Voting Results Reliability Guaranteed – This Is How We Track
Published on: 01.09.2014
In our capacity as administator of an international competition online platform, we track, measure and file what occurs on our webpages – for two particular reasons:
1) We want to make it as easy and efficient as possible for our visitors and users to navigate our Competition website. In that respect we are eager to learn from their online behaviours. – Therefore we track all sort of information data and collect statistics, in order to improve and adapt our Competition website according to our users’ affinities and expectations.
2) We want to make sure that the voting results for each single nominated idea and project are accurate and fair, and are not biased and ambiguous by any means.
We guarantee fairly earned and accurate voting results by closely cooperating with reliable neutral services, which track and measure all kind of information data:
One renown and widely used service is Google Analytics and is provided by Google corporation. We do not track the voting traffic on our website and measure the received informations and generate detailed statistics solely ourselves, but this important service is operated and guaranteed by Google itself.
Google Analytics is a fantastic and reliable service, but it does not track ALL visitors of our Competition website- only about 97% of them. Some visitors block the tracking software by using an extension to their browser, in order to hide their online behaviour.
For that particular reason, we make the use of Logfiles. Logfiles track everything that happens on a server and stores that information in a database. It is a very “raw” information format and we use it to make sure, that we can closely watch and notice everything what occurs traffic wise on our servers.
We have 3 types of logfiles: Logdata for each website visitor, for each vote, and logfiles from a loadbalancer, that manages the server cluster we use for the platform.
Thus, we track and have multiple records of each single visitor on our webpage, and have the full picture of what occurs on each single idea and project account during the entire Competition voting and commenting period. We track and secure for instance the voting history of each individual nominated idea and project of our Competition. We also track how many online visits an idea or a project had per day throughout the entire voting period. In that respect, we can instantly identify voting frauds and other forms of manipulations which antagonize our Code of Conducts. And we act accordingly by pursuing a zero fraud tolerance policy.
Thanks to these reliable and very efficient services, we can guarantee that our People’s Choice Award winners and our finalists are those ideas and projects, which received the biggest amount of fairly earned public votes.
