The general objective of the NGPG 228 project is to develop transformational leadership among 400 young girls and boys from 16 to 24 years old to see and create a new future with an inclusive, sustainable and participatory vision.
Solution
Training is central in that it aims to provide the young people concerned with the knowledge, skills and tools to enable them to play their full role as citizens of this nation. It is within this framework that the NGPG 228 Project: New Generation for Participatory Governance in Togo falls within this framework for period of 6 months.
It is therefore with this in mind that this project aims to train young people to take an interest in public action, social and electoral action, which is a guarantee of good public governance in the country. This project also plans to carry out other activities in favor of young people to raise their awareness of their role in the management of public affairs.
It is therefore necessary to improve the country's public governance through citizen action and to make effective the responsible and conscious participation of the population in the management of public affairs
Problem
In Togo, the population in general and in particular young people are not interested in public action, social and electoral action and this is deplorable. According to Afro barometer figures (2013), a non-partisan survey and research project in Africa that measures citizens' attitudes towards democracy and governance, the economy, civil society and other issues, 26% of Togolese are very interested in public affairs, 22% are more or less interested and 30% are not interested at all; 3% of Togolese often meet politicians, 6% sometimes, and 90% never. This figure indicates the gap between the rulers and the governed. This is a barrier to the involvement of all and to sustainable development.
What are or what will be the primary products and/or services you will provide?
- Training and awareness raising
- Support for development projects selected by the government (experimentation phases with evaluation, possible corrective actions and implementation management)
- Youth exchange centre where they will discuss the problems they face, where they are informed of what is being done for their benefit, and where they can express their opinions.
- Setting up projects that bring about change
- Consulting
. Through these actions I wanted to go further and it is from there that I thought of creating a Centre that will work for the development of Africa. Thus, the African Centre for Participatory Governance was launched in May 2018, which led me to participate in session 13 YALI Dakar in Public Management.
At this time, every first Saturday of the month we go out with my club to make a public place clean. In September 2015 as Director of a Training Institution in the Northern region of the country where I also had to develop in this region an inclusive education project for children with disabilities whose objective is to act for the full participation of children with disabilities in the existing education system.
This vision led me to create in 2018 a youth club called YOUNG ALWAYS BETTER whose objective is to raise awareness among Togolese youth on civic engagement, citizenship, participation in work on governance, democracy and living together.
Being passionate about three things: Africa, population and development my goal is to create a new future with an inclusive and sustainable participatory vision.
