@Yeshwanth and @TeamM3N, thank you for your question about what Ive done to improve my idea over the course of this competition. As I was looking over all of the published ideas, I was especially drawn to those with visual aids. I also realised that the details about workshop organisation, startup costs, production materials & methods, and expansion plans were disorganised. So I decided to utilise Picktochart (a web-based infographic application) to present them more clearly. Additionally, as I was watching some of the videos, I felt the need to redo mine. I have so many clips of my preliminary research, trial run of production process, and product testing, but I edited and subtitled the only ones with LifeFilters2Go location and Workshop Leaders. I should try to add the other clips to my video soon.

Hi Yeshwanth,

Thank you for your question about my inspiration behind this idea. Ill explain In the past two decades, thousands of Shan refugees fled their homes due to clashes between Myanmar government forces and armed ethnic militias, yet they werent listed in UNHCR or recognised by Thai government. Many ended up settling and working illegally on cash-crop plantations in Northwestern Thailand. During home visits, I could smell the pesticide residue in the air and see all the chemical containers and blind cats in the living quarters. I also discovered that the families relied on open and contaminated water wells. And at the local inn, I befriended a PhD researcher who had been studying maternal health amongst Shan refugees in the area for the past five years. I learned that pesticides and unsafe drinking water caused a lot of health complications amongst Shan mothers and their children. I knew that once I found a cause, I shouldnt just write. I had to act.

Sincerely,

Kate Bradley

Hi MD Niazul,

Thank you for your questions about my idea. First, I'll explain my motivation behind this idea. Hi Naveen,

Your idea has a lot of potential and even covers so many of the SDGs! I also think that this business can thrive everywhere around the world! I am working on a simple, hand-made ceramic water filters, and I would appreciate your thoughts on it. Your entrepreneurial eye will help my partners and me greatly. Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Hi Zulkifilu,

We both agree that unsafe water and poor health go hand in hand. I really like your approach to dealing with these problems. Although I have taken a university/graduate-level summer course in Environmental Science, Im afraid that I dont have any sort of experience with Apps and IT. I'm actually working on a hand-made device that is supposed to purify contaminated drinking water. Its definitely NOT cutting-edge technology, but rather goes way back to pottery-making at the dawn of civilization. Hence, I would very much like to take a great leap forward and learn from you. Lets stay in touch!

PS: Have you thought about adding some visual aids? I have only uploaded three photo collages, but I think that I should create an infographic that can illustrate my idea more clearly and set forth my action plan more effectively. I am working on mine now, and I hope that you have some spare time to work on yours, too.

Hi Vera,

I was thrilled to see your idea, especially because we are tackling the same problems!!! Last year, I installed five water filtration systems and turned them into free Water Fill-up Stations at Ban Wiang Wai School; however, the students, who received large water containers, found it difficult to carry them home! So I am now working on an idea to produce and sell hand-held ceramic water filters so that the students and their families can purify contaminated water from their water wells at home. I would really love to stay in touch with you so that we can share experiences and ideas. I am certain that we can support one we face and overcome various obstacles whilst we turn our ideas into sustainable businesses in Nigeria and Thailand. Ive made a Friend Request, please add me.

Sincerely,

Kate Bradley
