Happy International Day of Friendship

July 30th marks the International Day of Friendship. This special day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Agency in 2011 and it aims at inspiring peace efforts and building bridges between different communities through the friendship between people from different cultures and backgrounds.
This idea takes more importance as the world is facing challenging times due to social, economic, and health crises that undermine peace among people.
The resolution on the International Day of Friendship gives special importance to the role of young people as change-makers, community activists, and future leaders.
The International Day of Friendship is an initiative that follows on the proposal made by UNESCO defining the Culture of Peace as a set of values, attitudes, and behaviors that reject violence and endeavor to prevent conflicts by addressing their root causes to solve problems.

Actions to Promote a Culture of Peace
foster a culture of peace through education;
promote sustainable economic and social development;
promote respect for all human rights;
ensure equality between women and men;
foster democratic participation;
advance understanding, tolerance, and solidarity;

promote international peace and security.

The Entrepreneurship Campus celebrates this day with all its members from every corner of the world, who during the years have shown their commitment to helping build a peaceful world through their ideas, projects, and commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Join the Campus, gain entrepreneurial knowledge and you can find a way to improve the lives of people in your community and beyond.  You can submit an idea or project until 30 September.

  12. I think based on the Happy Day of Friendship could be more emphasised and analyze with this my own contribution;

    Sharing the human spirit through friendship

    Our world faces many challenges, crises and forces of division — such as poverty, violence, and human rights abuses — among many others — that undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the world’s peoples.

    To confront those crises and challenges, their root causes must be addressed by promoting and defending a shared spirit of human solidarity that takes many forms — the simplest of which is friendship.

    Through friendship — by accumulating bonds of camaraderie and developing strong ties of trust — we can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good.
    Background

    The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

    The resolution places emphasis on involving young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.

    To mark the International Day of Friendship the UN encourages governments, international organizations and civil society groups to hold events, activities and initiatives that contribute to the efforts of the international community towards promoting a dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

    The International Day of Friendship is an initiative that follows on the proposal made by UNESCO defining the Culture of Peace as a set of values, attitudes and behaviours that reject violence and endeavour to prevent conflicts by addressing their root causes with a view to solving problems. It was then adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1997.

    Campus members through friendship we can build the world, can’t we?

  18. International day of friendship is quite necessary in this critical time, embedded with pains, tears and wounds all over the world. Friendship have never been needed than now where the globe is asking for solidarity from everyone as we fight this unseen battle of virus together. While most people and institutions still dont see this as important, one of the core values of the youth citizen entrepreneurship competition is based on creating friendship, network and collaborations by all members of this campus; past and present, from different backgrounds and cultures that is why there is a page for friends. I do not know how many of us campus members have taking time to give a thought to this part of the competition in view of the international friendship day. Hmmm, I think we all need to reflect on this day and try to see how we can make lasting and sustainable friendships on this platform. This is how we can keep the spirit of this competition alive.

    Happy international friendship day to all the YCEC team and campus members
