Having grown up in a low-income farming community, I have witnessed first-hand the effects of climate change on the livelihood of farmers. This gave me clear understanding of how the demand for wood fuel eventually leads to unsustainable wood harvesting practices like deforestation and its contribution to climate change. As young as 16 years, I have always been determined to pursue a career in clean and renewable energy technologies that are both financially and environmentally sustainable. At university, I came to understand how finance and business management play a big role in the future of sustainable energy in Uganda. I started the waste to energy youth project and WEYE Clean Energy Co. Ltd to use business as a tool to promote sustainable energy practices like producing briquettes from organic wastes. This project has trained over 700 youth and women, empowering them with skills and equipment to start and run both briquette production units and plastic waste recycling business. It is also providing waste to energy cooking and heating solutions to 10 schools, 2 large scale poultry farms and 2 medium-scale industries saving over 1080 trees annually. Our innovative social business models have received both domestic and international recognition such as
