Apologies for not responding to any comments recently. I was busy writing tests at university.
I appreciate all the criticism, advice and questions. All the best for your future endeavours!
I agree. It crucial to inspire people to work towards the betterment of themselves and the community.
Definitely two areas to define. Thank you for engaging and giving your input.
The organisation will seek individuals that are unemployed and eager to work towards a better life for themselves. These individuals will then be prioritized by different variables (for example, their current financial and housing situation). Solutions will depend on what job/internship opportunities are available or can be created at the time.
The Unemployment Rate in South Africa averaged 25.41% from 2000 until 2017. Internet access is also limited to the poor and thus it can be challenging for the homeless and unemployed to search for opportunities.
I plan to seek startup funding by doing the following;
- Approach businesses in the hope that they could assign funding out of their corporate social investment (CSI) funds.
- Apply for government grants focused on assisting young entrepreneurs. I might partner up with a few associates if it is required or will help strengthen the application.
- Approach incubators and enter for local/global entrepreneurship competitions.
Training sessions will only be implemented when enough resources are available. The organisation should first focus on successfully executing the following before expanding; Collect and distribute blankets, clothing and bedding to those in need. When the training sessions launch, categories should be applied to each communities' needs.
Thank you for your suggestion. I have attached two additional pictures to my idea.
There are various different materials used in South African shacks. I do not feel that a single description would suffice. I would advice that you browse the internet for more information regarding the state of South African shacks, please find the attached image as well.
There are many low cost effective ways of improving these shacks. Mud will indeed give the feel of a well structured house. The organisation will first need to inspect shacks and identify what is needed for improvement. After the challenge is identified, the designing process will start. Each challenge will be unique and will require a unique solution as well. For example, one way of implementing a solution will be to use Eco Bricks, please find the attached image.

No one deserves to live in a shack. I've read your profile. Thank you for your involvement in your community thus far. All the best for you as well!
Thank you for all the best wishes. The plan is to start the idea as a Non-profit Organization. Thus, our aim will not be to make profit. The organisation will mainly rely on grants issued by the government and public/corporate sponsors. In the event that the organisation needs funding to sustain employee salaries a fundraiser can be arranged. Another way of generating funds would be to make blankets, clothing and/or bedding. These products can be showcased and sold in various stores with an added donation levy to support the organisation.
Yes, there are various organisations working on the same principle, which is great! My idea is different because the organisation will not only rely on donations from the public but will actively seek out to collect material from factories and workshops as an added resource. The organisation can be broadened by hosting educational sessions to teach people creative ways how they can make their own blankets, clothing and/or bedding. This could lead to employing permanent staff and create entrepreneurial opportunities for individuals. The organisation also has a narrow focus in terms of its goals; 1. Distribute blankets, clothing and bedding to those in need 2. Create employment opportunities 3. Provide a permanent year-round service
