#MEET Capture Caption App:

This is a short interview we conducted with Ayman AL Derawi, one of the co-founders of Capture Caption App. If you like the concept of this idea and would like to vote for it, click HERE. For more, visit the Capture Caption App website.

1. What is your background? (Nationality, age, education, field of work)

My name is Ayman AL Derawi. I am 32 years old Palestinian who currently live in Gaza, Palestine. I have bachelor and Master of Science degrees in computer engineering from the Islamic University of Gaza. I am a software engineer and currently a team-lead of software group at a local bank in Gaza, Palestine. I am a co-founder and project director of the Capture Caption app. My co-founder and main shareholder is Mustafa Jaber, PhD. He is a 36 years old Palestinian who is currently working as a computer vision engineer at a small startup in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Jaber holds a doctorate degree in Imaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology (USA).

2. Describe your idea or project in two sentences.

Our technology can describe photo content by words. That is, image auto-caption. We see a great use case for preschool and elementary school kids. That is, including visual cues, tag-words, and their pronunciation as one tool to develop tech for children, photo and language skills.

3. What are the benefits you take from the Entrepreneurship Campus?

We got to think about the tough questions such as how to bring tech to market, identifying our target audience, marketing technique, business plan, and more importantly figuring out how to use our technology as a utility to help others.

The Entrepreneurship Campus is a great form for early entrepreneurs like us.

4. What motivates you to be an entrepreneur?

We are from Gaza, Palestine where there is a huge rate of unemployment of fresh graduates in the tech field. We thought to start some app development projects to employ some of these graduates.

5. Imagine you have ‚supreme power’ to create and innovate: how would your world look like? What changes would you like to make in your community and/or in the world? Share your thoughts from a ‚supreme power’ and entrepreneur standpoint.

I believe everyone deserves high-quality education. I would use my supreme power to introduce tech to education at all levels. And by education, I don’t only mean formal schooling, but also training and gaining market skills. Helping and empowering fresh graduates to establish private business to secure a source of living is my goal.

6. What would you say to potential voters who may be reading your interview?

Vote for our project. Support our cause of bringing tech to curious young minds. What if the cure for cancer is trapped inside the mind of someone who can't afford an education?

To build and have a better future for all, a new and better education and learning approaches need to be adopted. This will keep in-check the changing dynamism of the world. As the world keep advancing in science, technology and arts, so education and learning process needs to change according to the changing trends in science, technology and arts. This his project is a great one, an educational simulator that will have a positive impact on children. According to research, the more visual learning interface or mental simulation a child gets from age 4, the more developed the parts of their brain dedicated to language and cognition will be in decades ahead. I wish him the best of luck.
