Mobile phone climate change health warning systems in Northern Uganda; is a project scheme designed/developed in responds to this described problems/challenges Uganda is ranked 159 out of 178 countries, 15th on vulnerability and 147th on readiness to combat climate changes effects,ND-GAIN index1 (2013),since 2007 extreme flooding, drought conditions; have resulted to outbreak of diseases like malaria, cholera, crops diseases among others; with one million people lost their lives, increased famine and poverty, with no mitigation or prevention efforts (GOU 2015). The project aims to communicate and create awareness about health warning risks or potential disease outbreak to 4,000,000 population in 15 months, the project will focus on, 1) creating and connect 3000,000 mobile phones owners and 100 tele-centers to communication server for information dissemination in five months 2) forming one sectors consortium for weather health data analysisand dissemination in six months and 3) train and orient 80 weather Health informers and awareness raisers in information dissemination in three months. The main activities of the project will be: awareness creation,consortium needs assessment,sectoral consortium formation, instituting weather health tracking system, mobile phone and server linkages and training weather health informers, this shall be achieved through: communication server using computerized ICT technology, digitalized communication technology device system, use of daily data surveillance monitoring technology gargets tracking analysis systems and, use of trained weather health informers and awareness raisers, using vigorous in-depth training, involving religious and cultural leaders to address cultural and religious rigidities. monitored and measured through: partners and stakeholders, Data collected shall be analyzed using plausibility and triangulation concepts, compared with other reports and as such, Findings, Conclusions and Lessons Learnt was arrived and shared with the public,The project shall be managed by partners and sustained through: partners, resource person, communities, regular funding with startup cost of 60,000$.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The project expected impact of my idea on sustainable development shall be: (a) Improved health conditions of 4000,000 populations after informing them of pending calamities, dangers through detection, and prediction of harsh weathers related health consequences; serving as reference for improving health centres and increase capacity to swiftly respond to the calamities. (c) The project will increase incomes and reduce poverty among the communities as a result of increase health, energy and ability of the people able to participate in both business and agricultural production activities; increasing and tax base, economy of scale and improved access to cost of social services i.e. heath, education etc. (d) The project will connection 3000,000 phones based in both urban and rural areas into one central communication servicer that will ensure fast, efficient and effective health information communication about pending health calamities from extreme weather changes caused by climate change, a model which will be replicated and adopted for use in other communities and different sectors for different purposes. (e) General and health infrastructure development: the infrastructure i.e. roads, communications networks health houses among others will be developed to foster implementation of the project which will then be also used to support other services in different sectors or projects. The project will be monitored and measured through: partners to the project and communities, collection of Data be used through: using questionnaires, interviews and focus discussions methods and, Analysis of data was based on acceptable figures data (facts& estimates) and statistical figures (with proven calculations), comparison shall be made with previous reports, plotted in Graphical Illustration and as such, Findings, Conclusions and Lessons Learnt was arrived at, the report will be shared with the public.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The project model, financing and collaborators of the project are herein explained: 1.Business model: shall be of social development with: implementation shall taken fifteen months and shall involve partners i.e. sectors, organizations and department activities bound with specific ethical values guided by the policies and systems in place and implementation schedules designed, marketing of the project shall involve: target groups and the communities with varied approaches, social value proposition shall comprise of outputs, outcomes and impacts of project undertaken through monitoring and evaluation systems: customer relationship and macroeconomic environment i.e. policies stability, prices stability, specific target groups and competitors and delivery costs i.e. cost of implementing core activities, administration, monitoring and evaluation of the project: surplus from project revenues shall be reinvest based on policy and project agreement; with revenue funding of the project shall come from donors, partners, well-wishers and communities (both cash and in-kind). 2. Financing source of project shall be drawn from: Government of Uganda, Partners to the project, Donors, Communities and well-wishers through fund raising, advocacy and lobbying, consultancies. 3. Collaborators/partners of project: Ministry of health, Ministry of Environment, Weather meteorological Department, MTN telephone Communication Company, and NUEN; coordinating organization, with Supervisory Authority from office of the Prime Minister (Uganda) shall be partners/collaborators. Monitoring and evaluation of project: the project shall be monitored by partners, target group and public, Data collected shall be undertaken through questionnaires, interviews and focus discussions methods with, data shall be analysed,triangulated edited, interpreted and comparisons made with previous reports, plotted in Graphical Illustration and Findings, Conclusions and recommendation for public consumption.
Am ojungo joram from Uganda, Ugandan by birth, founder member of Northern Uganda effort for the Needy (NUEN),a community Based Organization and Adisoft Investments Company Limited formed in 2008 and 2012 respectively. My educational profession is Bachelor in business administration, other trainings iattended are: organizational development and relation with partners trainings in 2013, 2014 and 2015; economic policy research training and international labour organization (green business). Ihave worked experience with my organization for seven years, research two years; this have widened my horizon in professionalized work and improved my work outputs. My achievements are in tree planting, research in climate change and implication on health of communities, energy efficient saving stoves and clean energy technology for development purposes. I have conducted research health services, status and challenges through White Ribbon Alliance; in lira district from 2013,2014 and 2015 and presented to the district. Monitored distribution of nets in sixteen districts of northern Uganda from 2013, 2014 and 2015. My efforts have led to recognition of my organization by stakeholders in northern Uganda. What motivates me, is the desire in protecting communities from challenges of climate change health related effects affecting their lives; recognition by stakeholders, leading research institutions, local and international youth organization, my tireless need for increased learning from consultants, organizations and champions who have succeeded in empowering societies, uplifted people from poverty, undertaken climate change health related mitigation efforts and my strong desires to further contributes in mitigation of climate change health effects. I have strong interpersonal skills in working people of diverse backgrounds, resilience, passion and abilities to work for longer hers with minimum supervision, ability to organize and engage in different programmes and activities in different settings such, this qualities reinforces me to and my succeed in my career work by 90%.
