#MEET Dexterity Inc.

This is a short interview we conducted with Faith Muange , the founder of “Dexterity Inc.”. If you like the concept of this idea and would like to vote for it, click HERE.

  • What is your background?

My name is Faith Muange I am 30 years, am a Kenyan, a banker by training, entrepreneur and a social change catalyst. I am a YALI East Africa fellow 2016 and co-founder of Dexterity Inc. a social enterprise enabling Deaf youth to enhance their livelihoods and build resilience as they rise above stigma, stereotypes and marginalization that they face in life.

  • Describe your idea or project in two sentences.

My project – Dexterity Inc. empowers the Deaf youths with leadership skills to enable them be confident, assertive and able to organize and lead others; engage in their communities and have a greater voice in policy dialogue, community engagement and create sustainable mechanisms for improved livelihoods.

  • What are the benefits you take from the Entrepreneurship Campus?

The entrepreneurship campus has opened my eyes to see the incredible work young leaders are doing across the globe and the amazing people supporting their ventures. The online courses give entrepreneurs a chance to learn, make adjustments and improve on their ideas and projects.

  • What motivates you to be an entrepreneur?

I have been challenged by this level of stigma, stereotyping, neglect and marginalization of the Deaf in my own community. Consequently, I realized I could use my skills to organize Deaf youth, equip with in leadership, enterprise development and life skills to give them better chances to earn livelihood and compete with the other youth without disabilities. My desire is to see people's attitudes change towards Sign Language and the Deaf people will have better access to information, education, political and socioeconomic activities or interactions. The joy of seeing a transformed life, smiling face and a content soul motivates me to reach more.

  • Imagine you have ‚supreme power’ to create and innovate: how would your world look like? What changes would you like to make in your community and/or in the world? Share your thoughts from a ‚supreme power’ and entrepreneur standpoint.

I could help entrepreneurs prevent problems before they arise, No good invention would go uncreated and no time would be wasted on unworthy venture. I would use my power to let people in on the challenge of persons with disability, to see things from a different stand point. I would use this power to influence inventions that enhance the lives of people with disability, eliminating stigma and stereotypes. As an entrepreneur empathy gives us a connection with people not just the problem we are fixing. If we treat people with the dignity and respect they deserve we make the world a better place.

  • What would you say to potential voters who may be reading your interview?

We need to make it better for the next generation by being change catalysts in our communities. No child born with a disability should feel like a second class citizen, all children with a disability can be what they want to be anywhere in the world. By voting Dexterity Inc you will be creating a cycle of success one Deaf youth at a time reiterating the old saying disability is not inability.

this is another socially inclusive idea. Helping the physically challenge to develop themselves and the community they reside. Great idea.
