business cases. We will also contact universities and companies in HCMC to inform about this project and call for their participation. We will invite knowledgeable alumni and expert to join. Communication Plan We plan to share our project through social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc). We will have flyers and banners to disseminate the projects components to all universities and institutions. We will enhance the cooperation with young people inspiring panelists to encourage students to realize the potential of education to bring out the best of them. The communication plan includes but not limit to Online marketing and Offline marketing such as PR tools for wider public press announcements and communication with journalists regarding the conference and outputs Dissemination of suggestions and case studies as materials to relevant decision makers in the education system via most appropriate channels. Establishing collaborations with other nonprofit and main stream media to put this issue on the agenda of the public debate. Contribution to the expected formal consultations with the interested publics regarding the changes to the teaching curriculum participation in relevant conferences and other public events.
I graduated Master in Business Administration in the US, and working as Research and Development Executive in Ho CHi Minh City Open University. Through my four years of research experience in college, I have grown increasingly interested in a wide variety of research areas, but particularly in innovation in higher Education. During 4 years in the US, I can see that, American Students can receive many benefit from thier innovative education such as ICT, based on that they can contribute alot for their country in the future. Therefore, To help students make connections between what they might otherwise consider to be separate disciplinesfor example, they see the need to draw upon principles in economics, environmental studies, and ethics to solve a problem in urban planning, or the need to use historical, philosophical, and sociological materials to make a decision about carrying out an anthropological project, and To promote life-long learning for all people in Viet Nam, especially for those who live in rural areas which accounts for 70% of population in Vietnam, I would like to build a website casestudies.edu.vn with all these diverse real case studies which help learners have extremely useful knowledge. Moreover, I believe that this Competition will be the best opportunity for me to bring my project to social community, based on that all of students as well as universities will acknowledge the important of Case study teching methods in applying theories in real world.
