My profile

Am a 26 year old Kenyan. Born and raised in the sprawling slums of Mathare in Nairobi, Kenya to a single mother, I have always harboured ambitions of making slums life enjoyable. Through her mearge earnings as a maid in an Indian family, my mother managed to enrol me for a journalism course at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication from where I graduated with a diploma. I decided to use skilled learnt to tell the world a positive story about Mathare which has for many years highlighted as a crime, prostitution and drug abuse den. I have written several stories especially on agri-business highlighting how slum dwellers are using their innovations to keep vagaries of food insecurity away. My story http://farmbizafrica.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=793:mathare-families-fly-with-rooftop-farming&catid=10:market-trends&Itemid=144 and http://farmbizafrica.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=836:residents-find-reprieve-in-cheap-duck-oil&catid=27:local&Itemid=144 have recieved nominations for AGRA and FAO awards respectively. I have numerous leadership, peace keeping and entreprenueral certificates that tell best my unique story. My initiative https://www.facebook.com/AntiKunguniCampaign that seek to unlock employment oppotunities for youths thus reducing the rate of crime, drug abuse and other social vices has taken roots. The campaign also works towards eradicating bedbugs that now haunts Nairobi residents. I have also participated in many assay competitions including the Goi Peace Foundation essay for the youth and have countless certificates. Project Overview

Amadala's recyclable company

My business idea revolves around a garbage management scheme especially in informal settlements in urban centres. I intend to collect and sort garbage from households in respective communities to set up a recyclable company that will use plastic materials obtained from the garbage to produce household items like basins, buckets, plates, jugs and other utensils which I will sell back to families in the community. The inclusive business model will see both my company and the community benefit. For instance, I plan to provide garbage containers to every household and give a small token for every 10 kilogramme of delivered. I will also employ youths and women from respective regions to help in sorting of the garbage and loading of waste for disposal to designated dump sites. By so doing, I will have created employment oppotunities for locals and help them earn a living. It will also see them involve in cleanup activities to keep their community clean hence averting health catastrophes that can otherwise see them spend money in hospitals. In return, I will be able to acquire garbage management tender from respective authorities thus income for the company. I will also bank on their rich market to sell domestic products manufactured from plastics recycled. My main business objective is to use abandoned locally available materials to setup a business enteprise that transform communities both socially and economically.
