Tourism Competition 2019
Overcrowded destinations, polluted oceans, climate change, loss of biodiversity and cultural heritage… and the sad thing is: Tourism has its share. We only have this one planet. We need to do something! This is your chance, grab it!
This year, we’re excited to add “Responsible Tourism” to the global Entrepreneurship Competition to support innovative ideas and projects in sustainable travel.
Tourism is now one of the major players in international commerce, representing one of the main income sources for many developing countries. According to UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) data, international tourist arrivals are forecasted to reach 1.8 billion by 2030.

Leadership in Sustainable Tourism
The 1st annual Sustainable Tourism Competition is supported by the ITB Berlin, Travel Massive and Berlin Travel Festival under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Claudia C. Brözel.
Travelling is a core culture. It opens the eyes and the heart. I believe that we can find solutions for the main problems of our civilized world if we engage people to think off the beaten track. I am happy that we group together in a strong international network to start this initiative and offer of a worldwide platform to work together to sustain our future with sustainable tourism development.
Prof. Dr. Claudia C. Brözel
As the World’s leading Travel Trade Show® we are aware of tourism’s responsibilities to society as a whole and believe in a tourism development which attempts to sustain human dignity, security, and justice for all actors involved.
We want to actively engage in a dialogue with young entrepreneurs in their efforts to create economically, socially and ecologically responsible tourism products and thus we are proud to be a part of this great new project!
Rika Jean-Francois, CSR Commissioner ITB Berlin
At Berlin Travel Festival we want to inform and inspire about new & different ways of traveling and discovering places. In this regard it’s important to us to set a focus on alternative tourism products, innovative ideas and off the beaten path experiences to shape a sustainable development of the industry and consumer perspectives. Therefore, the sustainable tourism competition will be an interesting platform to exchange thoughts and ideas with forward-thinking entrepreneurs and ideally to integrate them into our concept.
Lydia Band, Berlin Travel Festival
Traveling is all about discovering beautiful places and people. Since these resources are finite, we have to work together as an industry to protect them for future generations. At Travel Massive, promoting and discussing sustainable travel is very much part of our mission to connect the future of travel.
