Amani Katana is an aspiring entrepreneur and a Member of YALI Network in Kenya since 2014. Having worked as Operation Supervisor with diverse companies in the Maritime industry for over 8 years, he decided to resign in 2011 and follow his passion for social entrepreneurship. In September 2015, he founded and registered Garb Tech, a community ‘Garbage Technology’ business which uses technology to reduce unlawful disposal of solid waste and plastic waste by re using and recycling it in Mombasa.
Amani also volunteers as a Trainer and Mentor on entrepreneurship and digital literacy on regular basis for various organizations in Mombasa including, Economic Project Transformational Facility, Muslim Education and Welfare Association, Kenya Youth Business Trust and Kenya Muslim Youth Alliance. He successfully delivered entrepreneurship training to over 400 youth and Digital Literacy Training to over 100 women in 2015. Most recently he volunteered as a mentor in the Build–A–Business Workshop at YALI Regional East Africa Center.
Amani has also been selected among 1000 entrepreneurs from 54 African Countries to participate in the 2016 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program (TEEP) in Nigeria.
