Explain your idea in details:
In Brussels, there exists no place where young citizens can meet local organisations who are working on impactful project. Local organisations have a big need for volunteers to make a big impact on the country. On the other hand, young citizens want to build skills, experience and contribute to feel empowered. Creating an online and offline platform to create a connection between the two will greatly impact people's life in Brussels. Both needs will be fulfilled just by creating a place where they can connect. We will initiate and facilitate the beginning phases of becoming a volunteer and follow up with them to see if the organisation they are in really suites them and maybe redirect them to other local organisations.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
We hope to connect at leasts 80% of the organisations in Brussels with 25% of the local youth in a timeframe of 4 years. We can measure success if those 25 % are attained and if the young volunteers are happy we introduced them to those organisations and that they feel empowered by doing the work in those organisations.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
First of all I will look for potential collaborators. I need to look for local organisations which want to be introduiced to young citizens. I need to contact a webmaker and webdesigner so we can start the online phase of this project. We will have to find a way to connect with young citizens with a potential to be volunteers. We will have to build a campaign to let those people know we created this place for them. We will have to look for financial aid in the beginning, we will submit our project to funders and work with those who see the value of the project. The offline place is going to take a bit of time, because we first have to find a place and then the money to finance this place. So we are going to rely on the online platform for at least a year or two.
I'm 19 years old and I live in Brussels. I am myself a volunteer for organisations like The Red Cross, FEMYSO and EFOWM. Being in those organisations has helped me and empower me. I am really sad so few young people volunteer. In Brussels it is hard to found lists of organisations, I myself had to search a lot before finding those organisations. This doesn't make it easy for young people to know a little bit more about volunteering. They also don't know the benefits of volunteering. That's why I think we should introduce them to it and facilitate the beginning steps to it. The project is going to work because I know really great people working in organisations who are willing to help. I am also a good organizer, I am a volunteer myself and know how the volunteering world in Brussels works, this is an advantage.
