Explain your idea in details:
The main objectives of my idea is to bring an equitable growth in the poultry sector which includes the development of large scale poultry farmers and along with them the development of small scale farmers for steady growth and production and the production can be collected at a single point i.e. at a co-operative market. Further, the co-operative will decide the Minimum Support Price (MSP) which will provide a stable and uniform platform for sale of poultry birds. The co-operative will consist of Board of Members which will decide the rules and regulations for the co-operative and the board will consist progressive farmers along with representatives of small farmers, veterinarians and local feed suppliers. For strengthening the poultry farmers and year round production in the farm, the loan can be made available to them from the banks and also training will be organized for adoption of new and improved techniques and equipment in the farming. Further, the formation of co-operative will boost the economy by setting up of a slaughter house and meat processing plant by the co-operative and that will enhance the year round sale of the poultry meat and increase profit for the farmer by value addition. The formation of such a meat co-operative will be first of its kind in the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir and the model can be replicated in the country will great results. My basic idea is to bring the poultry farmers together for their own benefit.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The idea will have a widespread impact on strengthening the social fabric by making a bond between different farmers of the region. Along with their business they can transfer their knowledge related to the poultry farming. One major impact will be the stable year round income with sustainable growth and decreased risk of market fluctuations. The farmers can cope up with the distress sale they face during certain period of time in an year. Further the value addition of meat by processing can increase the profit margin by the farmers. The success can be evaluated by the fact that AMUL i.e Anand Milk Union Limited which is milk co-operative of milk farmers of Gujarat State of India is a multi million company with so many products for general public and stable market market for the milk producers of the state. I want to develop a meat co-operative on the same lines and as the region is having majority of non-vegetarians the idea will surely be a success. Further various hotels and restaurants can be directly linked to the co-operative for the sale of meat. I wish to have a simple target i.e. to make a better market for the farmers and to make the state self-sufficient in meat production.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
My plan is to contact the major large and progressive farmers of the region and bring them together for a cause. The major players of the market will be made to share their opinions and will be made to understand the rules and regulations of the co-operatives. the benefit and the impact of the idea will be delivered to them and can be made to pool their production. Further the small and marginal farmers should be made to do the same on the same lines. Farmers' Board of Members will be made and the Minimum Support Price can be discussed. The co-operative can be registered under the Indian Law and can be made to work independently. Further, the members of the co-operative will pool a share of their benefit according their production status and the slaughter house and a small processing plant for the processing of poultry meat can be established. The co-operative will also consist of veterinarians and feed suppliers for their advise and help. The co-operative will be by the farmers and for the farmers. The finance however can be made available to the farmers from the local agencies and from the bank on easy and flexible terms.
My name is Amandeep Singh. My age is 23 Years and I am a Student of 5th Professional Year, B.V.Sc. & A.H., from Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, R.S. Pura, Jammu (J&K). Being a student of Veterinary Sciences, I had close encounters with the distressed poultry farmers which incur huge loses due to distressed sale. Further, the market fluctuations need to be stabilized and new people should be recruited into the industry. The idea of employment generation for the unemployed and for stabilizing the economy of the region and ultimately the country motivated me to come up with this idea. I had done and is being a part of many researches related to poultry production and extension and being a native to the region, I have a strong command on the language and also identification of the key people and areas related to poultry farming.
