Explain your idea in details:
Realizing that many students do not have the opportunities to study science and engineering, especially the poor students, hence I want to create a learning environment outside the formal classroom so that they can further study the lessons learned from the schools through practical experiments, lecture-tutorials, assignments, and scientific research, etc. I want to set up a community education center, gathered a group of young people who has a solid scientific knowledge and the spirit of dedication to society, to volunteer to teach and support the poor students for studying and researching. My center will include three classes: Class A is for the weak students, students who participate in this class will be taught the concepts, the principles and the theoretical basis of science and engineering; Class B is for strong students, students who participate in this class will be equipped with advanced academic knowledge, theoretical study, problem-solving skills; Class C is also for strong students, students who participate in this class will carry out experiments, scientific research, technical innovation, etc; (The strong students have the right to choose between class B or class C to participate in, depending on their desires; the A-graders can participate in two remaining classes if their academic performances are improved).
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My idea is mainly targeted at poor students, particularly students who passionate about science but have no conditions to develop and pursue their passions. My center assures the quality of education for students and supports them on the way to conquer knowledge and prepare for higher education. I believe that my community education center will create many young scientists with amazing inventions, even contributing to change the world. Moreover, in my country, Vietnam has very few patents. Therefore, I hope my education system will gradually change the way to study science and engineering of Vietnam scientific community in general and Vietnamese students in particular, not only to take theoretical and academic research, write the thesis but also to create inventions and the actual products to contribute to the sustainable development of the country. The right to education is not only the right to access education but also the right to receive an education of good quality. So the most important role of my center is to expand learning opportunities for the poor students, gives them the right to quality education.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
I will raise funds for my center from the sponsors, companies, social organizations and the government. After raising funds and gathering volunteers, I will open one department in Ho Chi Minh City, one department in Hanoi, some departments in disadvantaged areas (the number of centers depends on our budget). Then we will contact to some schools and the local department of education and training to seek students for our center. Each class takes 2 sessions a week. The center will hold a science and engineering fair for our students every 6 months, its aim is not only to reward and encourage students but also to select the best quality products to enter the science and engineering fairs in the country and all over the world. Besides learning and researching, we will also hold monthly activities to create an atmosphere of fun and relaxation for our students, accompanying by an annual summer camp to develop their soft skills, becoming more active, more confident and sociable. The centers volunteers will also gain many benefits, such as improving their knowledge and their level of learning, gaining experiences in researching and studying by supporting and teaching the students.
I am a student who just graduated from a high school for gifted students in Binh Dinh province. My gifted major is Informatics. I am a self-driven, motivated person from a poor family. My interest is reading in order to keep updating my knowledge. I can read anything, but my favourite genre is the science journal. And my basic instinct is to keep learning and exploring all the times. Studying science has been my hobby since childhood, it is an activity in which I spend most of my time. I was particularly fond of astronomy, economics, and artificial intelligence. I also find research work very interesting and attractive.I got a part-time job in a spring rolls manufactory, the owner agreed to admit me as an apprentice. I did almost everything in the manufactory, ranging from fixing machines and cutting rice papers to accountancy. 3 months I worked there have taught me a lot that I cannot list them here. The most precious things I learned is experience and practical knowledge. My father died when I was in my 10th grade, my family became destitute then, the difficulty of my family almost made me give up my dream, and I thought I could not go to college. But fortunately, I won a full scholarship from East Meets West Foundation. Since that day, I always hope to create similar learning opportunities for other poor students. I am going to enter a university in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and have a lot of plans for the future.
