My name is Damini Kesheeka Devi Bhookhun and I am 18 years old. I have recently completed my secondary education. Since childhood I have been an admirer of nature and animals, be it domestic or wild. For me, the biodiversity of our beautiful planet is the most fundamental gift to mankind and we should love and protect it. But unfortunately, human actions are leading to their endangering.

I would describe myself as an ambitious and hardworking person. At secondary school, I took science subjects, for A level, namely; Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. I also did english( General Paper) and French. At O level I did English, French, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sociology, and Food and Nutrition.These subjects can be effective for me as I want to pursue a career where I can be helpful and contribute in a way to help preserve nature. At school, I participated in many extracurricular activities and competitions, for instance Model United Nations(MUN), Omnicane award, Concours Marie Curie -Français Et Sciences 2017 in which I got the second prize and music performances. Moreover, I had participated in the 2017 GOI essay competition. These activities not only improved me as a person, but also motivated me to work harder and better. I eventually obtained lots of experiences and knowledge from these. I am currently a year 1 BSc(hons)Management student at the University of Mauritius.

I am interested about issues like climate change, animal welfare as well as gender equality. I believe that all life forms have an equal right to live on earth and that we should not believe we are superior to other beings. As Paul Farmer said;
“The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world.” Be it wild or domestic animals, we should protect them as together with them we form the biodiversity of earth. I also believe that our excessive greed for resources is the leading cause of climate change and its time to change our ways. I am sure we can restore our world if we unite as one, because where is a will there is always a way.
