Explain your idea in details:

Nigeria, operating a monolithic economy , is heavily dependent on importation and this has seriously impeded the economy of the Nation, thus the need to diversify the economy. The Nigerian roads are filled with cars and yet, there is no substantial battery manufacturing company but car users rather depend on expensive imported batteries. Therefore this industry will help to reduce the dependency of Nigeria on imported goods by producing more efficient and less expensive (since the cost of importation will not be included) batteries. In addition, regular supply of energy remains one of the potential factors of development, and according to the United Nations (UN), 1.2 billion people in the world don't have access to electricity while about 1 billion people have access to unreliable power supply. Although, the country is advancing its steps towards renewable energy sources especially solar energy, it will be a great disadvantage to her, if she still relies on imported components. Therefore, this enterprise will manufacture different grades of batteries needed for solar system installation. Also, I observed that in most cases, when batteries have reached their end-of-use, it is most times discarded carelessly which in turn pollute the environment. Therefore, enviromental pollution will be reduced by recyling and refurbishing of used batteries. Recycling used batteries will also reduce the cost of producing new batteries. To increase the efficiency of this industry, a mobile application will be created where customers can order batteries, request for a pick up of used batteries and also request for battery check ups. Customers will be greatly assisted in choosing the right type of battery for their device or engine. Also, researching for better battery technologies will be one of the major duty of the company. Lastly, the health risks involved in producing batteries will be mitigated by adopting best medical practices.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

The need to diversify the economy is very urgent in the country. It has been estimated that the country has over 10,000,000 tons of lead ore deposit in which the larger percentage is yet to be explored. Therefore, this company will help diversify the economy by providing market for the lead ore. Other impacts on sustainable development include: 1. Boosting the local economy of the country by shifting her status from an importer of batteries to an exporter of batteries. 2. Providing access to less expensive batteries, the citizens will be able to afford the installation of solar systems in their homes and offices. 3. Protecting the planet. Lead which is a major component of battery is very poisonous to the environment and the human body. Therefore, our recycling activities will help sustain the environment by keeping it free of these poisonous elements. 4. Lastly, this industry is estimated to provide atleast 1,000 direct jobs for Nigerians. This will go a long way to reduce the high rate of unemployment that is currently ravaging the country as both skilled and unskilled workers will be needed. Finally, as the world of technology and electronics is growing rapidly, efficient batteries are in high demands. Therefore, this company aims to be the largest producer and supplier of batteries for any type of device in Africa.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

This manufacturing industry will be situated very far from the residential area but will have distribution stations spread abroad in the country for easy accessibility to the customers. Since batteries are not scarce in the country, the industry will face a lot of competitors especially international ones. Therefore, government will have to help local manufacturers by placing a stricter ban on imported goods.

This company will patner with automobile industries as well as the electronic industry to supply them with quality batteries. Relevant national and international renewable agencies will be joined for support and technical consultations. Also through these agencies, the company will be able to voice out their need to the government for policies that favours the growth of local manufacturing industries. The company will also need the services of expert, so necessary patnerships will be made with international industries to the develop the human capacity of the her workers. We will always ensure that we are always updated with current trends, demands and technologies related to battery manufacturing.

The company's financial sources will include loans, grants, investments, personal savings, public stakeholders e.t.c. She will not in way be impeded by finances as necessary preparations and investments will be made before setting out.

Your profile

I am a first class student of chemical engineering currently aged 20, with a passionate interest in energy sustainability and environmental conservation. My passion has driven me to study hard and think creatively in this direction right from my secondary school days. I won the 2011 Science Teacher Association of Nigeria (STAN)/ Mobil national quiz completion, Best graduating science student in my secondary school and the overall best student the 2013 Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile ife POST UTME. Also I was a finalist in the 2016 Africa Energy Essay Contest, winner of MTN Telecommunications, TOTAL Upstream Nigeria Ltd and Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF) Scholarship grants for my undergraduate studies. I am also an associate partner with Gravita Technology and Engineering, India. My hands, minds and heart are always in an inexhaustible longing on how I can use my academic proficiency to transform my dear country Nigeria. I believe in team work and I love to see opportunities in problems rather than complain about them.

Hello comrade,
You conceived a great idea when you push it hard into execution. I support it by votes and comments. What to do is just don't give up even when you don't make in the competition.
