Explain your idea in details:
Africa has about 60 percent of the world's unused cropland, and also Nigeria as the most populous nation on the continent also has 60% of its land uncultivated, providing it with a golden opportunity to simultaneously develop its agricultural sector and reduce unemployment. Some of the major factors that have hindered this sector are the inefficient supply chain from farm to the end consumers, poor storage and packaging just to mention a few. Tomato.com will be providing an e-commerce B2B and B2C platform for manufacturers of Agricultural and food products to connect to their customers and vice-versa so as to cater for the headache of reaching targeted consumers easily. It has been discovered that before agricultural products (perishable goods such as tomato pepper etc.) gets to end consumers, most would have gotten spoilt or rotten.Tomato.com comes with a solution by providing conditioning centers for these produce to be processed and well packaged before distribution so as to deliver healthy food to the populace and also increase the longevity of these products. With Tomato.com farmers will be encouraged to farm more knowing their produce can last longer, end consumers can locate manufacturers of certain products easily and vice versa. In summary we seek to boost sales of these products as an incentive to cultivate more farmlands, hence ensuring food security, employment and a boost to her economy as Strive Masiyiwa put it AFRICA HOLDS THE KEY TO HUMANITY'S FUTURE, AND AGRICULTURE HOLDS THE KEY TO AFRICA'S FUTURE.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
With Tomato.com coming on board into the Agricultural sector of Nigeria, we believe farmers will be able to trade easily and faster through the e-commerce platform, demand will increase and more sales made thereby forcing farmers to cultivate more farm lands due to the increase in demand, and when more lands are cultivated it ensures food security. Poor, inefficient and inadequate storage and packaging has caused a great loss to farmers in the developing country such as Nigeria. With tomato.com conditioning centers where agricultural products will be processed and packaged well before sales, we hope to minimize these loss and provide for suitable and healthy products for the populace.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
We are a start-up company, and we hope to start small but grow big. So we have decided to take Lagos as our main target for now. With a projected population of over 18-million people. We hope to partner with local farmers within and outside the area, set-up a mini processing and conditioning center within the locality, and also kick-start the e-commerce platform to order for variety of food products at a very affordable price and fast delivery time.
All products to be sold will be well packaged to last long. Imagine ordering for tomatoes , pepper, vegetables , onions, palm-oil, frozen chicken, eggs etc. all from the comfort of either your office or home and getting them delivered in less than 24Hrs. this is what tomato.com hope to start with and grow from here. We want to make Agriculture not just a trade but a real business. Our source of fund shall be from grants and soft-loans from family and relatives, and we will also be willing to partner with the right investors
